Hello I'm a new player. I haven't yet been to a tournament but I did go to the Boundaries Cross Prerelease. I'm interested in joining this scene and I started by buying the Garchomp theme deck. Through packs and card vendors I've arrived at this deck so far. I need some help.

Pokemon 21
4-3-4 Garchomp (4 Gibles are Sand attack)
4-4 Altaria
2 Emolga (Call for Family)

Trainers 27
4 N
4 Juniper
3 Bianca
2 Skyla
3 Rare Candy
2 Super Rod
3 Level Ball
2 Switch
4 Pokemon Catcher
Energies 12
4 Blend LWSF
3 {W}
5 {F}

Strategy:
The same as any Gartaria deck. Try to setup Garchomp and Altaria as quickly as possible. This is best achieved by getting a gabite. The Sooner I get Gabite the sooner the bench will be setup.

Take out at the very least half your water energies until you get more blends then when you do you shouldn't have more than 2 water energies.
Add a couple of Cherens/Bianca something to look more or less like this...

-9 Water energy
-2 great balls

+3 Blend energies
+1 Fighting energy
+1 Switch
+1-1 Altaria
+2 Rare Candies
+1 Cheren
+1 Bianca
Also switch the peck Swablu for sing swablu.

Trust me i'm THE Altaria :p

Thank you for replying! Glad to hear from THE Altaria lololol.

Taking out those water energies frees up so much space in my deck. With your recommendations I would have a total of 14 energies which sounds good. I have a question though. Why is it recommended that the build be 4 blends, 7 fighting and 3 water? Why does fighting get more priority than water instead of it being an even 5 and 5.

I'm glad that you suggested adding another Altaria line that makes me happy. And sing Swablue is definitely better. I'm having trouble finding them though lol. At this point I have 4 Altaria and 3 Swablu which is annoying.

Also what should I take out for the Catchers?

uhm well simple say you need an energy on your freshest Garchomp to attack he NEEDS a fighting energy to use Mach Cut ( I think that's his first attack) if your low on energy and all you draw is a water then you can't attack with him... The blends usually take the place of Water you would need for his 2nd attack but also doubles up as a fighting which is awesome.

I completely forgot about catchers xD
-1 town map
-1 hugh
-1 {W}
-1 {F}
(and maybe if you like)
-1 Rare Candy
-1 Juniper

+4 Catchers.
+2 Max Potions.

or you can keep an extra energy and Juniper or candy and take out the switches. I am pretty new like you and my deck is almost identical to yours but I like Max potions instead of switch.

...but of course that is just my preference I like the healing power but it does limit my mobility a little bit more. Switch is a good card to have in this deck its just a pretty tight list.

Ah that's right and it makes a lot of sense.

I'm not sure whether or not to run Max Potion I might do that though hmmmm. I just don't know whether or not Garchomp can survive most attacks in the game. 140 is decent but we'll see. I probably would run it if I notice that Garchomp can take a hit.

I'll add 4 catchers and take out hugh, 1 juniper, 1 rare candy, and a town map. I'll eave the energies there for now.

- 2 Bianca
- 2 Cheren
- 1 Skyla
- 2 Fighting Energy
+ 2 Rare Candy
+ 1 N
+ 1 Juniper
+ 3 Random Receiver

Bianca and Cheren aren't very good, especially in this deck. Bianca tends to work well in things that play Ultra Ball. As far as your N count, it needs to be 4, and you were playing too many energy.

You make a great point about Bianca.

I don't think I should run four rare candies though. Gabite is a great card to get out cause it sets up all your other pokemon so quickly so I wouldn't want to skip over Gabite four times in the same game typically speaking. But adding another N would make sense.

I'm hesitant to take out Skyla cause it gets me any trainer card, aka it gets me level ball which gets me Gabite and when I have Gabite good things tend to happen for me. Typically speaking I don't find myself in need of suporters cause the only supporters I run are draw supporters like Juniper and N. The only reason why I run them is to get a better chance of getting the cards that I need at the moment and usually I only need one card. Skyla lets me get whatever I need. Level Ball for Gabite, or I could fetch a Super Rod to get a KO'd Garchomp into my deck to search for with Gabite in the same turn. When the only Supporters I'm running are Juniper and and N I don't really see the point in getting random receiver. N and Juniper are great early game but when I'm already into mid game or late game I have ton sof cards in my hand cause of Gabite and I really don't want to lose them by playing an N or a Juniper.

I probably do have too many energies though so I'll take those out too.

-2 F energy
+1 N
+1 Juniper
