Ruling Evolving Abra!!!

Since there is NO current format Kadabra, when Abra is on your bench, can you just evolve it into Alakazam the next turn, or do you HAVE to have a Rare candy to do so? I am not TRYING to ask a dumb question, just a little confused on what to do exactly!!!

Rare Candy. And the MT Abra has an attack that lets you evolve into Alakazam. Read it.
 
Alakazam says "Evolves from Kadabra", not Abra. So you can't play it on Abra without another effect like Rare Candy.

The fact that they have sadly declined to print a new Kadabra doesn't change the game rules.
