Good Video Games and Books for the Holiday Season

Lately it seems like there is nothing good to play for the wii and the ds and I have no clue what to try. I'm completely new to the XBox so I have no clue what games are good for that system. Also, I've exhausted my local library of good manga (Ex: naruto or shaman king) and decent reading material (Ex: books like Harry Potter) so I'm completely open to suggestions for video game and books. Along the lines of games, please no M games (I've seen the cut-seens for black ops and lets just say some of them I'm not a fan of and I know with reach before anyone says it).

Go ahead and post opinions below.

Sonic Colors
Rock Band 3+DJ Hero 2 (if these are your kind of games)

DS is a tad lacking (but that's just because the 3DS is like a couple months away).

-Golden Eye 007 looks good and same with Kirby's epic yarn (and DK) but with the guitar hero series I end up playing them with friends a few times and then the cord to my drum set kick was broken, but still its kinda a with friends thing.

-Super Mario Galaxy I have gotten to the point where I think I have 5 stars left to get on the first run through.

-Sonic has kinda gone down hill lately so I'll have to have a look at some of its reviews

-Epic Mickey and the ds games I'm unsure of...

I'd like to second dmaster's idea of Super Scribblenauts, I played the first one and loved it, didn't really do the missions, but the game was really fun on the free play at the title screen.
 
I second Donkey Kong Country Returns. The game is really good, in both platforming and in graphics. It is definitely a game for hardcore gamers, due to its difficulty.
 
I also agree the Epic Mickey is going to be a fantastic game when it comes out tomorrow; critics are obsessing over it. Just look up "Epic Mickey" on Youtube. You'll... you'll see what we mean ;)

Don't forget Tatsunoko V.S. Capcom: Ultiamte All-Stars. That's a great game that deserves to be played. Same with Monster Hunter Tri. I also second all of the games on Dmasters list

Remember this thread is not necessarily for just me to get ideas from and don't forget the oldies like Mario Kart DS or Animal Crossing Wild World DS. Also, if you can, provide a short description of what the game is about for people who have never heard of it. :)
 
The story for Epic Mickey is basicly there's a world of Walt's forgotten characters called the Wasteland. Mickey notices this land and uses Yen Sid's magic paint brush to... I guess create himeslef or something but ends up creating the Blot and causing a Thinner disaster in the Wasteland. Jump ahead several years (80 to be exact) and the Blot pulls Mickey into the Wasteland where he meets everyone there including Walt's first character know as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. So to sum up the story it's up to Mickey to save the Wasteland using the magic paint brush to use paint and paint thinner to defeat the Blot.
 
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn just came out so that is definitely worth a shot.

Metroid: Other M is a good new Wii game. I've heard good things about Dragon Quest 9 (DS) too.

theres Dragon Quest swords for the wii and DQ 9 for the DS (those games have been really good so far)
I think there are Fire Emblem games for both (previous FE games have also been pretty good)
and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days for DS i have heard to be pretty good, but you might want to know the story behind it (so you would either have to play thw first KH games or read the manga)
 
Okay, I'm considering getting Golden Eye for my B-day (shortly after christmas :)), but should I get the version that comes with the controller or just the game (also considering Epic Mickey). I do not have any of the classic controllers so far as a heads up.
