Website Feedback
From now on, all news about the forums will go here. When we add staff members, new features, or something else, you will know about it via the Portal. We hope to deliver updates on the forums quicker via this method, and to inform you all more about changes than we have in the past. Website Feedback has been changed so that all threads are a direct line to the staff. Only you and the staff will see your thread there from now on. We hope that by implementing this method that more members will speak up and be open about their ideas and changes they want to see in the forums and website.

Chat Updates
The rules for the pb chat have been updated as well. Please review them in the Chat FAQ section of the Rules & Info thread. This goes for both members and staff members. We now have guidelines on what you should be doing and shouldn't be doing if you are chat staff.

Pairings Generator
Have you ever wanted to start up a tournament, but weren't sure about being able to make pairings and being fair in awarding byes? We now have just the tool for you. This bracket maker will do the hard work of making pairings and awarding a random bye if one is necessary. It has been coded by me by request since the main one we use for Video Game Tournaments no longer exists.

To use it, all you need to do is put one name on each line. Do not put a blank line at the end or it can mess up pairings. Once all player names are entered click the button to generate your pairings. Before it does the pairings it will remove duplicate entries which can be helpful when you are pairing up a large list of players. Simply copy the pairings generated into a thread you make.

The bracket maker will eventually have more features as I get them to work. I've been trying to build an option for assigning as many byes as necessary in round 1 to never have a bye the rest of the tournament, but so far it is still screwing up.

The Name Change Request thread and Simple Questions threads were moved to Real World as stickies.

13:29 * DNA is perusing over new chat rules
13:31 <DNA> for the most part, this pleases me
13:32 <Chariblaze> What about the least part?
13:32 <DNA> OHOHOHOHOHO.
13:32 <DNA> that's what I'm about to bring up

mostly just logistics and stuff like that.

9. Absolutely no tricking people into quitting or abusing the ghost command. If you cause another person to quit, you will receive a ban.
I'd rephrase the start of that second sentence to "If you trick another person into quitting...", because sometimes there have been anons who log on using Java and try to take someone else's username, and thus ghosting is sometimes appropriate.

I'd also add something about certain nicks, such as those degrading another member (I've seen someone use the nick "isaacisstupid" on more than one occasion in the past), are also forbidden.

"NightBeach" hours are from 9 PM PST / 12 AM EST to 3 AM PST / 6 AM EST.
Nightbeach actually officially starts at 8 PM PST (11 PM EST), not 9.

We talked that over and PMJ and I felt that was too early for west coast.

I feel your concern over nicknames is covered by rules four and thirteen.
Rule 4 said:
4.Do not harass chat users. No trolling, no flaming, no unnecessary drama. Racism or hatred toward a group is strictly prohibited. If you have a problem with a person try and talk it out with them.

Rule 13 said:
13.Overall, treat others with respect and you will be respected. Use common sense and act like a decent human being.

The funny bit is that most of Beach lives in the East Coast, so if anything, wouldn't midnight EST be too late for you people out east? (I honestly am impartial either way, and I'll go with either.)

oh, right, #13 does cover that

Can someone explain the logic for hiding the website feedback area? Only a vocal minority will post threads in that area, so the threads that you guys see is only a very small representation of the whole. If you leave it open for discussion, you get to see how more people feel about the change. PB is for the people afterall...

Hiding the forum means less flaming, less drama, and better forum morale since new members won't come here and see a million complaint threads. It also lets the less vocal majority (sometimes feels like minority) feel more open to voice their opinions since it will be in private. The hope is that people will be more comfortable submitting feedback if they can do it in private.

If something is a really big issue, we'll probably get multiple threads about it.

So moderate the flaming/drama :/ Cycle it down to the bottom so that newer members don't see it. Many people don't realize there is an issue until they see someone else lead the charge. You guys are really losing a lot by doing this. The quiet minority will feel more open to voice their opinions if they see someone lead the charge. Moreover, they can still PM... which is private. You guys are only taking away our powers as members. We could privately give suggestions... and I know people did PM suggestions. All you're doing is taking away a proper way to measure public opinion.

This is true, actually. Right now, the Suggestion Box (which I think the name should be changed to) looks completely empty to everybody else - we can't see a thing. That makes it look like nothing's going on.

And yeah, some people will usually only feel comfortable saying something if someone else has gone before. Not everyone is capable of putting their foot forward like that; it takes a lot of guts.

And the new members aren't going to see a bunch of complaints. They would see a bunch of suggestions. Nobody's going to be flaming or complaining, and if they are, their suggestions probably won't be taken seriously anyway...

I'm very pleased with the new chat rules.

Very displeased with the new Website Feedback. If someone wants to speak up and get their ideas to the mods, PM one, and the mods should discuss things with you. There's no need for a private forum to chat with mods. One of the most important aspects of Website Feedback was the ability for members to discuss things together. Cutting off communication among users is only hurting a very young, growing community.

PMing, VMing, and PB Chat are not valid alternatives for community discussion.

The changes are nice. I like that the staff is now receptive to the members' input as to who to possibly consider promoting to the Staff.

Also, I feel a bit stupid for asking this, having been around so long, but why is Satoshi-Kun a hop here?

I know it used to be because of the stats thing, but that hasn't been around for years. Now? I have absolutely no idea.

By the way, just before anyone asks who Calibre is...Calibre is the main network administrator for the server which hosts Pokebeach's chat (SyntaxNode).

Yeah, Calibre, Manizach, DragonMaster, etc. are server staff.

I knew he did stats at one point, and I remember asking him about it once, and he rather didnt reply or said that he couldnt do it now.

Satoshi remains as a part of an agreement with WPM. I am not sure of the specifics but we were given specific orders to keep him on the access list. I can't really say any more than that.

If he's not active anymore you can probably demote him.
I'm on almost every day and I have not seen Satoshi say or do a single thing in months...
