Standard Gardevoir/Xerneas Deck

Howdy,

Long time stalker, first time poster.

I've been using a variation on this deck for a few months... I'll explain after the list:

13 Pokémon:
4x Xerneas (Steam Siege - with Geomancy)
2x Xerneas Break
4x Gardevoir EX (3x Steam Siege 1x Generations)
3x Mega Gardevoir EX (Generations)

9 Supporters:
4x Sycamore
2x Lysander
2x N
1x Pokémon Centre Lady

3 Stadia:
2x Fairy Garden
1x Silent Lab

23 Items:
4x VS. Seeker
4x Ultra Ball
4x Trainers' Mail
4x Max Elixir
3x Gardevoir Spirit Link
2x Exp. Share
1x Escape Rope
1x Super Rod

12 Energy:
12x basic Fairy Energy

Basic plan of action:
Start with Xerneas and at least 2 others on the bench. Geomancy as much energy onto the bench as possible while evolving the Gardevoir into Megas.

Once powered up enough, escape rope/fairy garden into a M-Gardevoir to sweep.

Exp. Share are there to keep energy on the board in case the megas get knocked out.
Xerneas Break is there to do damage to anything with Safeguard (primarily Carbink Break or if Silent lab gets lost) and as a backup attacker.
Silent Lab is generally to shut off things like Volcanion decks and to annoy Shaymin/Hoopa decks turn 1.

The real goal is to spread the energy over as many pokemon as possible. eg. if a Gardevoir with 5 energy attached gets knocked out, the next gardevoir is doing 150 damage less than the previous.
By just keeping 3 energy on it, and having an Exp Share on 2 benched Xerneas, it's just doing 30 less.

So my problem is often an energy shortage. With 12 in the deck, and just the 1 Super Rod, I'm adverse to using Sycamore, to avoid losing any energy in my hand.

Am I better off with Professor Birch? Or even Shauna? Or even swap one or two out for more Ns?

The Exp. Share are also new. I was playing 2x DCE, and then realised: WHY!? They were just good for discarding with an Ultra Ball.

Any suggestions?

I don't have advice for the energy problem right now. But have you considered using fairy drop for a good healing option?

Yeah, I used to play a couple of Fairy Drops, but to be honest with Gardevoir having 210HP, Xerneas Break at 150HP and Xerneas being either disposable or a low energy risk, healing isn't too much of an issue.

If a high risk Gardevoir gets too much damage on it, there's always Pokemon Centre Lady and as many VS. Seekers as you can shake a stick at.

That's true. I guess I just like fairy drop because it doesn't eat up your supporter for the turn. I suppose it does help with saving some space though.

Dce does add to xerneas break's damage and can get a brilliant arrow attack going while keeping fairy energy on your bench and out of harms way.
You could run brock's grit so that you can use it even if you discard it early game with vs seeker instead of relying on luck for super rod to come up at the right time.
I tried a split of 2 max elixir and 2 mega turbo which seems to work well, giving you a chance to recover at least 2 energy from discard.
Hope that is helpful.

Late to the party.

To be perfectly honest, I think the "answer" to your energy issue would be to incorporate 1-2 M Gardevoir EX (STS) into your deck list. 2 shots just about anything for 2 energy and gives you an attacker that isn't reliant on your overall energy for its damage output.

I would also suggest Olympia over PCL and also add in a Hex Maniac to deal with Greninja + Volcanion match ups.

I have found that in my deck list that is similar to this, it is more effective to drop the Max Elixirs and add another Super Rod + 1 Energy Recycler. The reason I say this is because I have found this deck to be somewhat slow with the primary power coming later in the game. You need to be able to keep stacking energy onto your pokemon later and the only way to do that effectively is to get the energy out of your discard pile. I prefer putting it into my deck, but I won't argue with anyone using Energy Retrieval to get it into their hand.

Finally my deck list also incorporates 3 Lucky Helmets and runs off 11 energy and incorporates an Ace Trainer on the assumption I am going to lose that first Xerneas and fall behind in prizes early, but that is personal preference.

Regarding your Sycamore/Energy question:

Sycamore is definitely your premier draw card available at this time. It's unfortunate, because the card is so terribly frustrating, but there just isn't a good enough alternative out there.

You might consider adding Mega Turbos, though, if you find yourself dumping energies away too often. It's a cheap & easy way to bring your energies back, and adds a secondary element of energy acceleration after Geomancy.

I play a version of this with Hoopa, 2 GEN M Gard and 2 STS, 3 Mega Turbos and an energy retrieval.

I don't have any PCL, trainer's mail, silent lab or exp share. It's not perfect, but the energy problem is less common with a little more focus on acceleration and retrieval. Hoopa can take fairy energy and retreat out and helps distribute them( he's also always accepting of max elixir). As far as Sycamore, cut one and add an N or Kukui even for that extra damage.

I think the reason I don't like using the Mega Turbos for this setup is that they truly only get energy on your Megas and there are a lot of times I have found that the 3 Mega Turbos get in the way. By contrast, Super Rod almost never gets in the way in this deck. As stated with your list, I also rarely run into issues with energy :)

I would be curious to see your deck list as a comparison. Here is mine for a reference :) It is off the top of my head, so there might be a couple cards different. And yeah, I know this one is off the beaten path a bit. It has been effective though, so I feel pretty good about it. It is definitely still being worked on though, which is why I wouldn't mind seeing other lists. Never know what might click right?
