Gyarados d The atrocious backup for ALL delta species pokemon

Positive statements:
A great pokébody, that is cumulative when other Gyarados d are in play.
Can take advantage out of Boost energy
He's metal type, so he can use metal energies to reduce damage.
He has weakness for lightning, which can be bad when you have to take out for example an Ampharos; that also has metal resistance. And there are coming more and more electric pokemon (due to delta species pokémon).
But overall his weakness and type is nothing to worry about.
90 HP is very decent for a stage 1 pokemon.

Negative statements:
2 retreat cost is a little too high for a pokemon that needs 2-5 energy's to attack, and that is a stage 1.
Magikarp are very easy to take out, Gyarados d needs to get in play as fast as possible
He needs 5 energies for a decent attack

With:
Delta species ofcourse:
Golduck d can keep stadiums with holon in their names in play.
And Flygon d can attach energy onto delta species.
A lot of people would like to add a Kabutops d in here, but he would slow the deck down, because you would need to worry about too many different pokemon.
In this combo Flygon d is the main attacker. 60 unstoppable damage for GMC, with some Gyarados d in play, that could easily become 70 up to 100 unstoppable damage.

Unlimited:3.5/10 Gyarados d relies on special energies and stadiums too much.

Modified:7/10 Very good, can be used in lots of decks that feature delta species pokémon.

Limited:7/10 Great, lots of delta species here and a holon stadium. But he needs 5 energies to do major damage, and there is no boost in Holon Phantoms.

Overall; Good card, but it is a free prize for decks like rock-lock. This card will probably be more popular after the rotation.

First We shall look at the Best Magikarp in the Current Format.

065.jpg

HP(Hit Points)

The Magikarp Above is from TRR. 30HP is VERY common for Magikarp. Almost all Magikarps in the whole TCG has 30HP. This can really be a problem if you face against a deck that has the Strategy to do 30 damage by Turn 2.  Blaziken from Holon Phantoms, Sceptile from Emerald and Milotic EX from Emerald are Examples.

Attacks

With 1 Water Energy, it allows you to search your deck for TWO basic Pokemon and put them onto your bench. Well, due to this attack, it is a Perfect Starter. It is quite similar to plusle, only that it has 30 HP.

Weakness

Weakness to Lightning hurts with the increasing of ZRE and Zap-turn-dos decks around the tourney area.

Resistance

Having no Resistance really hurts. Even a simple Resistance would be enough for this card to last long through the game.

Retreat Cost

1 Retreat Cost pays up for its low HP and no Resistance. It can "Flee" from battle without making you worry about a loss you have to make.

Well, that's all for Magikarp.  Now we go on to the main card,

Gyarados d

HP(Hit Points)

With a total HP of 90, this pokemon can last long through out the game. But 90HP isn't enough to handle and stall against a lot of pokemon like Steelix EX and Manectric EX. But with Energy root and Low Pressure System, Gyarados d can have a total HP of 120HP, but there are many Obstacles to go through. For instance, ATM [Ice].

Type( Lightning and Metal)

Well, Blastoise EX, Pidgeot, Walrein EX, and Many other Pokemon have Weakness to these two strange combinations of types. But there is also many Downsides as well. A lot of Ampharos, Manetric EX and other Metal'ed Resistance Pokemon can hurt his Atrocious Pokemon. So, as Steelix EX and Golem which are at most, increasing too. This could make Gyarados d attack less. Being a Metal type also means that it can reduce damage with Metal enegies attached to it which really pays its low HP.

Poke-Body

Delta Reactor allows you to add 10 more damage to attacks that are used from Delta pokemon, including you have a Stadium with "Holon" in its name. With helpful Stadiums like Holon Lake, Holon Research Tower, Holon Ruins and more, it would be easy to activate Delta Reactor. The fact that it is Cumulative, it can do up to 40 Damage which is a big amount of damage.

