Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XVI

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Signups will again be based on the order in which submissions are made, meaning that all entries are to be made upfront (either here or via PM to me). The limit for entries is again set at fifteen participants. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be swapped out for something else or altered in any way.

2.) Submissions are expected to be haiku-style short poems (those with a “five-seven-five” syllable format spread out across three lines). However, other types of short poems will be accepted so long as they are no less than two lines and don’t exceed four lines in length. New entries will be accepted until Wednesday, March 21, 2012 around noon, until all slots have been filled, or the thread sits several days without new entries.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round). This contest’s theme is Pain or Anguish.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Everyone will be allowed to vote for up to three of their favorites. All participants are required to vote; however, you are not allowed to vote for your own (if I catch you doing so, you’ll be docked a point).

*Rules, timescales, and other parameters are subject to change without notice.

Entry List (Title/Author Set-up)

1.) Agony (By [member]Ice Arceus[/member])
Suffering through agony
with recurring misery
enclosing total bliss.

2.) Elaborate (By [member]Zyflair[/member])
Describe my bled soul?
Only blades could testify.
Hollow words fall short.

3.) Fallen (By [member]Lucky Fire[/member])
I float over my fallen body,
Out of a war of bloody vengeance,
And yet both hurts deep,
To a peril of bleeding.

4.) Pain is A Game (By [member]The Yoshi[/member])
Pain is a weird game,
it is funny how it works,
where mercy is strained.

5.) Loss (By [member]The Fallen One[/member])
The grip of despair,
Will claim the depths of my soul,
I am nothing now.

6.) Pain is Very Free (By [member]CJBlazerX86[/member])
Pain is very free
It comes and goes with time
but rarely stays.

7.) Anguish (By [member]Argetlam[/member])
When my soul is torn apart
Ripped to pieces by rejection
The only glue is love.

8.) Otulp's Credo (By [mod]Incinermyn[/mod])
The excrutiating pain
And trauma from eras past
Resides in me, forevermore.

Here is my entry. This ought to be a good topic for me.

but rarely stays.

So, during which time will voting close? It's already Saturday. But it's only a friendly reminder. ;)

I haven't had internet access at all today because I was helping my dad repair our work truck. Just know that I can only get to things on my own time, so if voting runs long again in the future, it only means I've suddenly gotten busy.

Final Results
1st Place-Zyflair's "Elaborate" with five points
2nd Place-TFO's "Loss" and my poem "Otulp's Credo" with four points apiece
3rd Place-Ice Arceus' "Agony" with two points

Disqualified for not voting: Argetlam and CJBlazerX86

Twice in a row? Since the ninth contest, the only winners consist of me, Apollo, and TFO. x3

I've seen some nice entries around here, so I'm sure it won't last long. Congrats to all the winning entries and participants. See you next time.

Off-Topic: Well, the good news is that we did get a much-needed radiator on our vehicle and it's back in running condition.

Back on topic: I'm surprised anybody voted for my poem this round, given that I just wrote it as a filler again and I'm not even sure if it makes sense given it's about one of my Fakemon (who's heralded as the embodiment of fear). In any case, second place is nice. Congrats on your win, Zy!

Congrats Zyflair, TFO, and Incinermyn. I enjoyed reading everyone's Haiku/Short-Poem.

Looking forward to the next round.
