Getting back in the game

Hey guys, i used to play a bit but then sort of stopped for a while and as it turns out, my last deck i made (which really worked well for me) has expired (for tournament play at least). I used to run mostly dragon frontiers and crystal guardians cards. My big gun was delta feraligatr x 4 as well as the delta fearow x 3 (for the poke power delta call) as well as an altaria ex for kicks. I had lots of prof. elms and card search cards.(supporters i believe).

Now i really liked that particular deck because i got my heavy hitters out EXTREMELY fast and was able to get them energized and at some points, have 4 active feraligatrs (making them do 100 damage a peice with the poke body.

So in a list, heres what i like in a deck:

-heavy heavy hitters
-opponent manipulation (ie. feraligatrs drag off)
-able to get pokemon out and evolved VERY FAST
-able to energize them VERY FAST

This is where YOU come in. I need you guys to refer me to some cards that suit my style from the newer sets. But heres the thing.. since money (as always) plays a bit of a roll, i preffer to get my heavy hitters out of actual deck kit as oppose of boosters so i know for sure i'm getting what a want (as oppose of risking it)

So when reffering me some cards try to get them from theme decks (i don't mind getting 2 different kinds). If some only come in boosters, so be it, i don't mind buying a few, its always fun.

And as for type. Obviously i'm used to electric, heavy hitting, special condition possibility, etc.. I love special conditions but i hate relying on them (offensively)

I'm almost wanting to try darkness or steel for fun ( newer types) but i won't get to picky when asking for a reference.

Also, please post some highly recommended trainer cards for me to look up. And soon enough, i'll be asking for deck help advice so be ready!!

Thanks for any and all help, and i look forward to getting back in the game

Hmmmm.. how about flygon?
the flygon comes from the RR starter deck "Drill Point", and it gets energy really fast becasue of DCE from HGSS.
You'd have to buy the flygon x on eBay or something, but that's the case with just about all godd decks these days :p

-heavy heavy hitters
-opponent manipulation (ie. feraligatrs drag off)

-able to energize them VERY FAST

you have mentioned every top metagame deck out there, gyarados, sp variant's, donphan, jumpluff, charzard, etc, i rest my case. cya

Gyarados is probably your best bet, although that does require some more expensive cards. Gyarados itself comes in a theme deck, although I can't remember which off hand.

GL and welcome back to the game!

ampharos - hgss. gets 2 energies from deck and attaches to any pokemon
blastoise - Unleashed - 100 dmg snipe
lanturn prime - unleashed - heavy hitter. 20x total energy attached to all ur pokemon
pokemon circulator - unleashed - opponent switches pokemon
pokemon reversal - hgss - flip, you switch ur opponents pokemon

those are what i can think of from the new legend series. get them in packs.

Your list is more based upon Gyarados. Gyarados is one of the best decks around, being able to do 90 damage, for no energy on a regular basis (high damage, and definitely a fast energy attachment =P) Using Luxray GL Lv.X and Pokemon Reversal, you can control what your opponent has active and what to easily KO. And Gyarados, being as stage-2, can evolve quickly and most of the time is already going by the second turn.

However, it is quite a bit pricey. Luxray GL Lv.X is well about 80 dollars, considering how good it is. But the other cards are pretty easy to find.

alright thanks so far guys but we're not done!
-first question, what deck does the gyarados come in?
-2: how long does a card set typically remain tournament legal? I'm looking at the stormfront deck to maybe get 3 or even 4 tyranitars. Does anybody recommend this?
-3: what are some of the newer (and legal) trainer cards that let you get your pokemon out ASAP? I'm used to celios network and stuff but that seems to be expired.
-4: are there any trainer cards that are new enough that i might not have heard of that would just wreck all hope in the opponent?
-5: are there any pokemon with an ability to get pokemon out fast? sort of like fearow D's delta call?

if the tyranitars will be legal for some time now i think i might go that route. Either way, keep the suggestions coming! thanks guys

-2: how long does a card set typically remain tournament legal? I'm looking at the stormfront deck to maybe get 3 or even 4 tyranitars. Does anybody recommend this? I am 99% sure Stormfront will be rotated after worlds. I do not recommend getting the Tyranitars, as they will be illegal in a couple months and are not a viable deck at this time. If you like Tyranitar from Stormfront, I suggest playing Tyranitar Prime from Unleashed, as it is more viable in the format and will definitely be around this year and the year after
-3: what are some of the newer (and legal) trainer cards that let you get your pokemon out ASAP? I'm used to celios network and stuff but that seems to be expired. Pokémon Communication, Bebe's Search, Roseanne's Research, Pokémon Collector, etc. Uxie from Legends Awakened and Claydol from Great Encounter are this format's most used draw engines, but they will most likely be rotated after worlds
-4: are there any trainer cards that are new enough that i might not have heard of that would just wreck all hope in the opponent? Judge and Cyrus's Initiative are good disruptive supporter cards
-5: are there any pokemon with an ability to get pokemon out fast? sort of like fearow D's delta call? Sunflora HS can search for any {G} Pokémon once per turn

