Greninja Discussion

I'm not sure how viable this is, but what do you guys think about a potential Greninja/Dusknoir/Gourgeist (XY) deck? For those that aren't aware, Gourgeist has an attack for 1 psychic energy that puts 2 damage counters on each of your opponents Pokemon, and then for 2 psychic reduces both the defending and it's own HP until they are both at only 10 HP remaining. I feel as though this provides an excellent opportunity for a lot of spread damage for Dusknoir to play around with, and will allow Greninja to get some KOs more easily, especially for Gourgeist's low cost first attack that can get up to 120 damage on the field while also bypassing Mr. Mime.

It seems kinda neat, but you're going to have to run a lot of Energy, and with 2 stages 2s (even if 1 of them is a thin line), it might be a pretty tight list.

It does seem like the decklist would be a bit cramped (especially without tropical beach) but I think it's worth a try for a fun deck at the very least. And I agree, Chandelure EX would be an excellent starter to get some quick damage on the field.

Greninja EX. It's nothing special, but it can snipe for one water energy, which is perfect in a deck like this.

I think that Greninja can definitely work with Kingdra. Here's a dumb list I improvised:

Pokemon: 20
4-1-3 Kingdra
3-1-3 Greninja
2-0-2 Delphox
1 Jirachi EX

Trainers: 28
4 Skyla
4 N
4 Roller Skates
3 Bicycle

4 Rare Candy
4 Ultra Ball
2 Level Ball
2 Tool Scrapper
1 Dowsing Machine

Energy: 12
12 Water Energy

There are obvious flaws, but it seems like an OK concept...

Roller Skates? Three Stage-2 lines? Sweet heavens! I'm sorry but...oochy. This isn't very viable.

Greninja/Greninja-EX seems to be the most viable way of doing things in my opinion. You can probably squeeze in a Dusknoir line, but that's it.

A long time ago, running 3 stage 2 lines in the same deck was not uncommon. Do you remember the infamous deck titled,"Rock Lock?" It was great back then. Now, with all the "big basics" type decks and their inherent speed, I would be hesitant to run 3 stage 2 lines in the same deck.

I've too found that a Greninja-Kingdra combo has serious promise... Water Shuriken(s) followed by an immediate Dragon Vortex can inflict some serious damage. Still tweaking my "alpha" list, but I'm quite encouraged; my Poké lineup now consist of:

4-1-3 Kingdra
4-1-4 Greninja
1 Exeggcute
2-2 Leafeon (Energy Crush is amazing and Leafeon can be a "cleanup" attacker) or Kyurem (PF; hits active and potentially opponent's benched Poké) or Call for Family Poké (e.g., Kangaskhan that can take a hit) that can help setup bench.

Precisely. Rock Lock was prominent in a format where you could Candy T1 into Pidgeot and hit the ground running with setting up Stage-2s. This isn't the same.

I like the addition of Leafeon in your list. I think it'd be more beneficial than the others.

I tried a Greninja deck on playtcg with normal attackers (Mewtwo, Bouffalant, Suicune). I ended up getting destroyed, but Suicune did prove to be pretty useful against all the big EX's. I'd probably take out the Bouffalant and just go Mewtwo/Suicune.

Another idea is Manaphy for acceleration after discarding energy with Greninja, I'm thinking of trying out a Greninja/Manaphy/Lugia/Kyurem deck.

I built one and it performed horribly against a kid who knows very little about deck building, so I don't even want to know how bad it'd do against a seasoned player. The kid did have a few Yveltals, which is how he won his 5 prizes, but I finally got a couple Greninjas up and running to take them out and come back for the win.

Of course I never got Dusknoir out, so if I had him on my bench, things could've probably been different. It seems like it needs a big basic or some kind of stall-tech to help while setting up Greninja and Dusknoir.

IMHO, an excellent deck idea... I've been running a variation of this deck concept for weeks now with very good results.
