Hey man, whatever you do,do not but either an Undaunted or a Rising Rivals box.
Other than that, it pretty much depends on what deck you want to get cards for.
Want a Kingdra Donk? Unleashed.
Want DialgaChomp, or most of the SP engine for another deck? Platinum.
I just recently bought a Platinum box and I wasn't dissappointed. I reccomend that.

HGSS might not be a good idea because half the Primes are available in tins and Donphan is the only worthy Prime that is not in a tin. Lugia LEGEND is terrible and Ho-Oh LEGEND is decent. So HGSS may not be the best set to buy a box from.
But there's tons of good Supporters/Trainers in HGSS =\ Sure the Primes aren't very good (or at least half of them) but you get PokeComm, PokeCollector, Ninetales HGSS, DCE, the awesome looking Energies, Slowking (arguably, can be used as disruption tech???), etc etc...
However, UD does have Vileplume, Smeargle, Legend Box, TRT (arguably again lol), Energy Exchanger, Scizor Prime...and that's it =(
And as a previous poster already said, you could just get HGSS, and trade some cards from that box for the cards you really need from UD.

Seriously, why another of these 'which box should i buy' thread?
definately HGSS. undaunted in my mind is one of the worst sets in a while with bad primes (other than scizor) and only being 90 cards. HGSS has lots of good trainers/supporters along with donphan prime so i would go for that one for sure. also SF and LA are good choices.

Personally, I'd buy a Platinum box, because of the whole SP engine, but after that, (and a part of your question
) I'd buy HeartGold SoulSilver because of all the staples and popular cards (Jumpluff, Donphan Prime, Pokemon Collector, Pokemon Communication, DCE, etc.) But, if you're patient, wait for the set with Gengar Prime and Lost world. Those will be very pricey upon release.

Yes, I read through that guide. I am probably going to buy a Platinum Box, but if I can't find one then i'll by a HGSS box. Thx for the info, though.
