First Generation cards

Hello Everyone I am new to the forums and in need of some advice. I collect all first generation cards and I am currently trying to complete my promo collection, however I can't decide which promos I should be collecting. I currently have the first 24 of the numbered Wizard Black Star promos but is that where I should stop? I know that the rest of the Black Star promos where released after the release of the second gen cards but does that make them second gen? Also if anyone could provide a list of any error cards(not just promo error cards) and other promos that fall into the first gen category then I would be very grateful. Thank you all in advance :) Sorry I should have also said I only collect english cards at this time.

Wizards black star promo Marril was the 1st second generation card printed, you might want to go to 28 there.
You planning on collecting all 1st edition and unlimited versions of everything from Base to Gym Challenge too?

Already have all the first gen first editions still have to get the shadowless and unlimited versions. need to get a complete error and promo list together because I'll buy those before I buy the unlimiteds. I already have like 7 of the gold stamp "W" cards aswell

Now, by first generation do you mean anything created by Wizards between Base Set and Gym Challenge or do you mean anything that is a first generation Pokemon?

Assuming you mean stuff Base through Challenge the sets are pretty obvious, especially if you're excluding Japanese cards.

Promo wise, I'd say you should get the following:
1-24 (I see that is covered, just mentioning for completion)
25-28 (Flying Pikachu, Snap Pikachu, what I call forest Pikachu and Surfing Pikachu).
40 (alternate art Pokemon Center)
43-49 (Machamp, Magmar, Scyther, Electabuzz, Mew Lilypad, Articuno, Snorlax).
51 (Rapidash).
Maybe Ancient Mew as well...

Your on your own for error cards, I don't know any of these except for the infamous pre release Raichu.

Yer I'm only collecting Base through Challenge. I already have thousands of dollars set aside in case a pre release Raichu surfaces. I think I might go until promo 28 sounds like a good idea. Plus I want to buy mint misc. promo cards i.e. E3 pikachu variants. If anyone could tell me what a complete mint/near mint 1st edition base set is worth I'd like to know as I think I was really ripped off.

For what it is worth I'd go after promos 43-49. They are basically english versions of the vending machine cards which would be considered first gen only stuff. Your call though.

To be quite honest, I'd go the whole hog as it were and collect them all! xD
It'd be nice to have a completed set rather than just half because the rest are 2nd gen...
