Has TPCI stopped caring about the way they produce cards?

Do you agree with me on this?

Yeh, but there is no reason a player should have to do that with a card that they just pulled, when they may be intending to deck it ASAP. Plus, I've flattened these holo, then they just warp again. Sure you can fix it, but something brand new shouldn't need to be fixed the second you get it. It is unacceptable, they have proven they can print card that stay flat, so them not continuing to do so is just blowing off anyone who buys their card, hopeful this will be an issue that is fixed in our next set.

contact them about it, have scans ready, or in that case, a camera to show it's curvature by itself, and curvature in a sleeve in a deck perhaps.

it's worth a shot.

I'll keep you guys posted about what they offer to fix it. they may just send me sleeves since I mentioned that the wear on the edges and me using clear sleeves is why it's an issue for me, but any free stuff is welcome =)

Well, I know that this issue had happened to many, including myself. Hopefully next set will be better.

One weird thing I noticed about the holos in the B&W set is actually the BACK of the card. If you feel the back of a holo B&W card versus any other card, you can tell that the back side feels... grainier, maybe? It's just not as smooth. It's definitely distinct enough to tell a holo vs. a non-holo just by feel. While I've felt some B&W holos that have the smoother backs, most of the ones I've felt have had that texture difference.

also ive noticed...with the RH's and holos in BW the backs are darker. doing the 123, 12 thing with my box the holos and RH were darker than the others maybe just slightly but still...

viper, what's your opinion on using an exacto knife on american B/W cards to expose the holo on the card borders so they match the japanese cards? if done slowly enough (about 7 minutes per short edge and 12 pwe long edge) it looks good IMO.

I would love to see photos of these 'modified' cards!

As would I! I personally think the idea is really cool, especially if the end result is really nice. I should try this sometime for fun, and see if having the border lets me enjoy them more than I do now and their barely-there holo on just the BG.

I would like to see that too. Does anyone know if theres a video explaining how to do it, or carlitosbob could you make one so we can see how to do it?

Well that sure is a nice effect. Not a clean finish there, but a quick test on a test card (ergo not trying to be 100% neat but simply seeing the effect first hand) before bed to see how the card would hold up to being "shawn".

Cool, I don't know if that would be tounament legal though... It's altering the card, which was disputed at nats '09 when people were drawing on their cards and coloring the borders. What is the exact technique used though, because it would be nice to try

Oh it'd totally be illegal for tourney use because TPCI are extremely tight regarding that sort of stuff.

Basically was just a take a knife to it sort of job. I used a tanto tip (flat tip) and angled it so the edge of the blade would shave the card. Back and fourth motion, some patience, and viola.

Ok thanks. I should do it to some holos and bring it to Origins(because I live 5mins away, so mad they moved nats from here =P) and see if anyone would want to buy them. Might be able to make some money off of them

yeah, just ddo it lightly. If you press too hard you will peel the holo off of the card. Use a flat blde cuz a curved one will make you miss the mark and shave into the card art or something, and will cause the holo to peel easier too.

the *'s are just me blocking out the ticket #'s.

I take this as good news, anyone else contact tpci? Anyone else wanting to contact them now for future issues? They ask for a scan of the ard and a scan of your receipt (my guess is to prove that it's not like a month old card or something)

Screen Cap

What email address did you send it to?

I just finished doing it to a Krocodile(for practice) and then a Zekrom! Both turned out well. One thing I found is pressing down with the knife and taking a long stroke from the top twards your self in repetition work really well and leaves less yellow behind

I'm working on "shaving" a Reuniclus. It leaves a bunch of yellow spots, so I'm trying to figure out how to make it look neater. I'll scan if I can get it looking nice.
