Here's something that warrants some intelligent discussion: Star Wars Episode VII coming in 2015.

Star Wars 4-6 were the real Star Wars, 1-3 was for $$.

And this was not?

Which is worse Jar Jar Binks or Ewoks? (rhetorical)

Read, if you dare!

I'm gonna be honest, over half of those reasons exists simply because of better technology. Of course the lightsabers will be better in the prequels, because they use those fancy computer thingermerjiggers. Same with the Force. It's not "better," it's just that technology allows for more advanced force tactics to actually be portrayed without looking incredibly cheesy. The bit about the Clones isn't really accurate either, as I guarantee that Lucas wouldn't have hired all those extras just to suit up (Barney Stinson style!) as Clones (all those identical costumes would have had to be created, and then like, discarded after III was finished) just for those scenes. Most of them are probably just computer duplicates of the much smaller number of actual extras they had (you know, 30 extras dressed as Clones, then someone just copy/pasted them to make it look like thousands). The CGI battles involving the Clones are, largely, CGI. I could be wrong (please, someone link me if I am), but I really don't consider that a reason. Now, the video games do a much better job portraying the Stormtroopers-err-Clones as they should be, as mass produced elite soldiers (in relation to Droids). You ever played Republic Commandos? That game was rah.

The argument about knowing how the story ends actually works against the prequels, IMO. As we already have the original trilogy, Lucas works very intently to make sure like, every character or notable piece of fiction from the original trilogy is present. We don't really need to see Boba Fett as a kid (or Jango, for that matter). Watching Mace Windu turn Boba Fett into, basically, Star Wars version of Batman just rings cheap and hollow. Boba Fett was this bad ass illusive bounty hunter who was finally able to "defeat" Han. Seeing him as this stupid little kid who is basically around long enough just to watch his dad get killed ruins that. As unbelievably awesome as Qui-Gon is (Liam Neeson iz my hero), he is there for a movie, dies in that same movie, isn't mentioned in the second, and then mentioned very, very briefly (does Yoda even mention his name to Obi-Wan?) mentioned in the third. In Episode III, there's even this teeny, tiny cameo with the Millennium Falcon. It's really not necessary, but for some reason, we still get to hear about it.

The prequels are so poorly produced it's disgusting. Episode I had 0 revisions to it's script. Lucas wrote it, and boom, it went right into production. Do you know how many script iterations movies usually go through? Countless. And this movie had just one iteration. And don't even get me started on Jar Jar, or, god forbid, Hayden Christensen ("In my opinion, it is the Jedi that are evil!").

Well, I dont know much about Star Wars, but i liked 3. I really haven't watched any of the movies in like 3 or 4 years so don't hate.
Jar-Jar is pro. Toooo pro.
Star Wars 7? What is this? Darth Maul gets ressurected and goes on a killing spree :p? I'm not really excited, but its gonna be....interesting about how this turns out.
I think ALL of the acting was cheesy

Yoda and Jar Jar. Best ever.

Star Wars Episode 3 - Revenge of The Sith was the only one in the new trilogy (1-3), mainly because of Grievous and the epic final battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker aka the One who was to eradicate the Sith, You were supposed to defeat the Sith, not join them!! I do like RougeChomp's idea for episode VII, the one about Maul getting resurrected and going berserk and killing everybody with a new and improved double-blade lightsaber, and a whole lot of new Jedi, hopefully including new characters that are children of original characters, and eventually stop him, and cut him in half... again.

The whole Darth Maul thing was a joke. Maul got killed and Lucas already screwed it up by bringing him back in that new animated plot hole series. Be realistic.

Wouldn't be Star Wars if it was realistic now, would it? Though I do realize now that it is kinda absurd. I imagine the son of Luke and the daughter of Leia becoming Jedi and fighting off a newly formed Sith armada.

I sense... ninjas!!!

Realistic in the sense of an actually possible plot. Go look up the expanded universe, you'll a get a good idea for some of the things they'll be considering for the new installment.

That is about to start in the books to let you know.

I know Luke's son and Leia's daughter became Jedi, but I'm not sure about a new Sith armada in the EU. What you said earlier about Maul never happened and hopefully never will.

I've been a huge Star Wars fan since the Special Edition releases in '97. That said, my enthusiasm has, at points, wavered since the "conclusion" of the move franchise in 2005. I was pretty shocked when I heard the news, to be honest...not so much on the Disney acquisition side of things, but that more movies were planned. As Lucas has described the hexology as the story of Anakin Skywalker, I figured that no more (numerical, that is) films would follow.

I've heard rumors of there being a possibility of a completely original story with very few (if any) old characters returning. If that ends up being the case, I think there would be a strange disjunct with the original 6...I feel that there should be at least SOME connection to the Skywalker family in the new movies. Now I know there are plenty of EU works without mention of the Skywalkers, but to go from 6 movies in which they're central to the story to a new set in which they're not would seem strange. That being said, Lucas approached Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher to inform them of the possibility off a new trilogy before the news broke, so perhaps Luke and Leia may play some role?

I have to agree with Seth in that I hope the new set of movies entail completely new stories and don't rely too much on existing EU material. The thought of a Yuuzhan Vong trilogy...no, please no!

I found this surprising. http://todayentertainment.today.com/_news/2012/11/01/14861162-george-lucas-donating-disney-sale-billions-to-charity#__utma=14933801.664646508.1352252622.1352252622.1352252622.1&__utmb=14933801.0.10.1352252622&__utmc=14933801&__utmx=-&__utmz=14933801.1352252622.1.1.utmcsr=(direct)|utmccn=(direct)|utmcmd=(none)&__utmv=-&__utmk=140753458

I've never seen star wars. Don't hurt me.

I don't know, But I remember a few years back them saying that the last one was well, the last one. but I guess "they" don't have control over that anymore.

Let us have a moment of silence for those poor souls who have not seen Star Wars.