If you want quick hitters and control over your opponent FlyLock works great. Flygon can abuse Double Colorless energy and paired with Palkia X GE you can switch your opponent, you retreat for free with rainbow float and with memory berry use Trapinch's Sand Tomb. This holds them in place while you draw out all their cards. If that doesn't work Flygon is already fast and powerful. Great deck IMO

tyranitar prime looks ace. Can you get them by buying collector tins and he's the card in the "window"?
so to my understanding, primes are just "better" but rarer? I'm okay buying 3 collector tins cause then i know i'm getting 3 tyranitar primes

or does tyranitar prime come from the "chaos control" deck? and is that card set going to be legal for some time?

I don't know if i care for flygon all too much.. no real heavy hitters there.. correct me if i'm wrong.

i'm quite interested in primes. Let me know which primes are easy to find (eg. in a theme deck or in a collectors tin) and which ones would be good to base a deck off of.

Sorry for al the questions but thanks for all the answers!

RE: sorry i just found some collector tins with meganium, typhlosion and feraligatr (all primes). maybe the meganium primes could do it up with some help from the above listed Sunflora HS (Heartgold Soulsilver i'm assuming). That being said, does sunflora come in any decks?

This of course is just a possibility. I still think tyranitar prime would be fun to get out but then i don't have that much else of a strategie to go behind.

Keep the suggestions coming, I really appreciate it!

I just got back in the game my self I have bought 3 boxes of HGSS, 3 boxes of SF, 2 boxes of RR, and countless packs.

The easiest experience for me has to be flyphan it is simple and so easy to use and incredibly strong. I also like speedrill also easy. You are better off buying single off ebay or some other sights. but if your a collector like me just spend some dollars and see what you get. I am not disappointed in what I did not in the least bit.

how about something like this
3 maganium prime
2 venusaur sv
2 sunflora hs

obviously i'd have to get some off ebay. However, if i'm doing that, i'm just going to want to make the most killer deck known to mankind.

can someone direct me to some example deck using a meganium prime or a tyranitar prime or something?

also, i noticed beraly any decks have more than 14 energies. why is this? i hate being at a lack of energy

Luxpluff(Luxray GL+Jumpluff(GS))is your answer sir.
-heavy heavy hitters - Jumpluff can hit for up to 120 without expert belt.
-opponent manipulation (ie. feraligatrs drag off) - Luxray drags up Claydol(a crucial card for many decks) and Jumpluff knocks them out.
-able to get pokemon out and evolved VERY FAST - This deck is extreamly fast. I have hit with over 100 damage on t1 on multiple occasions.
-able to energize them VERY FAST - It only needs 1 energy to do either of its attacks, so I would say this is really fast.

i don't really understand the whole luxray hype.. could someone expand?

Also, i have a few more pesky questions..
-is there some loophole to get more than 4 pokemon?
(I'm trying to get as many darkrai G and darkrai lvlX as possible..
they seem like a killer combo..)

-if not, is there a card like memory berry but so i can use poke bodies/powers from darkrai G once darkrai lvl X is out?
-what cards are there to get pokemon out of your discard pile and either into your hand, into the deck or even right to the bench?

might have more questions soon too

Luxray is hyped because it has one of the best Poke Powers in the game. Bright Look allows you to switch your opponent's active Pokemon with one of their benched, which means you control their board. Although it can only be used when Luxray GL Lv.X comes into play, with Poke Turn it can be re-used over and over again.

Also, i have a few more pesky questions..
-is there some loophole to get more than 4 pokemon? Unless you are counting Arceus, no. However, with SP Pokemon, you can have 4 of the SP Pokemon and 4 of the original.

-if not, is there a card like memory berry but so i can use poke bodies/powers from darkrai G once darkrai lvl X is out? A Pokemon Lv.X can use all attacks and Powers/Bodies from the previous one. However, sorry to say but Darkrai Lv.X cannot level up from Darkrai G. Darkrai Lv.X can only level up on regular Darkrai. However, that means you can run 4 Darkrai G and 2-2 or 3-1 of the regular Darkrai Lv.X.
-what cards are there to get pokemon out of your discard pile and either into your hand, into the deck or even right to the bench? Plenty. Night Maintenance, Time-Space Distortion, Pokemon Rescue, Palmer's Contribution... those are the ones I can name off the top of my head.
