RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

Oh wow! :O

Congrats and good luck on this, I'm very happy for you. :3

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

No one here deserves it more than you. Congrats. =)

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

Awesome! Congratulations on this, hopefully you can fix that stuff and get this done. ^.^

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

When I was reading the first few paragraphs I was like "omg wth" especially for the copyright thingy but then the sudden change in tone with the invitation to get published... amazing.

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

Sweet zombie Jesus, this is the coolest thing I've heard all year. But yeah, it comes under the condition that you improve and whatnot... still, seems you have made an impression. :0

Stickied, though? :s

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

I can see it now:

Dear Miss Hikara,

April Fool's! Get off our trademarks. suesuesuesue

Sincerely,

Nintendo

No but really, congrats CH, we're all happy for you and have faith you'll be able to get this going. I'd buy a copy out of principle. =]

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

Wow CH this is wonderful! Congratulations, this is incredible! Good luck with everything!

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

I'd buy a copy out of principle. =]
As would I. If ever I found out that your book would be at Barnes&Noble, I'd cycle down there just to get a copy, just to show my support for you and your work. Hope it ultimately comes to that.

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

I have only scraped the surface of your writing, much less your artwork, but from what I have read you are an excellent writer. Congrats on getting published, I'm glad to see your hard work payed off. Nintendo... wow, way to start off your writing/drawing career with a bang!

I hope it works out for you, I'd definitly buy i ;D It must have great potential for them to have written you back!!!

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

The scariest part of the whole thing, at least to me, was "Of utmost importance, however, is the fact that you use several places, characters and general Nintendo-trademarked memorabilia in your comic. This is expected in a fan comic, but copyright issues need to be thorougly talked through and through with you personally." I've been around when discussions about this kind of thing were taking place (fan usage of copyright things), and even then it was kind of worrying. x( I kinda worry about what they'll say whenever I apply to work for them.

But regardless, congratulations! I hope this turns out to be as great as it sounds - you definitely deserve it. :3

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

Great job. You earned it. Hopefully the improvements can be made and it won't be long before we can see your work online and in stores.

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!!!

Congrats!

As a fellow writer, I have a warning, especially with a big company like Nintendo.

Make sure they keep in touch.

I am a freelancer for a computer website, and I haven't talked to them in months! Make sure your editor is one who will take care of you.

But seriously, there, congrats!

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

This sounds seriously great. This is/will probably be the most important part of your life. Congratulations, it's clear you deserve it.

dmaster out.

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!

;_; Oh man, you guys are so awesome. There's like so many replies and everything! I don't even know how to respond...

BTW, I scanned in the letter. You can read it here.

...

You're all suckers. :D

Yes, that's right. Haven't you happened to notice the closeness of the date to April 1st? Come ON!

Hehe, wanker.

In all seriousness, here are the truths- and lies- of my elaborate scheme.

Truth:

-I am actually going to send out a letter to Nintendo very shortly (though I'm unsure how to even begin yet) concerning rights to self-publish Enigmatic Star.
-Nintendo, from what I've gathered, is actually REALLY cool with fan stuff. I've heard this from quite a few sources by now (including a Gamestop guy that doesn't EVEN PLAY GAMES), so if that rumor has some truth to it, I'm going to take my chances with the company.
-Seth is actually a manager for Nintendo marketing stuff. :3 He is NOT fictional.
-I already know that I DO have those issues with my comic. They come from many many remarks I've gotten from it and the fact that I look at the pages and see it for myself. I will be fixing these pages before I attempt publication, because I'm incredibly perfectionistic like that. ;X
-I do have a screentonist working for free for me right now, who goes by Momo. I don't really know too much about the guy, other than he does really good toning work. Since I'd be selling this, it would get complicated with profit (HA!) rights with Momo, so I'd plan on actually making the comic color.

Lies:

The biggest one is that Nintendo would actually even consider publishing this (obviously). This amounts to several factors:
-...the biggest being Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Ginji's Rescue Team. This comic has been published by VIZ, and was also published in the pages of Nintendo Power. With one Mystery Dungeon comic already out, why on EARTH would they want to publish another one?
-I'd totally NOT be cool with them asking to tone the subtle themes of the story down. At all. The story is the heart of the comic, and if you mess with that, in my mind, it all falls apart. :B
-I never did send a letter. ;D
-I do doubt Mr. Seth would take the time to respond personally to me. He's a busy man! I just pulled his name and title off of an episode of Nintendo Week on my Wii. >D
-Because my art is sub-par in the comic industry, I know for certain someone with as little experience (and as few comics) as myself can successfully get published so easily. ;0
-I reacted completely differently than I think I would, to a point. I'd be MUCH more nervous than bouncing off the walls. I'm extremely insecure and paranoid of getting my artwork out there, and getting it published. It may not seem that way, but trust me, I'd be freaking out in not so good of a way.
-Not gonna lie, I partially did this to attract more attention to my comic. I was getting sick of having to double/triple post updates. Hey, two birds, one stone!

Man, you guys fell for this almost as hard as the person that claimed gullible actually WAS in the dictionary. :D

In all seriousness, I will be hopefully contacting Nintendo sometime in the future (probably when I have Chapter 1 all inked out), so if you are actually interested in buying a comic, I'll keep people updated in my comic thread. There will be many many good benefits to buying a comic, trust me, including all color pages, free signatures and potential shout-outs in the future volumes. ;D I wonder how many of you believe me when I say this. Seriously. ;D

Also, thanks to Zyflair, my accomplice of awesome, who helped me to account for some potential issues in believability in the story and whom also stickied this for a short time so more people would notice it ;D *high-fives!* I'll be lettin' you know when ES V.1 comes out and I'll send you a signed copy. ^^

Happy April Fool's Day, everyone!

*quickly dashes off for a week to avoid the rage of the tricked*

RE: GETTING PUBLISHED!!!

OMG WE FAIL.

Man, I can't believe we actually fell for this. :p

D: So this is all PB is doing this year for April Fools? Aw. Well played, and as said you successfully dragged me back to Creative Works. Also, Seth doesn't spell his name with a period, last time I checked. ^_^

Edit: Forgot P B without the space translates to PokeBeach when typed.

EDIT 2: ...I see. Copyright issues.

Uh...it goes to prove everyone on this forum is a gullible idiot. Even people like Shining Raikou. (I'm not flaming, it's just in people's natures to do this kind of thing.)

This sucks. It's bad enough you say this and then you kick us in the teeth when it's an April Fools joke. That's a low blow and you know, CH.

Aw well. I'm a fuel, whatever. It was a nice joke, though. Well thought out too, since no one saw it.

But it does prove one thing: PMJ can see the future.