Attacks(Part 1 and Part 2)

Part 1

Hyper Beam is a Popular attack in the Games as it does Huge amounts of damage. But it is WAY different in TCG. With a Metal Energy and another Energy of any type, it can attack for 20, but there's more. A coin Flip is needed to determine whether you can discard an energy attached to the defending pokemon. It's quite solid though as it can discard Special Energy cards too including DRE, Heal, Warp, Scramble and Many more.

Part 2

Heavy Impact is just another attack name copied from another Pokemon, which is Dragonite d. It does 80 damage for FIVE energies, at least 1 Being Lightning and 1 Being a Metal type. 80 damage isn't worth it for 5 Energies, but it's the only good attack for Gyarados d, unless you plan to win the game wih Hyper Beam.

Weakness

A lightning type with weakness to Lightning, that's a little bit strange, even though it has been shown in other sets. Pidgeot d and Zapdos EX also has Lightning Weakness although it is a Lightning Type. Again, with the amazing numbers of people playing ZRE, and Zap-turn-dos, this card would be very dangerous to be played with.

Resistance

Gyarados d has no Resistance which means it has a good side and a bad side. Good thing is, it can Really prevent Damage increasing by attacks like Sky Kick or Vortex Chop.  Badside is, it can't ever reduce damage. Overall, having no Resistance is good.

Retreat Cost

Well, 2 Retreat Cost isn't Really a burden as it can be retrieved with Power Tree, Dragonite d and many other Cards. But for a Stage 1, it's kinda bad, but we should really appreciate it, cos' you won't wanna Compare it with Steelix EX or Wailord.

Done with Reviews,
That's a relief,
Next we go to combos and Gyarados's Strategies.

Golduck d

Golduck d's Poke-Body allows you to avoid your opponent from discarding your Holon Stadiums. That way, you can keep on accumulating damage without worrying about losing damage added.

Kabutops d

The fact that Kabutops d needs heaps of Energies to attack, Gyarados d can add damage to Kabutop's attacks, which lessens the amount of energy needed.

Well, those are the Combos,
Next are the Ratings,

Unlimited

Well, ever see Delta Pokemon in Unlimited? I don't think so. But it can be useful against Blastoise, Snorlax and Suicune EX.

3/10

Modified

With Kabutops d, Flygon d and many more, better take Gyarados into a count. More damage also means quick KO.

8/10

Limited

Well, no Multiple Proving Energies in the Holon Phantoms. Just have hope you get Metal and Flygon d to use this Effectively.

That's it for this Week's COTW. Hope to see you next time.

well, I'm not the biggest δ fan, but, whatever, here's the gyarados δ review
THE CARD
Lightning: well, seems like δ are lightning, so nothing special, many pokémon have weakness against it, but most of those are used as bench-sitters or techs.
90HP: good for a stage 1, it makes up for his bad basic.
poké-body: nice, can be really useful, and with 4 of those on your bench, even a golduck δ becomes almost unbeatable.
attack1: well, can be useful to slow down your opponent while charging for your second attack.
attack2: well, it sure needs a lot of energies, but 80 is decent.
W, R and RC: wow, weakness against itself, happens a lot in HP, it can be useful, but L is going to be played a lot, so this can really hurt. 2 retreat cost is not so much, but not good either

COMBOS
- Gyaraduck: just, keep holon stadiums in play
- damage: well, just do as much damage as you can using gyrados and strength charm
- Kapudos: Well, I haven't seen this anywhere, just do vital drain, but with a serious boost by all the gyarados, this way you can almost heal for sure

well, not much to say, it's poké-body isn't much of a help, and he's weak, and has a bad attacks and bad basics. so:
modified: 4/10: well, not many good holon stadiums and δ (yet)
limited: 8/10: not much to say here, many δs
unlimited: 1/10: why even bother

Hey guys, today’s COTW is Gyarados from EX: Holon Phantoms.  Now I’m not the biggest fan of Delta Species Pokemon, I don’t even really like them.  But you have to like this guy.  He’s just too cool to ignore.  Let’s take a closer look.

