Hello all,

Time for a RMT, with my first Serious VGC attempt.

After noticing my previous Hail team was a total faliure (Mega Abomasnow just can't keep up)

Mega Tyranitar

Ability: Sandstream

Brave Nature @ Tyranitarite (kinda makes sense for a Mega but listing the item helps).

252 HP / 112 Def / 28 Atk / 116 SpDef

Crunch
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Protect

So. Mega Tyranitar. I figured out that this may be one of the better Megas with some testing. So with that in mind, I set up a somewhat basic moveset for Tyranitar that can counter even some of today's meta along with last.

I've built a bulky Tyranitar to take several hits with somewhat minimal investment in both Defensive stats. This allows me to tank Talonflame and return his hit with minimal damage taken, as I resist both of it's STAB's

As for the moveset. Crunch and Rock Slide are for STAB, and Rock Slide is also for spread damage. Earthquake for spread and type coverage. Protect is a staple in the VGC. Therefore that is why it is there.

Gliscor

Ability: Poison Heal

Impish Nature @ Toxic Orb

208 HP / 20 Atk / 136 Def / 4 SpD / 140 Spe

Earthquake
Rock Slide / Ice Fang
Toxic / Knock Off
Protect

Trusted and true. Gliscor finds it's niche in the new VGC. Without the Genies, Gliscor takes its place not only as a GREAT Sandstorm abuser, but also an amazing Physical Tank. Gliscor covers up most of Tyranitars weaknesses (bar Water). Along with a useful Fighting, and Bug resistance, it is also neutral to Fairy. Tyranitars new Weakness. It is also immune to Electric and Ground.

As a great EQ User to gain that STAB, I am confused as to really run on this set. Other than EQ and Protect, the other two slots are kind of interchangeable.

I do already have Rock Slide, but with Talonflame running amok I am worried that only having one Rock Slide user isn't enough. Ice Fang would provide great coverage for Gliscor, being able to deal with Dragons and such. Knock Off got a buff this Gen. So it also has its uses along with ToxiStall. Some input would be appreciated here.

Toxicroak

Ability: Poison Touch

Adamant Nature @ Black Sludge

252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 Speed

Fake Out
Drain Punch
Sucker Punch
Protect

With those pesky Fairies running around. I thought of Toxicroak for a useful Fake Out user to allow my other Pokemon to set up on them. Fake Out also allows me to stop Mega Kanga for a turn, making sure that nothing happens to my Squad before I get a chance to attack

Having great recovery and the potential chance to poison when I make contact, I thought of this Bulky set up to stop other Priority Users. Aegislash is one of those users. I also outspeed him along with Gengar (Sucker Punch Priority). Protect because of it being a staple. Drain Punch and Black Sludge for recovery. Sucker Punch and Fake out as Priority.

Rotom-W

Ability: Levitate

Modest Nature @ Assault Vest

252 SpAtk / 216 HP / 40 Spe

Hydro Pump
Thunderbolt
Volt Switch
Dark Pulse

Now. This is an item I really like. This is also the Pokemon I decided to test it on. With a 107 / 107 | Def / SpDef value, the Assault Vest assists the potential of investing in 4 stats, rather than just two or three. This creates a different aspect to BulkyTom. While using the Modest nature, not only can I hit hard, I can also sponge hits.

Having Volt Switch also allows me to get out quick including my small Speed investment. Dark Pulse is for Aegislash, who's hits I can take quite well. Hydro Pump and Thunderbolt are for STAB

Reuniclus @ Life Orb

Quiet Nature

Ability: Magic Guard

252 SpAtk / 192 HP / 64 Def

Trick Room
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

The Trick Room routine. A very common theme in the VGC. With no Cresselia around, Reuniclus is what seems to me to be the premier user, along with Gothitelle.

It was a tough choice between the two. Between the SpDef of Gothitelle, and the Speed of Reuniclus was really the two factors that made my decision hard. While Gothitelle is faster, Reuniclus has a better Special Attack stat, and a much better chance of outspeeding in Trick Room.

My set up is Bulk mixed with Power to amplify that massive SpAtk stat. The moveset is more for type Coverage, while also messing up a Mega Gengar sweep. The team also isn't reliant on TR as you can see. Its just a Bulky Powerhouse styled team. Throw in some Weather damage and we have a residual effect of constant damage while also using TR.

