Not sure if this has been asked before if it has i apologize in advanced i did a quick search but not luck, anyways is there a way to spot a fake booster pack without opening them? Im talking about the first three with charizard blastoise and venusaur. Iooked on ebay and i noticed there different ones that are supposed to be the same.. For example the red "trading card game" stamp.. Some extend to the N of the pokemon logo and some only to the O.. I figured if someone would have an idea i can find them here.

The different Base set packs you are talking about are not fakes. They are simply just different packs designs.

I have four all together, two are venusaur and one looks different is there a way of knowing which base set is which if thats the case, i was under the impression that the only two different pack designs were the shadowless and shadowed, aside from the ones with 1st editions of course

Avoid buying loose packs online. They are very likely weighted and don't contain any holos.

Most times.

I would only buy loose packs for booster or blister collections.

1st edition ones have the 1st edition stamp.
Shadowless ones have the red box that says "Trading Card Game" at the bottom with a few little cards.
Unlimited have the red box underneath the big yellow Pokemon at the top.
4th Print (1999-2000) say 1999-2000 in the copyright info on the back of the pack.

Blisters are much harder to weigh, so one is safe 99% of the time buying blisters online.

PokéBeach had/has one member who states otherwise.

I think I know who...

But, I saw photos of base set packs with darker fonts and lighter fonts.

Yeah, the two different venusaur packs i have have to different fonts and different shades and like i said one "trading card game" stamp extends to the N in pokemon the other only to the O.. I was thinking one might be fake.. Both are blisters btw.

There are two versions of the unlimited packs (asides from the 4th print run). These packs have 2 differences: box size and color amount. So, there is a pack with a long box and one with a shorter box, and a pack with more dense colors, and one with lighter colors. There is no difference in the cards inside however.

Can you post pictures or scans?

Here are some Charizard packs I had a while ago

I opened them and they contain normal unlimited cards.

I was told that the two packs came from different print runs.

Hey guys,

sorry that I have to reactivate this old topic, but I have pretty much the same question. I bought some German boosters 1st edition and the printing is kind of unclean. Is this a hint that these are fake or is this totally okay for packs printed back in 1999?

Thank you and have a great day!
