Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XI

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Post here saying that you want to enter and you’ll be accepted. The cap for entries is slated at twenty contestants per round, and signups will end as soon as that number has been met, the deadline for entries has passed, or the thread sits for several days without any new entries (during which private submissions may be accepted via PM to me).

2.) Participation simply requires entrants to write a haiku (a poem with the alternating “Five-Seven-Five Syllables” per line format) or a similar length short poem and post it here as an entry, though submitting them via PM or Profile Message to me is fine too. All poems are due by Thursday, January 12, 2012 and voting begins once the deadline has passed or all entries are made. Submissions are final, but if I feel that a poem should be revised slightly, I will do it with the writer’s consent.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round). This contest’s theme is New Year’s Resolutions or New Year Outlooks.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Everyone will be allowed to vote for up to three of their favorites. All participants are required to vote; however, you are not allowed to vote for your own (if I catch you doing so, you’ll be docked a point).

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

I literally can't hold off on this any longer, so I'm bumping it to get it started.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

I'm in.

I will have mine in later.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

I want to join the contest!
Mine will be sent to you later.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

And, updated. So long as I receive it before next Thursday (Jan. 12th), it'll count. You have plenty of time to get it in, though.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

Here.

Title is "No Resolve"

New Year's resolutions
are hasty decisions, and
never last for long.

Sue me, I'm boring.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

Resolve
See a rolling stone
Gather no moss, yet see it
Obtain a polish!

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

I'll be in. I want to win first place this time. :)

Decisions
It's that new year again-
What should I gain by this?
To reach my promise's peak, of course!

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

I'm resolving to
End war, poverty, hunger
And resolutions

I know its meh, but it seemed a shame to have a haiku and not enter it.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

Horizons
The horizon breaks,
A new and glorious dawn.
The new age begins.

Hmmm, I can't seem to do anything without making it sound like it came straight out of a fantasy.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

Updated! Hopefully I got everything squared away until I have to update again. If I made a mistake somewhere in the OP, let me know ASAP so I can fix it.

RE: Haiku/Short-Poem Contest XI

My brother (Alvin SubClause) wants me to try this. I'm up for it.

To Define

Acknowledge your weaknesses
To highlight problems.

I shall enter.

I have to be honest, darkpoet... I'm really iffy about allowing this one since I have a difficult time trying to figure out how it really ties into either of the New Year's themes. I guess I let it slide, but if anyone complains, you'll have to submit something else.