The Card:
HP:     90 HP is great for a Stage 1 non-EX Pokemon.  Not much else I can say.
His Poke-body is awesome, and can have more than one used at a time.  This means that Delta Reactor (His Poke-body), whenever a Stadium with Holon in its name is in play, for each Gyarados HP out there, that’s 10 more damage done by your Delta Pokemon.  So you could possibly be doing 40 more damage just by having some Pokemon out!
His first attack isn’t really that great.  First of all, Hyper Beam is supposed to be doing a lot more then 20 damage.  Second of all, a Metal energy to do 20 and flip a coin!  That just isn’t really that good.  But, if you are good at flipping coins, then it could be worth it, because if you get a heads, the Opponent has to discard energy.
His second attack, too, isn’t that great.  Now a solid 80 damage is awesome, and even better if you have a Holon Stadium out, because then it would do 90.  The problem is, is that it takes a Lightning energy, a Metal energy, and three Colorless energies to do so!  Now to me, that’s a little much.  I’d reduce it to maybe a Lightning, a Metal, and two Colorless energies.  It might be not that much of a difference to you, but trust  me, it does.
His Weakness is pretty easy to figure out.  What bugs me is the guy is “Delta Species.”  So to me, they should make him weak to whatever type he is, not what he used to be.  So I’d change it to Fire, not Lightning type.  But hey, it makes since from his “Previous” type.  He hasn’t got a Resistance, so I can’t really do any fixes there.
His Retreat Cost is 2, which seems a bit much to me.  Why?  Because this is a giant fish/dragon monster, that is supposed to be the “Terror of the Seas.”  Doesn’t that make it seem like it’s supposed to be a little fast?  That makes me want to reduce it down to 1, which seems reasonable to me.

Advantages:
The Advantages of this awesome card is that it has a great HP (90), and a Poke-body that makes you want to shout, “Holy canoly!”  Yes, that is how cool it could be.  The Poke-body, Delta Reactor, allows you to do 10 more damage, by just having out a Stadium card.  That’s pretty cool in my book.

Disadvantages:
Now anything that is under the “Attack” category falls into this list.  First of all he needs a Metal energy to even perform his attacks.  His first attack isn’t even very good.  Just does 20 and a 50% chance of discarding an energy.  That’s it.
His second attack takes 5 energies, including a Metal, to do a solid 80 with nothing else.  You know, that just doesn’t seem very good to me.  I’d rather make it have an effect like, “Flip a coin.  If heads your Opponent is now Paralyzed.”  Or something like that.
His Weakness is popular right now, plus it just doesn’t seem right to me, him being weak to Lightning, and being Lightning/Metal.
He also has a huge Retreat Cost for being Gyarados in my opinion, though it isn’t that bad, so I won’t go into any specifics.

Combos:

Primeape D/Gyarados D/Holon Stadiums:
Well the strategy is simple.  Put down a Holon Stadium, and do 10-40 more damage with Gyarados’ on the bench, and discard the Stadiums with Primeape d.

Gyaraduck:
Well basically Golduck d keeps the Holon Stadium in play, while Gyarados supplies 10-40 more damage.  Usually used with Exeggutor HP or something else like Primeape d.

Analysis:
Now then.  What would I do to make this card better?   Well, for starters, I would make him have better attacks.  First attack, I’d make it do 30, and be “Lightning, and Colorless energies.”  The Second, I’d make it have the same energies, just reduce the Colorless’ down to two.
I’d also change his Weakness to Fire, just because he’s Lightning/Metal.  It just doesn’t seem right for him to be weak to Lightning.
I’d also reduce his Retreat Cost down to one.  Nothing to fancy there, it just seems a little more logical since he is supposed to be the “Terror of the Seas.”

Overall:
Well, Gyarados HP is a good card, don’t get me wrong.  I just don’t see him making a major impact on the format right now, or in the future.  Here is my scores.

Limited/Draft: 6.5/10  It’s a solid card with a great Pokebody, but the only problem is that it needs Metal energies to attack.  But if you have the luxury of being supplied with them, then be my guest and go ahead and play him, since he’s one of the few Stage 1 Pokemon that can do a solid 80 damage.

