Fakemon Competition #1: Voting!

I have to go with these people although many others were fantastic entries!
1. Scampy - He just had the best overall defensive design and yet gave a perfect level up stage show. It was in my opinion the perfect entry in this competition.
2. Medforcer - I was awaiting a mushroom entry to come in as it was my idea I just could not put it on paper. I was asstounded by this and I have to say it was a great entry, ignoring my personal preference this was overall the best entry after Scampy's.
3. Phazon-764 - This entry just stuck out to me. I can clearly see the evolution line out of it and it also has a perfect display of defense and darkness at the same time. Then at the same time it gives me an impression of a grass type. It's a perfect 3rd place finish for this one.
Everyone else had great entries and I do have to say, a ton of the entries lacked that defensive show case, or did not appear dark enough to be a dark type.
Now onto the other entries,
4. Xous - This is just an amazing entry. The reasoning for not reaching the top 3 places was due to it's design it just doesn't scream "Pick me". It seems to be a good design it's just I can't see it being a starter.
5. GoRockQuadsGiratina - This entry just was a great entry. The only thing I saw was it didn't appear defensive. A T-Rex based Pokemon just doesn't seem like a starter type which is a problem I saw in many entries but this one was well though out and it had a great design.
6. Mrs. Aforcer - All I have to say is, it doesn't look defensive. Otherwise it would have made the top 3, it just lacked that defensive look.
7. Shining Raikou - Only 2 things kept this entry down so low, It lacked a defensive appearance. Then it also looks way to similar to Luxio and Luxray in the last two evos.
8. The Assassin - Great entry. My only problem was it doesn't stick out, it doesn't look like a starter to be honest though.
9. llucario - This is way to cute of an entry. It does not look to dark though, and it lacks that defensive appearence. The reason I say it is not dark is because it doesn't scream "I'm dark". Then in the last picture the sun and the dark type. o.o
10. safariblade - I love it. It just doesn't appear quite like what I saw your design being. It doesn't appear "woodish" and it has the pixel look which kinda ruins it. =(
11. Staraptor - Do bad it didn't stick to the sheep/ram idea. It went Sheep-Ram- and then a Yak. The Yak kinda ruins the line.
12. LuckyLuigi7 - Well I really like the first design, but after that it all went down hill in quality. One thing you should work on is the 3D design.
13. Veritas - An elephant just doesn't sound like a grass starter to me. They were drawn to a good quality it's just an elephant appeared twice, and an elephant does not sound like a starter to me for any type.
14. DiamondMaster - Ah, your entry was good. Once again it was an elephant and it just does not seem like a starter as I previously said. It also looks sloppy the way you put them all together like that, separate would have been better.
15. minipika12 - I liked where you went with the ones with no shadow, but once that shadow was there it ruined it. Your design was also not well planned.
16. No78 - Not to be mean to you, but the final evo is very poorly drawn and the peacock feathers look cluttered, try spacing them more. The first evo was a bird, then the second was a cassowary which was already drawn way before you entered. Next time maybe try and make them look neater, and make sure it is not copying in a way to other already entered pieces.
Great overall contest and I look forward to the next one.

1. Scampy - Loved the designs to start with and then you realeased the Final Evo. I had the exact same idea in mind if I was to end up entering, but mine was based on a sycamore seed.

This was a very hard decision. I really mean it when I say that all the entries were awesome. Good luck to everyone who entered. =]

