Standard Guardians Rising Garbodor/Vespiquen

Hello everyone! Ever since I saw an article about Guardians Rising, this deck popped into my head for some reason. So, the idea is to put enourmus pressure on your opponent by setting up Vespiquen in the active with a Garbodor on the bench, and force them to play items by setting up Bee Revenge extremely fast so that they quickly have to deal with Vespiquen, and in that case, they'll play a boatload of items in an attempt to set up, and you can utilize Vespiquen's free retreat to retreating into Garbodor, and then stream Garbodors and Vespiquens to win the prize trade. Also, if they don't play items, their setup will bee (sorry, couldn't resist the pun :p) immensely slowed, paving the way for a massive field wipe with Vespiquen. Also, I just realized: there's more than one way to get items in the discard. If they aren't playing items, they'll start relying on Sycamore or N (hopefully Sycamore) for draw. Their hand will clog with items, and when they play Sycamore, those items will be discarded. So, here's a decklist I put together:

Garbiquen:

Pokemon:26

3x Garbodor
3x Trubbish
4x Vespiquen
4x Combee
1x Machoke (improves your chances against Decidueye, and Oricorio if it sees play.)
1x Machop
2x Shaymin-EX
2x Tapu-Lele-GX
2x Klefki
4x Unown

Trainers: 27

4x Sycamore
2x N
1x Teamates
1x Lysandre
3x VS Seeker
3x Acro Bike
2x Level Ball
4x Ultra Ball
1x Special Charge
1x Super Rod (Was going to be Revitalizer, but I decided I might want Garbodor back too.)
1x Switch
2x Choice Band (Really wanted more of these. Helps the math alot.)
2x Forest of Giant Plants

Energy: (7)

3x Psychic Energy
4x Double Colorless Energy

Any tips/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated! The biggest problem right now is deck space, really need some help with that.

Hey, I used to play tons of Vespiquen in this rotation, and I like the idea of implementing the new Garbodor. I do think the idea has tons of playability, but it's definitely difficult to squeeze them both in. I see no gigantic problems with this list though, it seems pretty good. I can make a few suggestions though.

Water box is a matchup you have to win, and to be able to win that I strongly suggest another special charge. I don't see level ball being too helpful for you, as you're shuffling through a majority of the deck very quickly, so you'll probably find the basics you need. I'd take them both out, and add one special charge. I'd also strongly consider another choice band, as it does really help your math.

I feel as though forest is overrated in vespiquen. While it's nice to be able to charge up a vespiquen in one turn, so many decks really like having their stadium out that only running two seems inconsistent. I'd consider adding another, or cutting them altogether. While I don't recommend not playing any stadiums at all, I don't know what else to suggest. Aether Paradise Conservation Area isn't too fabulous in this deck, as most things can hit 120 pretty easily, and I wouldn't recommend altar of the moone just for garbodor. Parallel City has obvious drawbacks no matter how you play it, and I can't think of any other stadiums that synergize in the least. Sorry I couldn't come up with anything.

A third Klefki makes your Mega Ray matchup far easier, I think, as you can stall for several turns. To capitalize on this, I also recommend taking the super rod out for rescue stretcher. But without rescue stretcher, you may end up being entirely unable to get much mileage out of garbodor. Three energies is not too consistent, hell, you can struggle often enough to find that last DCE in vespiquen, so adding another is important, and it does seem hard to defend not being able to recover them. But the only other things I can think of to cut would be your switch, and your 1-1 line of machoke. But then, you're struggling to get enough damage from pokemon in the discard, so this only complicates matters further. It's confusing, and I think I've asked more questions than I've provided possible answers, for which I apologize.

I hope more people check out this thread, because I'm pretty sure 90% of my advice is worthless here.

Thanks for your advice! I am going to take some of it, along with some of my own edits:

-2 Forest of Giant Plants
-1 Switch
-2 Level Ball

+1 Special Charge
+2 Atlar of the Moone (Here mostly to save deck space by cutting the switch.)
+1 Klefki (Could be a Tauros, but the Guardians Rising Trubbish is an okay starter, with free retreat with Atlar of the Moone, and an okay first attack. I honestly can't decide between the two.)
+1 Psychic Energy

Thanks for the help! :)

BTW: Aether Paradise only works with Basics, thought I should let you know!

Hi, there is a reason why you want to play machoke instead of two mr. mime (bench barrier ability)?

