Gengars: Do they still haunt metagame?

Yeah, I haven't played in quite some time, but I remember that at leagues and tourneys, Gengar/Nidoqueen was used a lot and was probably the most commonly played deck. I'm kinda thinking to build a Gengar deck but hate the idea of using a deck everyone is using. Are Gengars (any) played anymore? And if so, what decks are they seen in??
Thanks a million, PokeBeach people.
:)

Well, the rotation is now HGSS-On, and the only Gengar is Gengar Prime, which may or may not be good. I haven't personally seen any around my area, but that may differ depending on where you play.

Oh, lawd. By the time you quit playing, Gengar simply got even more popular. By the time Platinum: Arceus came out, the deck Cursegar, using the Curse Gengar from Arceus, became very popular because it could hit-and-run and lock your opponent's Trainers at the same time. Once Undaunted came out, Gengar SF became even better, because the new Vileplume from that set locked all Trainers while it was in play, powering up Poltergeist.

In the next format, HS-on, there is only one viable Gengar deck, being Lostgar. It uses Gengar Prime and Lost World. Gengar Prime lets you look at your opponent's hand and put one Pokemon from your opponent's hand and into the Lost Zone for each Psychic Energy attached to Gengar. If your opponent has 6 Pokemon in the Lost Zone and Lost World is in play, you declare yourself the winner. This deck isn't as good as other decks, since it has no way of doing damage, and plus, there a few popular Darkness types. However, it's still a decent deck.

The only Gengar still in the format is Gengar Prime. I wouldn't say it's a tier one deck, but it's first attack "Hurl Into Darkness" is pretty good. You can send the pokemon in your opponent's hand to the lost zone which can be quite disruptive, but it also works very well with Lost World. There's multiple possibilities with this type of deck, but a common used card in lost zone based decks is Mew Prime.

So yeah, Gengar is still pretty good and will be seen in the metagame. I would explain even more aspects of the deck, but I don't really have the energy to do so lol. I'm sure other members would be very happy to help you build a deck with Gengar Prime if you need help making it though. =)

There's been another rotation? I was unaware of that. The last I know of was the cut off at GE/MD. Oops, fail on my part.
And wow, Gengar has never failed to impress. Always doing something beast.

The rotation will occur July 1st, making the format HS-on (Heartgold/Soulsilver, Unleashed, Undaunted, Triumphant, Call of Legends, and Black/White).

Yea, Gengar's always been good. Primegar isn't amazing, but it's somewhat viable with Baby Pokemon popping up. I noticed when you get careless and play your babies, they just snipe them with Cursed Drops.

Also, Spiritomb TR and Seeker are still in the Format ensuring the deck can keep up. It's pretty speedy, but I'm not sure if it will be played as much as Vilegar was.

dmaster out.

That and it could determine how popular Lucario Lost Zone decks become. I've heard people tell me that MewGar will make an impact at Nationals despite that it never did at Battle Roads this year so I guess we'll wait and see what happens. I figured with LostGar losing Palkia G Lv. X for Lost Cyclone especially Warp Energy from the rotation it would've crippled the decks' chances of making a competitive comeback but I could be wrong.

Don't forget Mr. Mime CL and Slowking HS/CL. Even Mime Jr. if you run Slowking. It works amazing HS on cuz people love draw/search, and it'll deck them out AND get Pokemon in the lost zone..

I think that mew gar will be formidable in the hs-on format and is buying a few mew to use myself. But a nice thing about gengar prime based decks is that is can provide something to spice up game play due to the alt-win condition when you play lost world instead of relying on taking prizes to win.

Bwaaaa

Yes, Turbo LostGar has a shot, definitely. Lost World, Gengar Prime, and any cards that get the thing set up FAST like Cleffa. If you play against one, just pray your game goes to time.