Unlimited: 1/10  There’s not really even a need to bother.  He will get Energy Removal’d to death, and Vileplume EX shuts down his ability to use Stadiums to his advantage.  Plus way to many energies to attack. He’s just pretty much worthless here.

Modified: 5/10  He doesn’t really make much of an impact here, but is a great back-up in most any Delta Decks.  Doing 10 more damage is always nice, just make sure you use the TRR Magikarp with Call for Friends.  This’ll get you two more Basic Pokemon.

Well that’s it for Gyarados HP.  I hope you’ve enjoyed the article and see you next time!

Gyarados d

We shall review an atrocious dragon-type Pokemon which is called Gyarados d, from EX Holon Phantom, the newest expansion for Pokemon TCG.

ATTRIBUTES
Gyarados d is a dual type Pokemon which is composed of lightning/metal. You might ask “Why Gyarados is a lightning/metal type Pokemon, isn’t his actual type is water? The answer that I can really think of is since Delta Species and Holon Phantom was released, there are various funny types of Pokemon that has ‘Delta’ in its name are discovered. For example: Though Kingdra d is a fire type Pokemon but in fact, its actual type is water as well as Gyarados d. The weakness of Gyarados d and Gyarados are alike which is lightning. Gyarados d has a decent HP of 90. For me, 2 retreat cost is a bit high.

TRAINER CARDS/POKEMON THAT CAN BE PLAYED WITH /HELP OUT GYARADOS D
There are various Pokemon tools/ Pokemon that can really help Gyarados out in any severe situation. Though each Pokemon can have only 1 Pokemon tool attached to it at any time, but these cards really helped. Also, it depends on your metagame.

Protective orb
Protective orb is used to dispose of Gyarados’s terribly weakness. For instance, Deoxys (Speed) simply does 40 damage to Gyarados d and stall with other benched Pokemon and it only requires 1 lightning.

Crystal Shard
Pokemon that have resistance to lightning/metal such as Flygon d, HP Manectric, Articuno ex reduce Gyarados’s attack damage. I would recommend this card due to Gyarados d is a lightning/metal Pokemon. Moreover, Crystal Shard varies the Gyarados’s type into colorless type. This is good when you face dragon-type Pokemon such as Flygon d, Salamence, Rayquaza, and etc that weak to colorless type Pokemon.

Fluffy berry/switch/warp point
Gyarados d has 2 retreat cost. You are forced to discard 2 energies before retreat if Gyarados d is affected by special conditions.

Solid Rage
If you are an offensive deck player, I would like to introduce solid rage for you. Solid Rage does 20 more damages to your opponent’s defending Pokemon. But the condition is you must have more prize cards left than your opponent, or else, you can’t activate the effect. The fastest way to activate the effect is play it with Electrode ex.

Mewtwo d/ Electrode ex
For instance, when Gyarados is in bad condition, there are 4 metals attached to Gyarados d, if you are a wise player, you would find ways and means to save your energies, even Gyarados d is KO’d. Mewtwo d’s Delta Switch power is used to shift all energies attached to your Pokemon to your another Pokemon in any way you like. Electrode ex’s Energy Bomb also known as kamikaze tactic in order to save your energies, First of all, bomb Electrode ex and retrieve up to 5 energies and attach to any pokemon in any way you like, too.

Holon Research Tower
This card tends to convenient to Delta’s player. You don’t need to attach pure metal to Gyarados d in order to use its attack. As Holon Research Tower is a stadium card with Holon in its name, any of your Pokemon that has ‘Delta’ on its card does 10 more damage to the defending Pokemon. Refer to Gyarados’s Delta Reactor poke body.

ABILITIES
This time, I’ll go through Gyarados’s attack and poke-body one by one.

Delta Reactor
It’s beneficial if you play full delta deck. Be careful of Battle Frontier.

Hyper beam
Not bad but not as good as FRLG Gyarados ex’s Twister attack.

