An increasing number of fan-made pokemon game projects have appeared on pokebeach. However a very(And I mean very) small ammount of them even have a chance of being made into a game. This is because they havn't given any thought over it.Just because it says it will be a pokemon game dosn't mean it will be a pokemon game at all.I feel this is going to be a problem, so I may make a tutorial but only if we actually need one. Who agree's with me here? Thanks.

Part 1-The ESSENTIALS
Making a Fan-game Is harder than you think. It is extremely complex, and will take alot of your time, patience and effort. These are just the Must haves:
Most of the time, there is new pokemon, however this is not needed if you are doing a remake(explained later)
A new Region, again, this dosn't matter if you are doing a remake.
A new storyline and plot.
New sprites(Yes, I mean scratch sprites, not edits, scratches)
At least some Idea of what your doing( A game program, etc)
A team.You can't make a game on your own.
Patience.A game takes at least 3 years to finally develop.
Part 2-Original Ideas
Surely if a pokemon game takes this long to make, We'll have high expectations. A good idea is to think of an original plot. Many people will decide to do a deeper storyline than other games, or find new animals for pokemon. However many pokemon are not based on animals. A new Game means new designs, and it is possible to make thousands of cool and original pokemon without running out of ideas. This has been partly proved by #299-Nosepass. This pokemon is based on a NOSE. However it proves very original and a great design. If you are short on imagination, Start from a real life animal, Add features to show its element(Bushes on grass pokemon, flames on fire pokemon etc), and then Change the anatomy (Hippopotus is clearly a hippo, but very unrealistic and small), and Then give it a pokemon style of drawing, and your done! Humanoids are also a good idea(Hariyama, Machamp). If you are basing a pokemon on an animal, a helpful tip is to try not to make it to much like one( You can tell buneary is a rabbit but it looks very different from one).
Part 3- Pokemon evolutions
A Pokemon game isn't complete without these! Its time to give some sinnoh pokemon evolutions too, as they are the newest generation. Please be sensible though, we don't want to see Gyarados evos Destroying competitive play.Never:
-Make stage 3 pokemon.
-Evolve pokemon with a base stat of over 500.
-Replace on of its types(Scyther is an exception)
Try to:
-Give at least 3 Sinnoh pokemon evolutions.
-Leave Regions with at least 5 single pokemon.
-Evolve pokemon who are sometimes hated or don't have much special about them(Jynx and Chimecho are Examples)
-Make them look different to their Previous forms. Don't add a spike on Toxicroak and call it a new pokemon.
The rest is coming in a while!
