Blog Fighting Fire with Fairies: Three Steam Siege Decks for the 2017 Season

Machamp the Champion disagreed with you, saying that he felt the article was a bit on the short side.
For a magazine-esque setting, this is definitely short, but this is the internet, so the length is fine. A bit more elaboration on Volcanion could be nice, but that deck has been talked about enough already.

I've been trying out the Xerneas deck fro BREAKthrough, but the biggest problem I've had is drawing support. I've tried to add certain cards to try to improve the deck, but it hasn't really helped. Any suggestions?

You can try Unown, but that's limited and would only be recommended if you were running Vespiquen with it. What have you been using?

maybe more teirnos and sycamores. Add the fullart for an extra shine. Maybe judge, or octillary with abyssal hand.

I've been using the deck list that was posted and for a while a got amazing turn 1 hands, but then I started to struggle to get the Pokemon and energy that I needed. I've tried adding Level Ball and Super Rod to add some consistency, but I still had issues.

Love the Avalugg in the honorable mentions, I totally forgot about that guy! On a serious note though this may be Gardevoir's year to shine.

The volcanion list has 37 trainers instead of 38. There is an open spot therefore.

I have pored over this list over and over again and I can't think of what the last card could be. Add whatever you like.

It might be. I think fairies will do well in the early season because no one is gonna play Metal in the beginning. They're all gonna be busy trying to stop Ray from steamrolling them.

I added in one Energy Reset to the deck. So far, it's been a fairly useful addition to fuel Steam Up and/or card draw from Scorched Earth. If you have your baby Volcanion(s) or alternate attackers set up and you're just pulling energies from discard with Power Heater with no real useful place to put them, it's nice to be able to scoop them all up and reuse them.

I'm just coming back to the game after about a 15 year break, so I may be wrong about some rulings and the above is assuming I'm playing Energy Reset correctly and "your Pokemon" means all Pokemon both active and benched. If not, then forget all that because it's not quite as useful as I thought.

Yeah, you're playing it right.

Energy Reset is kind of interesting. Ideally you shouldn't need it but it's not that bad an addition.

Has anyone else tried any other decks for PRC-on?

I've played only a couple different tweaked versions of Volcanion EX so far, but I'm piecing together a M Mewtwo EX deck that I hope to have finished and at least lightly tested in the next week or so.

Sounds good. What kind of Energy acceleration are you planning on using? I'm really digging Clawitzer right now but I haven't had a chance to test it.

Clauncher and Clawitzer are pretty much the only things Steam Siege I'm putting in, so I guess it isn't REALLY a Steam Siege deck. I have a couple different versions in mind that I'd like to test. One with Clawitzer and one without. Without the Clawitzer, I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to make it fast enough at this point.

Xerneas has the fastest acceleration outside of Clawitzer. Maybe use both?

That actually may not be a bad idea. My first thought was to focus the deck almost entirely around getting Shrine of Memories out and using Damage Change with the mega. In that case, I'm not sure how well fairy energy fits. But now that you've mentioned Xerneas, I think it may be possible to build a deck around Psychic Infinity with it and Clawitzer.

In an ideal situation, you could have an M Mewtwo ready to swing for 160 on turn two, not counting your opponent's energies. Depending on how lucky you get and how long it takes your opponent to knock out a starting Xerneas, it's conceivable that you could be swinging for 250 + opponent's energies by turn 3. It would be a fairly risky strategy, but that sounds like something that would be incredibly fun to pull off.
