Has the MD-On Metagame become Stagnant?

One thing I'm noticing lately about the Pokemon TCG is that with the current rotation system being Majestic Dawn-On it sorta feels like there's only 6-7 playable decks in the metagame:

Charizard, Sablelock (or Sableye variants), Jumpluff, Kingdra, Gengar/Vileplume, Entei/Raikou LEGEND variants, and LuxChomp. Not a whole lot is there? :/

You got one Pokemon that's going to be legal for 1 more season before it rotates out being Stormfront Gengar while the decks being played in MD-On that has a chance of survival for at least 2 seasons are Charizard, Sablelock, and Jumpluff.

LuxChomp is only going to be around for one more season before Platinum Base Set rotates out next year after Worlds 2011 which means that SP decks will finally die out by then when the Black & White sets are around in the metagame.

Now granted there were more playable decks in DP-On however with the lacklusterness that was HS Undaunted it didn't really leave alot of room for ingenuity and creativity cause there was less synergy with cards to build good decks off of and the power creep of the game has died down drastically since the release of HeartGold & SoulSilver Base Set.

BlastiGatr isn't as good MD-On as it was DP-On with the loss of Claydol hurting it and you also get slower setups with Uxie Lv. X but that might change once we get Magnezone Prime next set and it will be our final HGSS LEGENDS set before Black & White Base Set is released.

You know what I say? MD-On moar liek SP-On MIRITE

Serious part so it doesn't get marked as spam: I'm sure there will be other decks, and even in the "SP" archetype there are several decks that could do well; they just all use the same engine. Charizard is good, Jumpluff is good, Donphan is good, that new Vile-tomb lock is looking good, Gengar Prime, Machamp SF and his Prime/Level X, Sablelock, and a bunch of other rogue decks I think could all be contenders.

Well you can't argue that Gengar/Vileplume is getting alot of hype right now and it's actually worth it with how effective Allergy Pollen works with Poltergiest so well.

But a simple Dialga G Lv. X tech can take care of it with Time Crystal.

I agree with most of the above, but we don't know what the metagame will be like yet considering there is still a few sets left that need to be released before we can decide on anything.

There is no metagame. For every good deck, there are 2 more ones that are bad. Some of the bad ones happen to be the hyped ones, but there will definetly be some winners coming out of the City tournaments. There could be some surprises. I know that decks like Miasma Wind Leafeon and VileGar are being hyped, but perhaps those won't be our winners? Who knows. We'll have to see how things play out. Generally, after testing, this format is becoming a bit more build intensive than the last few. You NEED to have very good builds to make it. I personally like that. Perhaps, because you are testing many decks before making your assumtions (YOU ARE, AREN'T YOU?), you're using some poor builds of the decks. I've found that I need other people to build my charizard, jumpluff, and luxchomp decks for me to test against.

Once again, it is still far too early to tell. Also, don't complain about having a 6-7 deck metagame. In 2008 worlds, we had a 2 deck and everything else metagame. It was primarily EmpoZong, Gardylade, and everything else.

No the metagame is not stagnant. It really isn't, there are a LOT of decks to choose from(if you want stagnant go to 2008 or 2004) I mean there is a lot that can happen, sure LuxChomp has been good but even w/ it's dominance most didn't consider it BDIF for the whole year
Autumn BR's- don't count these, really odd period as there were the worlds decks and the new stuff.
Cities-Most in my area agreed it was DialgaChomp.
States-LuxChomp
Regionals-People seemed to change over to LuxPluff.
Spring BR's- LuxChomp
Nationals-LuxChomp
Worlds-Garchomp SV got hyped a bit, but still LuxChomp.

All i'm saying is someone will find a way to crush the metagame it happens almost every year w/out fail.
2010-Sablelock
2009-Gyarados
2008-.....okay fine.
2007-Absolutions
2006-I didn't play.
2005-Queendom
2004-Team Magma and anti blaziken decks.
Look at some point some random deck will become meta and good it happens a lot, so please stop thinking it's stagnant, you can't say anything unless you played in 2004 or 2008 and well based on this post you didn't.