I would also remove one of the Forest and substitute with Parallel city (best and only way to get rid of Shaymins), remove the two choice band (you are already hitting very strong with 1-prize pokemon), add 1 shaymin and 1 tauros GX (I would not play vespiquen with less than 28 pokemon). Then remove 1 N, add 1 Mallow (combos really well with Unown). Remove level ball and substitute with 1 acro bike and 1 vs seeker. Change super rod with Brock's gift (since you have only one card to retrieve pokemon, and if you draw that at first turn you are going to discard it immediately with sycamore). Change switch with float stone aaaand find place for another float stone :)

Don't play Mallow, it's too slow. 1 Float Stone is fine. Machine blocks damage counters as well, not just bench damage. Brock takes too many Pokémon out of the discatd, so Super Rod is fine.

Thanks for the advice! I decided to take out FoGP for Atlar of the moone anyways and Latte said why machoke overu mr.mime. I would type more but my kindle screen is being ridiculous rn.

Okay, gonna try to type, seems like my screen stopped being stupid. Mr. Mime is worse than Machoke because of Decidueye, which is a bad matchup for Vespiquen. I like mallow, but there is absolutely zero space for any non-essential trainer cards. I decided to take out the two Atlar of the Moones for a Paralell City and a Switch for getting Garbodor's fat three retreat cost butt back home, and I also decided to take out the Choice Bands for another Klefki and a Tauros, like nicoladg suggested, which leaves our list looking like this:

Pokemon (28):

4x Vespiquen
4x Combee
3x Garbodor
3x Trubbish
1x Machoke
1x Machop
1x Tauros-GX
3x Klefki
4x Unown
2x Shaymin-EX
2x Tapu Lele-GX

Trainers (24)

4x Sycamore
2x N
1x Teamates
1x Lysandre
3x VS Seeker
4x Ultra Ball
3x Acro Bike
2x Special Charge
1x Super Rod
2x Paralell City
1x Switch

Energy (8)

4x Psychic Energy
4x Double Colorless Energy

Thanks guys! :D

Can't wait to do the proxies of this deck! Will be epic! Do you guys think this could be a competitive deck? I'm starting to! :D
Machoke blocks Decidueye and Oricorio, and Garbodor would be your late game attacker so Karen would be pointless! :D

Okay, going to be making this deck with some budget substitutes:

-1 Shaymin-EX, +1 Klefki.
-2 Tapu-Lele-GX, +1 Remoraid, +1 Octillery
-3 VS Seeker, +3 Trainer's Mail

I was thinking maybe using Rotom Dex to fix a prized Shaymin/Octillery. I do one Shaymin, one Remoraid, and one Octillery in PTCGO and it actually works well. In fact, my preffered engine isn't much different, being 2 Shaymin and a 1-1 Octillery line. I think Shaymin+Octillery is really good. No one really tries it for some reason. Anyways, thanks for all the help! :)

I think the Stadium of Choice for this deck is Sky Field because you need a lot of Bench Space while setting up. There also does not seem to be a better Stadium card for this deck.

Bunnelby is a must-have one or two of card in any garbodor list imo because of how crucial it is in mirror matches to keep items out of your discard.

Skyfield would actually be helpful, I may try that. The Garb matchup is fine, you can trade with em. And it's not like your going to get a ninety hitpoint Vespiquen and a Garbodor that has weakness to itself out of oneshot range with a sixty hitpoint bunnelbly, it's pointless. Skyfield, however, is definitely something ill try. Thanks!

I think playing stadiums in general in Vespiquen is pointless, since you don't have space for four. I also think just a one-one Machoke line is a bit unreliable, so I personally would drop those for another Trubbish and a BreakPoint Garbodor, since Ability lock locks down Decidueye and you play Garb anyway. And with that being said, drop the Switch and X cards to put in 2-3 Float Stones. I post more about this later, I like this idea.

I usually just use Forest, it's been mildly helpful when I have a bunch of Vespiquens in my hand that would otherwise have been destroyed by Sycamore. The Machoke line has saved my life multiple times in PTCGO against Alolan Ninetales, DeciduPlume, and the odd Oriocorio tech. I decided Machoke over Garb because Garb also shuts down Unown and Klefki and doesn't stop Ninetales and Oriocorio. I think Float Stones are better than Switches so that is something i'll fix. Thanks for the advice (and the compliment on the deck) :)

WOW! What a good deck list. I will try this.

Hope you like it :) . I actually gave up on this deck for a while, because I had problems with consistency, but eventually I found the missing links in Teammates and Parallel City.