Heavy Impact 80
The energy cost is a bit high. 4 are enough, IMO. If you have any Holon Stadium in play or any complements attached to Gyarados d such as Strength Charm and Solid Rage, Heavy Impact can does more damage than its actual damage.

USES & COMBINATIONS
Golduck d
Delta Block poke-body will firm up your Holon Stadium in play in order to use Delta Reactor continuously so that your opponent can’t play any stadium cards from his/her hand to discard it.

RATINGS
Unlimited 1/5: vulnerable to SER2/ER.
Modified 4.5/5: It’s still a promising card, especially its poke body. Nowadays, players intend to play/invent combos that goes well with Gyarados d and that’s why we have Gyaraduck. Sometimes, adding 10 more damage is sufficient to KO a Pokemon.
Limited 2/5: In my estimation, as for HP expansion, 45.454545.... % out of 100% is Pokemon that has ‘Delta’ in its name including Holon Lake. The percentage of getting ‘Delta’ Pokemon is exceedingly high. I would rather let Gyarados d stay on the bench than attack.

That's all for my card review today. As usual, Feel free to criticize my article via PM/IM. Cheers.

Here is another card review from me. Today, I am going to review on Gyarados d from Holon Phantom. This both metal and lighting type pokemon is good in reducing damage because it get advantage from metal energy and holon energy GL. Gyarados d has a great 90 HP; on the other hand, weakness to lighting and two retreat costs are still not that bad to include this card in your deck. Next, Gyarados d has two attacks which are Hyper Beam and Heavy Impact. Hyper beam requires a metal and a colorless to attack. Discard energy is fantastic especially when you face with pokemon that needs discard energy to attack such as Typhlosion ex. Furthermore, I think get out a metal energy should not be a problem for you since there is d rainbow energy. Most of the time you will use hyper beam attack because Heavy Impact needs high energy cost. Heavy Impact requires five energies to attack. Yet, it does 80 damages, which can knock out a Blastoise ex in one blow. Lastly, Gyarados d’s poke body is the key that you should consider to built a deck around this card. Delta reactor poke body states that when there is a holon stadium card in play, your delta pokemon does 10 more damage to the defending pokemon. It is like a strength charm for every turn and the more Gyarados d in play, the more damage you can deal. In addition, you most likely will not worry to add 3 or 4 double rainbow energy in your deck since delta reactor will increase back the damage reduced.

Generally, you can build a deck with Gyarados d as your main pokemon or support pokemon. If you want to make a deck with Gyarados d as your main pokemon, get out energy out fast to use Heavy Impact will be your main goal. So, it can be combo with Boost energy, scramble energy and double rainbow energy. These energies provide you more energy so that you can deal high damage in early turn. Furthermore, attach two double rainbow energies to Gyarados d will not reduce the damage much since Gyarados d’s poke body will increase the damage back. Other than that, Gyarados d also works with Electrode ex and pow! Hand extension. When you blow up Electrode ex, you can search for energies in your discard pile and attach to Gyarados d. Then, use pow to gust up and knock out key pokemon such as Pidgeot or Blastoise ex. On the other hand, Gyarados d’s poke body helps him to become a good supporter, too. However, you only can have delta pokemon as your main pokemon. So, two interesting combos are Gyarados d with Flygon d or Gyarados d with Exeggutor d. First of all, Flygon d’s poke power allows you to attach an extra energy to delta pokemon, which helps you to charge up Gyarados d and Flygon d itself fast. Besides, delta reactor adds 10 more damage to Flygon d’s swift attack. So if you have two or three Gyarados d on bench, Flygon d does 80 or 90 damage every turn! Additionally, swift does not affect by resistance, metal or any effect on the defending pokemon. Thus, I think it is a potential deck to versus LBS deck. Moreover, Flygon d has resistance to Gyarados’s weakness (lighting) and Gyarados counters Flygon’s weakness, too (For your information, Pidgeot is the most popular colorless pokemon in current metagame). While for Exeggutor d and Gyarados d, the main focus is to max up your bench so that Exeggutor d can do maximum damage. Other than that, Golduck d and Chimecho d work in this deck, too. Golduck d is to keep holon gym in play while Chimecho d gets back energy after you use holon supporter.

