Evolved Pokemon Cards-Are They Going Extinct?

I've taken a look at the deck lists on several different sites and noticed that majority of the decks now have almost nothing but Pokemon SP's. Granted I understand that SP's are just...well awesome and I use a bunch of them myself cause they are quick to set up. However being a player since base set came out, evolution cards were just fun and awesome to use as well, however they can take a bit longer to set up. Just wondering if there was anyone who relied on evolution cards rather then pokemon SP's and their opinion on which is better.

Interested in your opinions,

HG/SS will be bringing back Double Colorless Energy, so we'll see an increase in stage 1/2 decks.

Pokemon like Flygon RR, Machamp SF, Nidoqueen RR, Gengar SF... they're still being played right now, though.

Its mainly Stage 1 that is extinct nowadays, and I don't foresee a change in that in the nearby future sadly.

I don't think so. First of all, I'm playing Magmortar and it runs fine and in HG/SS we're getting Donphan and Ursaring so, I don't think Stage 1s are going extinct. Also I forgot Gyarados...

The game has changed over the years for sure. Way back in Base Set thru Team Rocket Raindance was a huge deck in many metagames. That deck took some time to build up. Back then, the metagame was slower and allowed the build up of each player's deck. Now the metagame seems very cut-throat and quick. It just seems that the game changes in waves, who knows with the upcoming sets, maybe we'll see a return to the slower yet very powerful build up.

I thought Ursaring is being cut out in our HGSS set...

By the time more Legends sets comes out, we could be seeing more evolved decks. Basically because of DCE, and new cards that could improve the amount of evolved decks in the meta.

Well, here are the playable Stage 1's as of now:

- Gyarados

Here are the playable Stage 1's as of HGSS:

- Gyarados
- Donphan

Still not a very impressive list.

I use 1 or 2 sp pokemon for a few of my deck's but I really just use stage 1 and 2 evo cards, but even with sp pokemon lvl X that would be considered stage 1 evo and the fact that 2-2 claydols are in 9 out of 10 decks is pretty much saying to me that stage 1 and stage 2 evo cards are here to stay, especially with the re-release of DCE.

playable stage 1 (none lvl x related)
2-2 claydol
2-2 weavile
2-2 bannette (shupput donk decks)
2-2 glaceon
etc

there's to many to list, but if you disagree whatev. cya

P.S. thas right scizor pwns. (lawl)

Unless Rare Candy is no longer Modified legal then I could see Stage 1 decks making a comeback even then there's also BTS but still Stage 2's will rule the day in the end though with SP's just a little above it.

^^RC will be legal, in the gift boxes, they have a rare candy in the Metagross one, so it will be reprinted. Candy is legal still!

Anyways, Gyrados is good now. Now, Donphan will be huge. Counters to Donphan will spike up, (Dewgong+Obamasnow), both of which are stages 1s. Now, techs will shoot up as well, like Scizor(MD, DCVE will be big, so 80 for 1 isn't that bad lol) so yeah. Stage 1s are coming back, but Stage 2s still DOMINATE the format. When the gift boxes are legal, some more stage 1s may jump into the format to kick some butt.

Yeah, i miss playing Candies and whatnot, but when i go to play evolutions i am like "Aha! i will energy gain" ohwait =d

Yeah a lot of people are forgetting decks such as Gliscor, Scizor/Cherrim, HGSS Donphan, HGSS Ursaring, HGSS Jumpluff Hippowdon, Banette, and Leafeon. I mean sure they're not a lot and they don't get much light but who cares. The point is a majority of Pokemon have stage 2 evolutions. Therefore, your not going to see a lot just stage 1 decks. I mean you see a lot of stage 1 techs? Do those not count?

The only pokemon that will become extinct will be sp pokemon when there rotated in the far future but stage 1 and 2s will b around forever most likely someone will always go rouge and build a cool deck with stage 1 or 2 pokemon its one thing that makes this game so diverse and fun

Yea, SP's were like a good idea and all but I absolutely hated the unbalance in game when PL released. But when they get rotated out it'll be nice.

Icompletely agree I dislike sp pokemon they bore me to death I annoyed my friend when we were at a tourny he was playing luxchomp and I wuld tell him what he was going to do during his turn before he did it there just broken and boring

Yea, SP deck are pretty much copy and paste. I'm excitied about the change in format though. But to strive back on topic. I'd like to point out that there are like 4-5 really SP decks that people play (with minor variations of course) and when the new HGSS set coming out there are a lot of new stage 1 pokemon that are going to deffianlly change game play and how people build their decks.

Definatly I'm conforming lol building a great donphan deck with 1 sw donphan and nidoqueen deck that's stage 1 and 2 prob throw in a xploud tek for the dbl weakness imo dce makes a lot of older stage 1s and 2s playable I look forward to the change and hopefully the setback to the sp usage at tournaments extinct no they were just a little dormant for a while and now that hgss is apon us it shuld go back to normal with a few sp decks still running like dialga and palkia as well as the luxray varients that will prob gain even more pop with Pokémon reversal coming out