Nobody seems to remember Donphan. He is still a great card. Donking abilty, good heft, awesome Pokebody, why does everyone forget him?

This is why I play rouge/novelty decks and them only.

I can't stand seeing the same decks over and over again, and I'll agree, it seems most people are using the same things over and over. Gee, look at the world championships and any other tourney. Luxchomp everywhere.
Yes, it works. But it's boring and to be honest, if everybody plays the same decks at our Battle Roads I don't know if I'll want to participate in such tourneys. It's BORING.

Maybe I'm just complaining because I believe there should be some more creativity in the game and people are just playing the same copy pasted decks to win...Actually yes, I am complaining.

I'd rather see people win with a bunch of different decks.
The metagame bores me. I take no part in it yet.

Edit:
Oh, Garchomp C and Luxray GL Lvl X everywhere. They're not always together but I'm sick of seeing them.

I'm not ok with the concept of "meta-game" to begin with, so I'd have to not care about this subject. Even with Rotation, the game is still playable, and is meant for FUN. If talking about the Meta is what makes it fun for you, sure, go ahead, have fun playing boring decks. Just don't shove it down us non-caring people's throats.

That being said, I play decks no one seems to care about, so I'd have to say the game is just as fun to play as usual. (Also Glaceon Lv X is still legal past rotation so EFF YEAH.)

If it hasn't become stagnant then what's going on? It just seems like there's less card synergies thus you have inconsistent decks with cards that work good together but has no good synergy with eachother whatsoever.

My main complaint isn't about decks being boring or netdecks, it's about the lack of card synergies to make for fun decks in the first place. HS Undaunted doesn't have very many playable cards compared to past sets that have been released however there's hope that the next set will make up for it somehow.

I didn't make this thread to bash people who don't netdeck at all, this isn't what it's about. It's one thing to be creative with a deck but to not have synergy with other cards that "spark" that creativity or combo off of eachother, that usually ends up leading to not fulfilling what the deck was designed to do.

7 usable decks at the start of a season isn't bad, as has been mentioned in a previous post we've had seasons start with just 1 or 2 good decks then they get ousted by the end of the following season.

wait to see what the next few sets bring to the game before starting to cry, our next set most likely will bring us the lost zone card set that is being highly rated and dominating over in Japan so thats at least 2 more decks there plus rogue variants.

All in all the format isn't stagnant once BR's start we'll all notice a huge change in the game i'm sure no-one wants to see a complete Luxchomp metagame and plenty of people will try to find ways to counter it.

There is no metagame yet. There has been 0 tournaments and the only way you can see what is being used is from league, and people from league change decks frequently.

Seven decks is a great variety. It's for sure too early to tell what a meta will look like. The only thing I'm slightly upset about is, to me, MD-on seems a bit slower. Darn you Claydol. Darn you.

Claydol had to go. Claydol was just causing problems. Now, with this new format, we can expect to see slower decks that enjoy the game. Sure Luxchomp will still run rampant, but we can see newer decks that are actually fun. I still get pleasure out of playing Donphan.

7 decks?
7?

7 of the same thing over and over with little variation?
I'd expect much more out of a game with this many cards in the current rotation.

If there is 7 decks, and 4-5 rounds in a BR, you most likely wont see the same deck that much.

I agree with the thoughts about the Meta game not being solidified yet. It's still in progress as we near Autumn BR.

As regards with the lack or variation. Lets not start this whole nonsense about not having a variety in the game. Yes the game is played for fun, but tournaments are different (most of the time). I like playing a game and losing. I don't like going 1-4 at every tournament I go to because I decided not to use good decks (which make up the metagame). Ask any OP here who plays meta game decks at tournaments and they will tell you they have at least one, if not more, "fun" deck (s) they mess around with for laughs. playing with a variety of cards is OK for league, but when it comes to tournaments and fighting the metagame, then players use what works.

Again I repeat... losing is fun (sometimes), but going 5-0 in prize count and going 1-4 or 0-5 in every BR, Citys, States, Regionals, etc.. is NOT fun.
