Gas Prices

You know it, I know it. Gas prices are unreasonably high right now and it's expected to get worse within next year as people who even play TCG's especially Pokemon will be forced to quit because they can no longer afford to pay for the price of oil.

I'm very concerned that I will end up losing not just my TCG/CCG Hobby every weekend but also my job since I don't have a driver's license (due to having a short-attention span) and my grandparents usually take me to work plus they also live on a fixed income where they are poor where as my Mom and my Stepdad who I live with along with my sister are very wealthy.

Fortunately from where I live Gas Prices are relatively cheap (as cheap as can be compared to other States in the Country) due to Ethanol usage where as If you live in like California or New York gas is already above $4 a gallon. It's already $6 a gallon in Hawaii since tourist attractions in the United States for some reason charge more on gas than states that don't.

Well there is some hope to all this, If the U.S. Government can tap into the Alaskan Oil Reserves due to hesitation from the recent BP Oil Spill Disaster that may cut the price of gas nationwide by some degree but since Libya over in the Middle East also controls 3% of the world's oil supply and that not working for our benefit that has also caused gas to jump the way it has.

The reason why gas was around the $2 to $3 a gallon range was due to the U.S. Economy being weak at the time but now since Unemployment is getting lower despite Jobless Claims and the Economy slowly recovering gas is back to where it was back in 2005 post-Hurricane Katrina but much worse. Might as well wrap this up so here's my question to you all:

Is the current rate in which Gas Prices are going making you think about quitting the Pokemon TCG, other TCG/CCG's, or any other out of the house activities you might have that you normally enjoy on a weekend basis If you're able to have weekends off, not being able to make to your destination to play cards, or the fear of your friends not being able to play anymore? Are the Big Oil Companies forcing us to interact more Online, play MMORPG's like World of Warcraft, that sort of thing?

It seems like every time I go to fill up, gas jumps up in price. It's ridiculous that one has to work 5 hours or more just to pay for a tank of gas. I really think corporate greed is to blame for a lot of it. Remember back when gas used to be super high before that it was just that.

Gas is insanely high! It was 1.32 a Liter last I checked, which is expensive to fill up the car.

(Sorry. I'm Canadian.)

Yeah Corporate Greed is to blame, cause it isn't a Supply issue for why Gas is going up like it was back in 2005 with Katrina due to the other half of the United States' Oil Reserves residing in the Gulf of Mexico but it's mainly due to what occurred in the Summer of 2008 when months of record-high energy prices helped drag the U.S. economy into recession leading up to the problems we are facing now.

My fear is that gas prices will never go down regardless of how much they stabilize it's usually not to the amount that people want because the oil companies want as much money as possible for what purpose exactly? Financial Slavery?

It makes me sick that the big Oil Companies especially OPEC are dictating the lives of every American like what they're doing right now. Want to go on vacation during the Summer? Well too bad most people can't afford it these days because of greedy scumbags and the U.S. Government not doing anything about this problem in the first place.

Where's our alternative fuel source? Why no Electric Battery powered cars, oh that's right cause the Big Oil Companies are preventing that alternative energy source from being made public. In order to stay in power they don't want people and other companies in America to get new energy sources for transportation. In return they are making themselves rich while the rest of the country's economy continues to crumble...

I would hate to imagine that our country might be making the same mistakes that brought down the Roman Empire years and years ago. Back then greed did play a huge role in Ancient Rome's downfall but also other things like gluttony and lust as well possibly.

Lately, I've just been using public transportation to get around. I've been spending way too much on gas this and last month. Around four dollars for a gallon is really making me mad.

Oh, and, iirc, gas stations only make around ten to fifteen cents off gasoline. Gas Stations make the most of their money off the stuff you buy inside the station (Drinks, chips, cigarettes, candy, etc).

go die gas companies

Gas here is 4.27 or so, good thing I have a car that takes E-85 at 3.29 a gallon :D

And gas won't be stopping me from playing the TCG, no way Jose. I don't drive more than an hour to any events anyways so it's not gonna make a ton of difference.

