Ruling Energy "Cards"

If a card doesn't say "Basic" when mentioning Energy cards, would Energy cards like Multi Energy count? For example:

Since it doesn't say basic, does it still need a Basic Psychic Energy for its Body to activate? Or would Multi count as a Psychic Energy Card? I think rulings have leaned toward it needing to be basic, but I'm not sure.

Energy Card, I assume, just means if needs something that provides the actual type in question. So... yeah, rainbow-typed special energys work.

If it means only Basic Energy, it will say Basic Energy.

Energy means any card providing that type will work.

So is it because they don't care about consistency that they didn't say "Psychic Energy" instead of "Psychic Energy Card"? Thanks for the answer, though! Gives me plenty of ideas now....

In this particular case, "Psychic Energy" and "Psychic Energy Card" are semantically equal. The only time the difference matters is when asking you to discard Energy.

They're consistently inconsistent, at least.

So one last question on this same topic:

Evaporating Heat can discard Rainbow, Multi, etc. right? Firestarter lets you get a Fire Energy Card. I don't know if the discard is considered "in play," but "While in play, Multi Energy provides every type of energy but only one energy at a time." Does that mean Firestarter can bring it (or Rainbow) back from the discard? After all, it doesn't say "Basic" Fire Energy....

Yes, because they provide Water energy.

The discard pile is not in play. Sorry.

Unless it says basic then every energy card is accepted. You can use any type of card or cards to pay for the attack or attacks but if it says discard a basic fire energy for example then you have to use a fire basic energy card only. I hope that explains better for you.
