So I'm trying to breed a squirtle to have HP ground. The squirtle I'm using to breed is calm Nature with perfect IVS in everything but attack. His HP is dragon.. and I've bred him and the squirtles that hatch also have HP dragon. How does the whole HP attribute work? Any advice is welcomed.
 
Hidden Power types require specific IV combinations. The best IV's a Pokemon can have to get HP Ground is 31/31/31/30/30/31. Bulbapedo or something probably explains it pretty well.
 
Getting into HP breeding can be complicated at first.As Cinesra said : Hidden Power types are based on IV combinations- More specifically- A combination of odd and even numbers of IV. Here is the full list for all the possible IV spreads for each type:

Dark:

  • 31/31/31/31/31/31
Dragon:

  • 30/31/31/31/31/31

As you have mentioned- Squirtle has either 31/odd number/31/31/31/31 or 31/even number/31/31/31/31 which means you are probably getting mostly hp Dragon and Dark.
The best way to fix that is to find a Pokemon that can breed with Squirtle that has 30 IV's in the required stats for hp Ground and start to chain breed.
If you are looking for IV spread of 31/31/31/30/30/31:

1-You need to find a Pokemon like Ditto with 30 IV in Sp.Atk or Sp.Def and breed with Squirtle another Squirtle with 30 IV's in Sp.Atk . Items required: Power Lens on Ditto (or Power Band if you are starting with Sp.Def) to guarantee 30 IV in Sp.Atk.

2-Find another Ditto with 30 IV in the other stat you haven't chose first and breed it with your 30iv Squirtle until you'll get a Squirtle with x/x/x/30/30/x IV's. Item required: The other power Item on Ditto. This is when it takes more than one egg and can take time.

3-After that all you need to do is chain breed that Squirtle with your perfect Squirtle until you'll have Squirtle with 31/x/31/30/30/31 IV's. Item required: Destiny Bond on the Squirtle with 30/30 IV and Everstone on the perfect Squirtle. This is now just like every regular breeding.

It is hard but worth it. I hope I explained this well. If not there are many guides about it on the internet that should help better.

You explained it well scattered mind... that's just a lot of work, but would be worth it. I just want to clarify all I need is to get the squirtle to have IVs 31/xx/31/30/30/31? Attack can be any iv 0-31?
 
The Attack IV needs to be an odd number and since you don't care about the Attack to be high it can be any odd number. Just not even.
 
Try to hunt 30 iv Dittos in the Friend Safari ( If you have Ditto in the Friend Safari ) . Since their level is 30 you can know by their stats if they have a chance to have 30 IV's:

HP: 77
Any other stat with no nature boost: 42
Any other stat with negative nature: 37
Any other stat with positive nature: 46

If you get any level 30 Ditto with these stats that means he has either 30 or 31 IV in those stats.
Go to the judge to confirm if they have 30 or 31.

I read this, but still I need a little help... when I see all the numbers my mind is going crazy xD

I want a Eevee with the nature Modest and if possible the most IV's that he/she can get with the HP Ground.
So maybe you can help me more in steps... sorry for being a pain in the ass :l

So lets say you choose 31/31/31/30/30/31
That means you need an Eevee with 30 IV's in Sp.Atk and Sp.Def.

Step1- Go to the Friend Safari in X/Y and catch Dittos like crazy. You need 2 Dittos. One with 30 Sp.Atk and another with 30 Sp.Def.
You can tell if a Ditto has 30 or 31 if the stat is as followed:

no nature boost: 42
Any other stat with negative nature: 37
Any other stat with positive nature: 46
In order to make sure it is 30 and not 31, simply go to the judge.

Step2- Take an Eevee (no matter which), and breed it with one of the Dittos. The easiest way to fast inherent the 30 IV from the first Ditto is by giving it the fitting Power Item, but you can simply breed like crazy with Destiny Bond. Take the Eevee babies to the Battle Institute in Lumiose City, (save beforehand) to boost any Eevee you want to check to level 50, where it is easier for IV calculators to check. Use this method along with the judge until you get an Eevee with 30 IV in Sp.Atk/Sp.Def. (x/x/x/30/x/x)
Step3- Now take the x/x/x/30/x/x Eevee and breed it with the other Ditto. Once again you need to breed like crazy until you get Eevee with x/x/x/30/30/x IV's
Step4- Now take a Modest perfect IV Eevee, breed it like crazy with the x/x/x/30/30/x Eevee, until you get the dream Modest Eevee with 31/x/31/30/30/31 IV's. (Don't forget to add the Everstone here on the Modest Eevee).

This process is long and should only be made if you really have a lot of time to kill.
The easier way is to find someone to trade with. If you don't mind using a hacked Ditto, the best thing a HP breeder can have is a hacked Ditto with 30 IV's in all the stats.

Thank you very much for explaining this to me, a lot easier!

I tried and I gave up for now ... I have now one with 2IV's it's for now good. I try later for one with 4IV's.
But again thank you for doing this, much appreciate it! :D

Even easier (and far more legal) is to find/trade for a 4/5th gen RNG abused ditto. Since RNG abuse does not alter the game in any way (only relies on proper timing and setting the DS's clock to a particular time), the ditto will still be legal.

We do have a trading section here on 'Beach, so I'd say check there first. As someone who knows how to use RNG abuse (though, it's been a while...), I could also search my games to see if I still have a HP Ground ditto - or at least something that will work. If all else fails, the old games still work (since the now-discontinued online support isn't needed for RNG abuse) and a new one can still be RNG'd.