Although Gyarados d is powerful, its pre-evolution, Magikarp is a problem. I mean a BIG problem. It is because 30 HP for a basic is too low for a basic pokemon. Othat than Magikarp can be knocked out easily, ATM rock is a big treat for players who play Gyarados d in their deck as well. Or else, it will be a powerful and playable pokemon in this metagame.

As a conclusion, Gyarados d is a good card. However, its pre-evolution and atm rock encourage players to have a second thought before they include Gyarados d in their deck. So I will give this card
1 out of 10 in unlimited;
7 out of 10 in limited; and
6.5 out of 10 in current format.
Well, that is all. See you next time. Cheers.

Card of the Week No.7

Gyrados d --- EX Holon Phantoms

Our seventh COTW begins now and this time around is Gyrados d from the most recent set EX Holon Phantoms.

Gyrados d is a Delta Species Pokemon and so has an unusual type combination. This one has the elements of Lighting and Metal. Lighting can be very useful in the current format with the likes of Zapdos EX, Blastiose EX, Pidgeot and many other potential threats all lurking about though there are a few who resist Lighting such as Metagross d, Steelix EX.
The Metal part of Gyrados d does not really affect it since hardly any Pokemon are Weak to Metal (Jynx comes to mind but it has a Power that cancels that out) or Resistant. The only really useful side of it is that Metal Energy can be used to increase Gyrados d’s defense with their effects and that can be really useful.

90 HP looks good, especially on a ST.1 but even though it is large, many hard hitting Pokemon used today can completely wipe out Gyrados d with over-powered attacks. Gyrados can easily withstand the early game but late game either it will be killing or something else will be killing it. It is an alright amount of HP in the end.

ST.1 is very useful since it is much effective against the Lock-type decks that are doing rounds at the moment because you only ever need to evolve once and you can therefore quickly recover.
Gyrados d evolves (as everyone of you should know) from the pathetic Magikarp and interestingly, even though it is a Delta Species it can evolve from ordinary Magikarps normally (this ruling applies to all Evolved Delta Pokemon). There are Magikarp in FRLG, TRR, DX and HP so you have a lot of choice. All have 30HP (as have all Magikarps since the beginning of the TCG) and a variety of attacks (thought most are insignificant). Of the lot I would pick then TRR one since you can use Call for Friends (W) search your deck for two Basics and put them onto the Bench, therefore saving you from an early defeat. The FRLG one is also good becase it has the evolutionary attack called Acension, but it costs (W)© and you would be in Magikarp form a turn longer and nobody wants that.

Delta Reactor is Gyrados d’s Poke-Body and it is rather good. So long as you have a Holon Stadium card in play each Delta Pokemon get a +10 attack bonus for every Gyrados d you have in play.
Multiple Gyrados result in higher bonuses so you would want to get them out fast by the likes of search cards (Celio's Network, Poke Ball, Elm’s Training) and other means like Delta Call (Holon Lake) and search Powers like Magcargo and Pidgeot.
It can all add up very nicely though you may have some trouble getting all those Gyrados into play as well as that it would take up a lot of Bench space.
Many Delta Species Pokemon can make best use of this Body like Flygon d, Exeggutor d, Golduck d and the soon-to come Delta Pokemon EX Sceptile EX d and Charizard EX d. It is difficult to use and more will be shown in the combo section. Great Stadiums to use include Holon Research Tower and Holon Lake.

The first attack is Hyper Beam which does 20 damage for (M)© and can allow to flip a coin, if heads, an Energy card is discarded from the defending Pokemon. If you ask me this is an absolutely terrible attack and should be doing at least 30-40 damage and Hyper Beam is supposed to be a very powerful attack not some weak start up move. Avoid using Gyrados d for this. Coin flips don’t always work anyway.

