Has the TCG gotten more expensive lately?

$4.75. I recently found a hobby store who sells them for $3.90.
If I bought packs, I would be all over 3.90 for one. That sounds really nice.

Packs are $3.00 at the League I go to. <3

I think the TCG has only gotten slightly more expensive, a lot of the good T/S/S/ values pretty much rose overnight. (Bianca $1.00 to $2.00, Catcher $12 to $15, Juniper $1.00 $3.00, ect.) I don't think many of the EXs have reached $20 or above yet besides the Full Arts.

Around states, you would be lucky to find a mewtwo below $50.
It was lucky for where I was to find one under 60. That card used to be broken, and the prices were out the roof. When Mewtwo was first released and was 75 FA, if gold wasn't at such a high price at that time, Mewtwo would be worth its weight in gold. I did the math. Oh god.

As far as Packs go, they've gottem far worse in pricing. Old man voice "Back in my day, a pack after tax cost the same as a pack without it today!!"

I remember when I could buy packs at $2.25 a piece, and was in shock when the price rose to $2.50.

Lol I love seeing these threads.
Brb paying $6.00 a booster pack
Brb paying $20 for a blister
Brb paying $150 for a booster box
Try collecting while living in Australia. Not to mention we don't get half of the promo packs you do in the US, and there's more money and time gone with shipping.
I would be stoked if I had access to cards at the same availability and price that players and collectors in the US do.

Come down to Melbourne, we are a little better, we sell almost everything slightly cheaper than over there in Perth plus we have a larger player base :)P). But yeah, Come down to Aus, the competitive players spend buckets of cash because there aren't many ways to get cards (I only know of two stores down in Melbourne that sell singles). You guys pay 125-200 for a deck we pay 175-250 for ours :(

I'm from Melbourne actually, and I visit there quite frequently. Should bring my deck next time :p
But yeah, it does get expensive down here. The player base is growing though thankfully, meaninging we're actually starting to get player rewards cards and such. We actually have a pre-release for the first time ever coming up!

In Sweden packs cost 5,7 dollars in the cheaper card stores. But up to 8,5 dollars at some toystores -__- Want a booster box? Only know one swedish store who sells them and they cost 170 dollars, NOT including shipping. Most players import booster boxes from UK, but thats still 137 dollars after shipping. :/

Yeah, I always sit and stare at the monitor in amazement when threads like this pop up.

As my fellow Aussies have pointed out, buying cards in Australia is a somewhat painful process.

Game stores don't tend to sell Pokemon cards as singles as the primary market here is for MtG.

If I wander down to my LGS, I will pay 6 bucks for a booster pack, $30 for a tin or $160 for a box.

What I am sick of, is that when the AUD is at parity with the USD, as it is at the moment (or near enough, I haven't got the exchange rate in front of me), we still pay more for product than most places... But I know this is or two reasons... 1) We have a smaller gaming population than the US for example and 2) It's the best beaches tax :D

In reply to the op i actually thing the tcg has actually never been cheaper. With the tins out the price of decks has gone down significantly being that those 3 are what you pretty much see all over the competitive side. That and DRE is a fairly inexpensive set. Most EXs are 10-12 dollars if you know where to get them. Hydreigon and chomp are down to 7 and i have a plig on garbodors for 2. Even catcher has gone down a couple bucks. It really is just the process in which you get your cards. I will trade my cards for higher value cards and whatnot and eventually i get the cards i need. Catcher is just a staple and its is expensive. Thats the way it is but i have found the tcg to be pleasantly inexpensive lately

That's nothing. You guys are already quite lucky IMHO. From where I come from, we get packs for $4 ea (converted to USD) and theme decks for $20 (also converted to USD). :<

Well you shouldn't even be buying theme decks in the first place...

Hmm, I haven't really compared Pokemon to the other TCG's out there, but I can say that, overtime, the cards generally start out expensive, but become cheaper overtime with Promos and such! That price drop on Darkrai EX and Mewtwo EX counted for a whole lot! That with 4 booster packs and a Tin? I think that's quite fine :).

It also depends on location. Some places sell cards pretty high like K-Mart. I bought a deck there once and it was $4.00 more expensive than Fred Meyer or Walmart XD. It also varies from state to state province to province and country to country XD.:)