All the moves aside from TR, are for STAB and type coverage purposes. Reuniclus has a great movepool with a STAB Psychic to run over Gengar.

escavalier.gif

Escavalier

Adamant Nature @ Sitrus Berry

Ability: Shell Armor

252 Atk / 128 Def / 128 SpDef

Swords Dance
Mega Horn
Iron Head
Protect

My Iron Horse (pun intended... you know.. Lancing.. on a horse... I'll stop while I'm ahead).

Bug/Steel is truly one of the best typings in the game for Defense. Scizor is still in the metagame for a reason. However, my allegiance is with Escavalier. With a massive 205 (LVL 50) Attack stat when at full power (Atk + Nature), Escavalier is truly a force to be reckoned with. The only weakness this type has is to Fire, which most of my team already covers.

The choice in Swords Dance is merely when I can steal a turn off a switch and set it up. After that his attack is sky high and nearly kills all the Fairies (bar Klefki and Mega Mawile). If I get the Swords Dance, its buh bye to anything that doesn't resist it's STAB moves, Mega Horn and Iron Head. The Sitrus Berry choice was interesting, and it was between it, an Occa Berry, Life Orb or a Choice Band. The latter I hoped to avoid using.

The Occa Berry still really doesn't save me from Talonflame. So that choice was out the window the moment it came in. The Choice Band was a tempting idea, but I figured being Choiced into a move wasn't safe provided a switch in that resists me comes into the fight. The Life Orb was the original item I wanted to use, but the Life Orb on Reuniclus makes much more sense.

This is my first serious attempt. Grass/Ice is NOT a great combination in practice for the VGC. Please RMT :)

RE: First serious VGC attempt (Hail) [Needs assistance]

I'm not that familiar with VGC but EQ will also hit your own pokemon i believe. Three of you Pokes have it and only one wont take damage from it(Rotom with Levitate).

RE: First serious VGC attempt (Hail) [Needs assistance]

Well this is part of the process. I need ideas for the last two slots.

I had thought about using Gengar with the following set

Gengar @ Black Sludge

Timid Nature / Levitate

252 SpAtk / 252 Spe / 4 HP

Substitute
Disable
Shadow Ball
Sludge Bomb

However, I do not know what else I could use.

RE: First serious VGC attempt (Hail) [Needs assistance]

Go for a Reuniclus

Reuniclus @ Life orb
Magic Guard
Iv: ???
Ev: ???
-Psychic
-Disable
-Focus Blast
-Protect/Detect/Double Team
Not only does Magic Guard stop Reuniclus from being damaged by the Hail, but if I'm correct, Life Orb ALSO doesn't hurt it! The set I gave him is quite good, Focus Blast is for anything Psychic can't hit (e.g, Dark types). Disable is for fighting, fire and ground types that could mess up your team. And protect is for obvious reasons, but double team could also be smart!

This team is pretty well rounded as it can cover it's weakness pretty well. The only problem I see is Dragons. Defensively you can tank there hit but you don"t have an Ice type move that hits most of the common dragons(Dragonite, Salamance, and Garchomp) 4x super effective. I would use the Ice Fang over the rock slide. Hope I've helped.

Idea Alert!!!!

Skarmory @ Flying Gem/Sitris Berry/Leftovers <---- You Choose
Impish Nature
Ability: Sturdy
IV`s: HP / Atk / Def / Sp.Def / Speed
EV`s: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Def / 128 Sp.Def
- Brave Bird <--- Egg Move
- Whirlwind <--- Egg Move
- Spikes
- Steel Wing/Air Slash

This is going to be your best bet for adding hazards to the field and blowing away hazards on your side of the field. With the flying moves you can decimate grass/fire and fighting types that can hurt your team; also Air Slash has a high rate of making your opponent flinch so that helps. Skarmory itself has a high Attack, Defense and Speed output and with the impish nature you add Sp.Defense to the mix and bam there is a Tank. Finally Fairies seem to be your biggest issue with 2 of your pokemon if the attacks hit having another Steel type will help block those Fairies such as Togekiss and Sylveon and they don't take a lot of damage from Fairies and many other attack types.