So has anyone felt like they're forced to quit Pokemon due to high gas? It'd be a shame cause I really don't want to after spending so much money playing it and I still enjoy it. Why should I let Corporate America force me to quit something that I enjoy on a weekend basis?

It's sad when my parents have to pay for a full tank of gas just for me to have fun playing cards during the weekends but they don't really mind at all cause I've already asked them about that. Everybody is suffering from the high cost of fuel and even If it does stabilize to $3.50 a gallon by this June for the National Average sadly it's just going to go up again because the Markets are rigged. Supply and Demand is rigged, heck saying that President Obama's approval rating influences the price of oil is just stupid.

I have been trying recently to pay my grandparents gas money so they can still take me to work and I can still make money as well. The last thing I wanna do is leech money off of my parents like I did before I graduated High School and before I got my current job 8-9 years ago. I remember getting in trouble for that a few times when things didn't go right.

$4 a gallon isn't ridiculously high. Gas in Europe, at least where I live, is about €1.45/1.50 a liter ($4 a gallon is equal to €1.50 a liter), and it has been like that for the last couple of years. Just make sure to get a car which doesn't consume much, the cars in the US are known for their gas-consuming 'nature'.

Besides, never heard of public transport? Though I admit I have no idea how the public transport is organized in the US.

Public transport is kinda looked down upon in the US. I know you guys are used to trains/etc as an everyday thing..but some people here have never rode a train or public bus. I've ridden both but still would prefer not to unless I absolutely had to.

Gas prices won't make me quit the game..Also as of today Gas went Down in the United states by like 20 cents for the average. Just an FYI

Makes me quite happy that I take public transportation, but it is rather unreliable when wanting to get to a certain place on time. (Looking at you buses).

Gas is typically high in Canadian metropolitan centres and in tourist locations.

I don't play all that often, but I carpool or transit when I need to.

Green car prices can't drop soon enough.

Public transport isn't that bad, well in Europe most people are used to it. It's cheap and in most cases faster than going by car.

$4 a gallon is not a lot. Over here its £1.35 per litre and is set to get higher. Personally I use public transport because insurance cost more than the car because I'm a male teenager (Stupid stereotype :p). Anyway you guys are pretty lucky, there are complaints about certain changes in America but you have to remember a lot of other developed countries are struggling more than you guys.

Yeah, here in Europe, or England, I use public transport. I get the train and bus to school, and to town if I go there.

My problem also is that I work overnights so there would be far less chances to catch any other transportation to work. Not to also mention the nearest Park and Ride from my work is quite a walk.

Over here in the UK its become absolutely ridiculous. Its about £1.50 a litre, and I don't know how much that is in dollars but its completely insane. The most realistic option I've seen is using bio-ethanol, which is around 40p a litre, but you have to have your engine and car converted which might be a lot of money.

Hopefully electric car technology will advance enough so that electric cars become a viable option in the near future.

There is no reason for the oil companies to lower their prices is the sad part, it isn't like they care about customer satisfaction, people need to buy gas and they can charge whatever they want for it because there is no practical alternative available. People aren't going to stop spending money on it. Where I live gas is like 3.70$ a gallon if I recall. Could be much worse.

Its kinda the opposite. Gas companies have made record profits for years now. They have not, and never have truly justified their prices, and take advantage because no one can stop them. With all the oil we steal from the middle east, excuses are all that formulate such a number.

Before the raise in prices I was paying about $26 a week, now I am anywhere between 36-40. It's a jump, but I'm not feeling it too bad.

In the UK at least almost 70% of the amount we pay on fuel is tax from the government, so I don't see how the fuel companies are making such profits at all. They're discovering new oil springs all the time though, one was just bought up in Israel. But as I say, electric car technology will hopefully develop enough soon to be viable.
