Biweekly Haiku & Short-Poem Contest XXV

Rules and Entry Information

1.) Signups will again be based on the order in which submissions are made, meaning that all entries are to be made upfront (either here or via PM to me). The limit for entries is again set at fifteen participants. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be swapped out for something else or altered in any way.

2.) Submissions are expected to be haiku-style short poems (those with a “five-seven-five” syllable format spread out across three lines). However, other types of short poems will be accepted so long as they don’t exceed four lines in length. New entries will be accepted until Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 around noon, until all slots have been filled, or the thread sits several days without new entries.

3.) Each poem for the contest must follow the selected theme for the competition. Due to artist’s having different interpretations of ideas, no haiku will be disqualified for writing about divergent topics so long as the theme is tied in somehow (if it isn’t, then you will be disqualified for the duration of this round); however, please note that poems posted with intent to troll or written up stupidly will be disqualified automatically. This contest’s theme is Anniversaries.

4.) Voting will run for three days and be open to all members of PokéBeach. Everyone will be allowed to vote for up to three of their favorites. If more than eight entries are submitted, then participants may vote for their own poem. However, if less are entered, then they may not and a point will be deducted from the score of anyone who does so.

*Rules, timescales, and other parameters are subject to change without notice.

Entry List (Title/Author Set-up)

1.) On This Day (By [member]Lucky Fire[/member])
My first year of Pokebeach;
Within these breaches
Is only a member's very first year!

2.) Older (By [member]Kecleon-X[/member])
Great joy fills the air;
People sing and jump for joy.
Pokebeach is nine!

3.) Nothingness (By [member]Boddy[/member])
A bleak and empty silence accompanies the day
365 days, 52 weeks, 525,949 minutes
Three years pass, and you still have not seen peace
A death that no one remembers

4.) {Waves And Wind} (By [member]Grumpigfarmer[/member])
Time never stands still,
It moves with the waves and wind,
Forever alive.

5.) Reflecting (By [member]Zyflair[/member])
Looking a ways back,
We remember the good days,
Living them once more.

6.) [ A Little Poem That Could ] (By [member]Dark Giratina[/member])
Registered in Jan.,
You spent your time in the forum,
and then PokéBeach's birthday came,
you realize you're only 6 months from your registration date.

7.) Recollection (By [member]Ice Arceus[/member])
Cherished memories
flood the mind, reminiscing
the momentous day.

8.) Subtle Recognition. (By [mod]Serperior[/mod])
A memory wakes.
Rousing it causes a smirk.
'Til next year, it sleeps.

[End Point]

This round is open for submissions. Updates will be made Mondays and Wednesdays as usual, or whenever I have wi-fi access.

Final call for entries. I'll leave this open for submissions for another hour (5:00PM Central Daylight Time), but then I'll have to start voting.

The poll is up! All participants should vote this round since we got a few entries less than I was expecting.

Sorry for the delay. Without further adieu, the results are as follows: Serperior came in first with a staggering eight-point victory, Zyflair came in second with six, while Boddy and Grumpigfarmer tied for third with five points apiece.

Oh I forgot to vote in all the free time I had. D:

Congrats to everybody that continues to take part in the future contests!

Darn. Needed one more vote to tie with Zy.

Good going, Serperior. You have an awesome writing style, and I'll be looking forward to competing with you again.

Don't feel bad. I forgot about this until right before bed last night. :/
