if I have a castaway, should I still have an energy search?

I personally don't think anyone should play energy search at all, so I would say yes. With castaway, Holon Lass, and Lady Outing (for multi-colored decks), energy search isn't needed at all.

Depends on your deck. If you run mostly or all basic energy, then probably not. Regular draw + Castaway will probably cover it. However if you have special energies that your deck really depends on then energy search can be good IMHO. You might be able to get by with regular draw (TV Reporter, Copycat, Steven's, etc.) in that case, but Lass would probably be less situational.
How much energy you run is also a factor. In a deck with 10 energy Lass is going to stink ... but in a deck with 20 it's a better play.

And a single word that will rob it of all worth whatsoever... there's a Basic before Energy.
If any one who has been playing Pokemon cards for a while and even considers using Energy Search, then they should be given a lesson in how to make a good deck. Seriously, Energy Search is a card that should never have been invented.
Energy search is really useless. It is simply not worth the space in a competitive deck.
Just play one more energy instead of it, or one really useful trainer card, or a tech.

I would say that Mr Stone's Project is better than Energy Search even though it takes up the Supporter space...