The second move however is know as Heavy Impact (last seen on Dragonite d) and sort of makes up for Hyper Beam’s terrible stats. For (L)(M)©©© you can do 80 damage a turn straight on without any negatives.
This is alright and can become very powerful with Delta Reactor though a base of 80 for five Energy, two of which are of different elements is rather overpriced and slows Gyrados d decks down a lot and therefore ways are need to bypass this. It is not a bad as Hyper Beam thankfully.

Weakness is Lighting. And Gyrados d is part of special group of Pokemon that are Weak to their own element (outside of Psychics). Lighting weakness is shared by Zapdos EX as well. Many Lighting Pokemon are going on right now especially ZRE, Metanite/Metro, Mewtric and many more. It is a very dangerous type to be weak to and I doubt it will be getting better in the 2006-2007 season with Pokemon Charizard d make big promise to hit the scene big.

There is no Resistance and no Resistance is the worst Resistance so the bottom stats are not look too good for Gyrados d with it have a terrible Weakness and no Resistance. I would at least expect to see Fighting/Water here.

And the Retreat Cost…©©. Not bad and at least it is payable. But you would want to pay it either since two Energy got can be a much bigger loss than first expected, especially when your main attack is five Energies in.

Combos

Most of the combos here are to benefit or increase the effects of Delta Reactor, speed up the attack process of Heavy Impact or both.

Golduck d is a definite candidate for a good combo since when you play a Holon Stadium, your opponent cannot play anymore Stadiums to replace it with. Very good and can ensure that Delta Reactor can have a long lasting effect. It has a good, powerful attack that can disrupt your opponent’s hand and do great damage with Delta Reactor.

Flygon d is a combo for it’s ability to attach multiple Energies to Gyrados d (so you can use Heavy Impact quicker). It also has the neutral Swift attack that can benefit from Delta Reactor to do great damage.

Electrode EX is also good for powering up Heavy Impact and this combo can work rather well with Pow! Hand Extension and Rockets Admin. Though I believe that Electrode EX is better suited for other Pokemon such as Metagross d.

Kabutops d. A combo here works with a Kabutops as the main attacker and multiple Gyrados ds on the bench providing great power to Kabutops. It is slow though since Kabutops d is also ST.2 without Strange Cave/Holon Fossil and it work better with Electrode EX and not Gyrados d.

Fearow d is coming in Crystal Guardians but I thought that I would mention it anyway since it has the lovely Power of searching your deck for a Delta Pokemon and placing it in your hand. It makes getting multiple Gyrados d easy and can quickly raise attack power with Delta Reactor.

Overall

Sadly, my conclusion here is that Gyrados d is not a hugely good Pokemon to play. It has over priced attacks and a Poke-Body which is need to make a fuss over to use. It can be alright and work well with a few, but in the end it is mediocre and not up to the standards of the bigger decks roaming the metagame at this present time. Perhaps in the 2006-2007 season…

Unlimited: 1/10 Terrible. It will get Energy Removaled like crazy and Sneasel here can do more damage than Heavy Impact on T2 for two Energy. Most of Gyrados d’s support is lost as well thanks to Muk and Slowking.

Modified: 6/10 Too average and even though it has a few combos, they are not really worth a huge much anyway. It may come into its own in time but not now. It is outclassed by too many things…

Draft: 7.5/10 It is quite good here. Chunky ST.1 with plenty of Power make for a good assult. The cost of Heavy Impact lets it down a bit.

This review was brought to you by Veyatii Xeras.

I see a combo with primeape d. Heavy Impact is a rare attack, since you don't need to discard energy cards. Hyper beam is good, but for discarding energy, leave it to Blastoise ex. Poke-body is good, and as I said before I see a combo with primeape d. Wreck discards a stadium and does more damage, and then it could do even more. Or also add Strength Charm or Solid Rage. With Gyrados's poke-body, possibilitys are endless. 90 HP sucks. It's weakness is confounded, because a lot of delta pokemon are lightning type. No resistance is bad, and it's retreat cost is fairly bad. Muk ex and Mt. Moon would ruin almost every combo possible. So that's my review, even though I am not a pokebeach strategist or ever was.
