RSE/FRLG Help Beating Norman

i just cant beat him! no matter what i do. this is my team:
marshtomp 30
bashfull
tackle
bide
mud shot
water gun

seviper 30
mild
poison tail
lick
crunch
glare

swellow 30
hardy
wing attack
qiuck attack
double team
peck

i also have an untrained skarmory lvl 16 and zigzagoon as my HM slave. what can i do to beat him?

skarmory is 16 and marshtomp, seviper, and swellow are all lvl 30
marshtomp is bashfull
seviper is mild
swellow is hardy
skarmory is naughty

Level up your Marshtomp, preferably to 37 so it learns Muddy Water. Don't evolve at 36.

My advice: get a Fighting type and TRAIN. Also, make sure it knows Protect to make short work of Slaking(if the TM is available at this point).

ok. should i train skarmory at all? will it be any use?
i'll try to find a fighting.. maybe the makuhita(sp?) from the trade in rustboro

sp means an unsure spelling.

"Makuhita" is correct.

A good idea to use against Norman's Slaking is to send out a joke Pokemon (slave) on the turn Slaking attacks. That way, you're ensured a hit.

Also, Norman's special move is Focus Punch, and his Slaking love to use it. By hitting them, they waste their turn.

Back in the beginning Norman was a tough one for me, especially on Nuzlocke. My advice is basically to grind out some levels, because it might not be feasible. One you learn Surf or Muddy water and can take 2-3 of any of his Pokemon's attacks you should be good with some healing stuff. To train, battle every single person in all the rooms, should raise you a level or two. Then you either need to go somewhere to train, or keep facing Norman and getting EXP until you can beat him.

Grinding levels here has a snowball effect, and will help you against future leaders, etc.

Oh yeah, another tip:

Save your game before you do this.

Buy tons of X Defends and healing items (Super Potions if you can buy them from Rustboro City, X Defs are there too). Go fight Norman.

Every turn, use an X Defend, healing when necessary. Pretty soon your Defense will be so high he won't be able to touch you. I had to do this for my Chikorita solo runs in Silver and HeartGold, so it oughta work for you.

The reason you save before you shop is just in case it _doesn't_ work, you don't blow your cash.

thanks guys, i think i'll train them all to lvl 35ish and then use some x defends


i beat him!!!!! wooohooo!!!!! thanks to a very nicely placed crit. hit on his last slaking. thanks for all of the help

Norman was breeze for me. Try this out.

Machoke: Lvl 34
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Guts
Attacks:
~Krate Chop/Cross Chop
~Strength
~Bulk Up
~Rock Tomb/Secret Power

Vibrava: Lvl 35
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Levitate
Attacks:
~Sand Attack
~Bite/Faint Attack
~Dragon Breath/Sand Tomb
~Hidden Power

These two managed to handle Slaking easily and took care of Vigoroth in a snap.

Also, in addition to the X items, teach Protect to one of your attackers, then use it when Slaking attacks, then use an X item when Truant kicks in.

If you have access to it Embargo is also a great move since Norman won't be able to heal his team with items.
