In my pokemon heartgold, I'm trying to catch raikou, but I can't! I throw ultra balls, dusk balls when it's nightime, tried to put it to sleep, and weared down it's Hp until it was in the red zone, But it keeps coming out of the pokeballs and runs away! Could someone please tell me how to catch it easily without it running away? This problem has been stressing me for the past 5 months! please help! =(

1) Go to eBay
2) Buy an Action Replay
3) Find a code that gives you perfect catch rate
4) Catch Raikou
ALTERNATELY, you cold keep trying and trying for months.
$20 or a few months of work. It's just two ways to catch a Raikou.

Try using Quick balls when you first encounter it, that worked for me.
You can also try using Level Balls. Just bring a higher level Pokemon.
You're going to have to try multiple times in order for it to work.

@Scizorliscious: you nub, it doesn't take months

The key is persistence; you just need to keep trying. Dusk Balls will give you a 4x if you do it at night, so you could play your game only at night when catching them and just pelt the things. Or, if it's already in the red, pelt a Quick Ball.
You may want to bring a Wobbuffet and/or a Pokemon with Mean Look to improve your odds.

I made my decision! I'm going to keep trying! I weared raikou down to 1 HP and i have a golbat that knows Mean look. :D Thank you guys for the advice! :p

Persistence is key when it comes to catchin this guy. Use mean look, freeze/put him to sleep, wear him down and keep throwing them pokeballs.

@Dark Sonic J:

The wild Raikou used Roar!
Snorlax fled in terror!

Roar will force you to flee in case you trap it with Mean Look. Again, persistence.

^On a Pokemon with ridiculously high catch rate for a legendary?
Anyone who uses Master Ball on a fleeing mon is lazy.

Again, thank you guys so much for the advice! I'm actually making progress!:D

DNA, I totally agree with you, but I sometimes use my master ball only if I'm desperate.

I'll never end up being that desperate because I always know exactly what I'm doing when Poke-hunting. You should be too.
I've gotten in the habit of never using a Master Ball anymore because of this...and I do just fine.

I know someone who has the same philosophy as that. They bought as many pokeballs as they could, and then spent 5 hours until they caught DIALGA with a pokeball.
That's just lazy :p

I mean sure Master Balls are all right, but if a flippant response to catching a roaming mon is "throw a Master Ball", that's only one down. There are at least 2 roaming mon in every game and you can't use a Master Ball on every one without cloning (which most people may not have access to). I plan for that contingency and just replicate the strategy. I'd rather save my Master Ball for a Pokemon that could kill my team in nothing flat if I didn't throw it.

I think a Pokemon with a trapping ability should only be used if its health is in the red. e.g. park a Wobbuffet and just keep pelting your Quick/Dusk/Heavy balls or whatever.

Using a Masterball isn't being lazy.
Not a lot of people would want to sit there for hours trying to catch a low catch-rate Pokemon with Poke balls.

The roaming ones don't have as low a catch rate as Pokemon like the Regis. It's sorta low, but not uber-low. Just saying.

Good news guys! I caught Raikou!:D It took me about 4 hours of moving up and down between routes, and about 30 Ultra Balls, but I finally caught him.

DNA: i agree, it is lazy, but i don't want to deal with him. Have you ever used your master ball on Mewtwo? I caught him in an ultra ball or something in like 1 hour.

Have you ever used your master ball on Mewtwo?
Yes, for the following reason:
I'd rather save my Master Ball for a Pokemon that could kill my team in nothing flat if I didn't throw it.
Usually whenever I go against Mewtwo, my team can't survive long enough for me to keep pelting Ultra Balls. (Same reason why I used my Master Ball on Kyogre in Sapphire - it OHKO'd my entire team.) At one point, though, I want to try that without repercussion.

1 hour? You must have weird luck for Mewtwo to last that long...

@DNA: He said it's been bothering him for 5 months, so naturally, I assumed it would take him a long time more to catch it if he hasn't already.
Good job on catching the Raikou! I caught about 10 with possible stats/natures/everything else in about half that time with my AR. So much easier.
