Getting around RayBoar with Virgen

Hey everyone, so I was trying to think of ways to combat Rayboar with Virgen.

The first idea I came up with was using blend-dark fire psychic grass along with shadow circle which prevents weakness if a pokemon has dark energy on it. This seems pretty situational and hard to pull off to me, since they're also playing beach.

Any ideas, help or feedback to my idea is appreciated :D.

I mentioned this elsewhere, and I don't mean to totally kill the thread, but honestly I think it's a lost cause. Reshiram is only part of the problem; Rayquaza can utterly annihilate the deck as well since you don't have the weakness advantage that you do against Blastoise and Virizion/Genesect really has a tough time dealing with constant OHKO's. The only real possibility is Frozen City, but they can just get rid of that with Beach, not to mention that they can still do quite a bit of damage even if City ever managed to stick.

It's just one of those matchups where you have to shrug your shoulders, accept that it's very unfavorable and focus on consistency and your other matchups. Remember that one really bad matchup doesn't make a deck bad, it just means you have to think about the metagame you're going into a little more.

You could play Virbank/Lasers to hit those magic numbers. Red signal then Megalo Cannon + plus muscle band and virbank/laser can KO an Emboar or Delphox (which ever is giving you trouble). Bouffalant + muscle band + plus virbank/laser KOs Ray while only giving up one prize. You wouldn't have to go too far out of your way to add these because those combos would also be good in other matchups too.

Of course, this is just an idea, so take it with a grain of salt, but I can't see the harm in testing.

What about running Keldeo EX for Secret Sword in VirGen? It might not do as much damage as it would in Blastoise variants but at the very least you can set it up easily using DCE with Scramble Switch although you would risk losing 2 prizes. If you Emerald Slash energies onto Keldeo EX.

You can't play scramble switch you have to play g-booster.

If you can wait a couple of months, Druddigon from the upcoming set is fantastic against Rayquaza.

I've been playtesting with Palkia EX - you might want to consider teching that into your deck. Strafe is a great attack and effective against Dragon types.

Probably really silly as it can be easily countered, but how about Plasma Frigate? It states each of your pokemon with a plasma energy attached has no weakness. This works well with Shadow Triad, but loses free retreat or Skyarrow. Luckily if it is replaced by the RayBoars stadium it's ok because it will most likely be Beach or skyarrow bridge too.

Only hits for 100 and the problem with the matchup is Delphox/Reshiram.

I think you mean 180 on Rayquaza? Otherwise it'd just do 90 with Revenge. I would consider throwing an Outrage Kyurem in there, forcing the Rayquaza out for an OHKO (unless they have a Muscle Banded Reshiram in which...egh) so you can go in with the Druddigon. It really stinks, this matchup.

Then Keldeo EX + 1-2 W energy - especially if you already run DCEs and Energy Switch in the deck.

Noting that Palkia EX with Muscle Band and 2 Deoxys in play OHKO's Rayquaza EX.

Further noting that Palkia EX doesn't have that Fire Weakness.

That's it; just noting. Don't think anyone plays more than one Deoxys in Virizion/Genesect anyway, but I mean if you really wanted too...

You have sufficient ammo in the Vir-Gen deck already. Utilize that red signal ability to take out Tepigs and Reshiram early.

Plus as long as you can Megalo Cannon and Laser+Virbank before they can Blue Flare, you'll do just fine.

I play Rayboar myself, and Red Signaling Emboars, Tepigs, Dephox, and Fennekins is really effective. Palkia EX is also a pain in the neck to deal with. Even if it's a 2HKO on Rayquaza EX, the Rayboar deck can't touch it as long as it returns to the Bench. Also, Strafe with Muscle Band knocks out Fennekin and Tepig in one attack, so that with Red Signal is a pretty good way to prevent Emboar and Delphox from coming into play.