After much typing, Pokemaniac's opinionated opinions!
(DISCLAIMER- take my critisisms as help, not bashing. I don't critique to hurt you(well not primarily anyways))
These are my thoughts. Yes I realise it’s a bit hypocritical for me to be saying bad things about other’s drawing talents when I can’t draw outside of spriting. But when it comes to art, I at least know what I think is good, even if I can’t make it.
Diamond Master- Your art isn’t perfect, but that’s not what I’ll be voting for. The design is a bit been there done that with both the fact it’s an elephant and the fact it’s ugly(or ferocious, choose your own word =P). Starter Pokemon are like labels for the franchise and I can tell you that this thing just isn’t cute enough for that. I do like the changes as it evolves.
LuckyLuigi- Your art isn’t too great once again, the heads all have a very generic feel to them and the legs aren’t at all logical, but once again, not what I’m rating on. The first form is just too ugly for me. The whole line seems a bit “Small, big, bigger” in design.
Xous- Your art is one of the major reasons I’m not going for pretty. Obviously I like the style, and for most part the designs. The red orb on the second form however irks me. Also, again, the first form is just not the sort of thing I can see on my Pokemon merchandise. It lacks cute. The evolved forms can be less cute ( Mudkip -> Swampert x_x) but the basic is meant to be a sweet, innocent baby. Besides that, it hasn’t even picked up the dark type yet.
Veritas- Your actual art isn’t too bad, although it all looks flat(Not that I could do any better =P). As for the design, it’s another case of small, bigger, biggest. Except for colour and the size of the flower on the back, all that happens when this guy evolves is he gets bigger. Another elephant sort of makes me think elephants are a very default thought when bulky is said, but oh well.
Staraptor- The first form’s cute, which is good. They aren’t just bigger forms of each other, which is also nice. But they’re very plain. I just don’t find them interesting. They’re just goat-looking animals and the final form gets leaves on its back. Goats were a nice idea but these really aren’t anything special. =/
Shining Raikou- The first form’s adorable! They’re all very nice. Another set of cats however seems very disappointing. As has been said, they look a bit like Shinx and his evolutions. They don’t seem particularly bulky, or dark for that matter. Overall a good job but perhaps this isn’t the right round for them. Also, the first form evolves with a Dusk stone which just doesn’t work for a Starter Pokemon. Don’t worry, that won’t effect my decision. =P
scampy-I hate your art style and think you should quit I love your artwork. The starter’s cute, although the arms are a bit meh, (especially since seeds don’t have leaves =P) but that problem sorts itself out on the later forms. My only problem is – you guessed it – It doesn’t look dark type! And its description isn’t particularly either. Otherwise, good job.
GoRockQuadsGiratina- I LOVE the first form, although I don’t know if I’d want to choose an eggshell Pokemon as my Starter. The middle form’s a bit eh but it has good emotion. The final form looks kinder than your average T-Rex, so probably not a dark type, and definitely not too bulky. I LOVE the first form though. Did I mention that? =P The description for the middle form goes against the nature of Grass types and reptiles. x_x
safariblade- The designs are a bit bland and pretty badly shaded. The whole concept is just not starter material, and is really overpowered. You ALWAYS get AT LEAST 1 knock out. It can be Sandstormed to death, but it can’t be Poisoned/Burned. It’s ludicrous defences combined with its attacks equal to its opponents means it will almost always win. (After all, Sweepers can’t OHKO and generally have high enough attack to kill themselves, walls can’t use statuses so it’s probably your game) Should it die, it STILL takes down the opponent with it! 0 base stats are a confusing mess. Besides, it’s a Starter Pokemon. Who wants to play through an entire game with just your opponent’s stats with more defense? It would certainly take something (a big thing) away from your playing experience.
And then it would go and overpower your game’s main Uber.
Mrs.Aforcer- I love the whole line. Cute basic, different designs, good colouring and just the right amount of resemblance. They’re great! I would’ve however, liked a bit more bulk on the last form. Good job!
Minipika12- These are all too simple. They’re just very hexagonal rocks with vines and the third one levitates. They’re not very inspiring. They’re not at all dark – they seem more, say, rock to me. =/ Too basic and doesn’t meet the criteria. They’re rocks!
No78- They look nice. I like all the forms and see no major flaws in them. But they don’t look dark, they’re birds, they look flying(although Empoleon wasn’t flying this still doesn’t look dark.) Your last form isn’t too bulky either. Other than that, great job, I love them! This just isn’t their time to shine. =(
The Assassin- I was looking through them. The first one, I thought was nice, albeit a bit bug-like. The second one I didn’t care for. Then I opened the third one and I immediately thought “is that Torterra?!?!” They look dark, the final form could use a bit more bulk but I’m disappointed with the Torterra resemblance. =/
Phazon-764- Your Sugimori-style’s nice. (Although they’re very wobbly and a bit disproportioned) Your designs show an interesting evolution and they don’t look too similar, but... to be perfectly honest, there’s something I just don’t like about it. I can’t tell you what it is, so other than that, a good effort.
Medaforcer- Wow. Like, wow. For those of you who missed it, I’m going to post this image again.
Now, try and tell me that it’s overwhelming level of cute is not equal to at least 6 kittens. ESPECIALLY considering it later evolves into this –
Lost its cute? Definitely. Lost its charm? Definitely not! If you can’t tell I love them all. If these were real Pokemon, Shuckle would have to make room for Mushcap. That fungi’s one fun guy! Good job. =P
