like they are just terrible

although i guess mgk didn't do THAT bad, but he really just is the same beat and same topic as every other rapper nowadays

LOL

Lil Wayne is legitimately one of the greatest lyricists of all time, and the common criticisms of unintelligence or lack of depth are ridiculous. Granted, the man raps a lot about money and drugs, but when he does otherwise he is ridiculed ("How to Love?"). He pumps out some immensely clever lines, most of which are much less shallow than people give him credit for.

This. I like Lil' Wanye alright, his lyrics are genius, but I honestly don't feel like a lot of it is coming from the heart. Old rap seems to be more genuine in my opinion.

Here are some of my favorite songs, these are some of the first things that came to mind. This is all rap, so if you youtube any of these songs, there will be foul language and the works.

Machine Gun Funk (The Notorious B.I.G)
All Eyez on Me (2pac)
Amerikas Most Wanted (2pac featuring Snoop Dogg)
Mary (Wax, 6-dimension has probably already linked to a bunch of his stuff)
New Crack (Wax)
Air Timpani (Wax)
One More Chance (Biggie again, the one off of Ready to Die, not Life after Death)
Microphone Murderer (Biggie again, I think this one is off of his demo tape)

Ah, basically everything Biggie has ever done. I'm rarely not listening to Ready to Die. Scrublife (Wax) is another album that I'd strongly recommend listening to, you can download it for free too.

I also like a lot of Bluegrass / Country stuff. Johnny Cash is the best. I also like Split-lip Rayfield, Yonder Mountain String Band, and The Gourds.
 
I don't really have a FAVORITE song, but I like "Glad You Came" by The Wanted. It's a good song. Listen to it. Now. Also, listen to the Minecraft remix of it, "I'll Make Some Cake"

I don't necessarily listen to all these bands (only The Killers and MCS off of this list sometimes) These are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.
 
I'm with 6-Dimension and VY on this, #hibhawb master race. But, my favorite songs are not rap. I do really really really love Party and Bull###t by Biggie, but it's not my favorite.
My two favorites have to be The Purple Bottle by Animal Collective and Engine by Neutral Milk Hotel.
My follow ups would have to be:
- Boards Of Canada's Remix of Broken Drum by Beck
- Do The Astral Plane by Flying Lotus
- Red by WAX, NSFW okay guys
I would recommend In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel, Scrublife Mixtape by WAX, Demon Days by Gorillaz, and Strawberry Jam by Animal Collective.

I'm a very pop-oriented person in both music choices and sound, so it's no surprise most of my iPod is filled with P!nk, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, and the like. Lately, I've been addicted to "Feel This Moment" by Pitbull ft Christina Aguilera, but I'll always have a tied-top love for "Titanium" by David Guetta ft Sia and "Wide Awake" by Ms. Katy Perry :)
 
About anything by Daft Punk. I like Aerodynamic the best though (so far, not sure about the 4th album though)
