When creating a thread in the Deck Garage, make sure that you post one deck per thread, you use the correct prefix, you have the set name/card number next to each card, you give a strategy for non-metagame decks, and give translations for all cards not available in English.
When posting in a thread, be sure to explain all your suggestions thoroughly. Additionally, do not ask for advice in another member's thread.
I've been playing TCG at the local league for 3 months now, and... I keep losing. My deck lacks direction, seems like I'm changing it every week. I could really do with some help building a good deck. I've been advised to try a garbodor deck, a fire deck, but I never seem to do it right. My deck is rubbish, severe lack of strategy.
Deck list is
Pokemon
Mewtwo EX next destinies x 1
Giratina EX dragons exalted x1
Entei EX dark explorers x1
Ho-oh EX dragons exalted x 1
Garbodor dragons exalted x 3
Trubbish dragons exalted x 2
Numel boundaries crossed x 1
Camerupt Boundaries crossed x 1
Bouffalant dragons exalted x 1
Emolga dragons exalted x 1
Sigilyph dragons exalted x 1
Beyeeyem next destinies x 1
Elgyem promo x 1
Dunsparce boundaries crossed x 1
Trainers
Switch x 2
Pokemon communication x 2
Rescue scarf x 1
Giant cape x 3
Cheren x 2
Energy retrieval x 2
Rocky helmet x 1
Aspertia city gym x 1
Energy
Fire energy x 14
Psychic energy x 6
Grass energy x 2
Water energy x 1
Blend energy x 1
My strategy is kinda... get the big attackers out, the other energies are for ho-oh's attack.
So yeah. Constructive criticism very welcome at this point.
Your deck just looks like you've put together a pile of cards that have no synergy with each other. If you're opting for Garbodor, why not try and play it with Pokemon that have no Ability's such as Landorus, Mewtwo or Terrakion? I wouldn't go with Fire personally, especially with Keldeo in the format.
-1 Elgyem
-1 Beyeeyem
-1 Giratina EX
-1 Bouffalant
-1 Dunsparce
-1 Asperita City Gym
-1 Water Energy
-2 Grass Energy
-6 Psychic energy
-1 Ho-oh EX
-2 Pokemon Communication
-2 Trubbish
-1 Entei EX
+3 Trubbish NVI
+4 Double Colorless Energy
+2 Numel
+2 Camerupt
+4 N
+1 Computer Search
+1 Mewtwo EX
+4 Ultra Ball
Kimda drastic but it should help with consistency
The only way you'll get Ho-Oh into the discard pile with your current build is for it to be Ko'd meaning it's going to be on the bench either just waiting to be Ko'd or you're manually charging it, which is a waste of energy attachments considering its sub-par damage output.
It's understandable why you're losing, epsecially with your current build. You seem to be at the mercy of whatever is in your hand and whatever you top-deck, as you have very little ways to be able to search out for specific pokemon as well just drawing into your deck. Before we fix the pokemon line, we need to fix up the I/S/S line - A deck is nothing without a good foundation. I'm going to guess you're lacking in the more important resources, so i will try and make this as cheap as possible
4 Pokéball (Flippy, but it's better than nothing)
4 Pokemon Communication
4 Cheren
3 Professor Juniper
3 Bianca
*Try and obtain some copies of Ultra Ball, Level Ball and Heavy Ball*
I'm sure people will just give your pokéball for free at your league as i'm sure most people will have an abundance of Pokéball to just "throw away" and with Pokemon Communication: super cheap and easy to obtain. Prof. Juniper, Cheren and Bianca can all be found in theme decks so i doubt you'll have to trade high to obtain them in bulk. You're free to put whatever items and supporters you want at this point as with 10 draw supporters and 8 search cards you should be okay.
If you're going to include Garbodor then you shouldn't really be using Ho-Oh EX as that cards Ability is the only thing that makes it decent. Do you have any pokemon (stage 1 or basic preferably) that you have alot of copies of that would make for a decent attacker? or better yet, list out all the viable stage 1 and/or basic pokemon and we'll try and fix your deck from there.
5 water energy
25 dark energies
11 fighting energy
12 psychic
16 fire energies
7 grass
Trainers I have
8 energy searches
5 potions
4 pokemon communications
3 Poke balls
3 professor junipers
5 energy retrievals
1 Great ball
1 interviewers questions
1 professor oaks new theory
1 burned tower
1 ruins of alph
1 Pokemon reversal
1 revive
Thats not including what's in my deck mostly.
In terms of pokemon I have
2 blaziken from dark explorers
1 ninetails from dragons exalted
2 braviary from dragons exalted
2 zekrom from black and white
2 zoroark from emerging powers
2 excadrill from emerging powers
2 espeon from dark explorers
1 mandibuzz from black and white
2 sawsbuck from black and white
2 cofagrigus from dark explorers
2 serperior from black and white
2 Magmortars from dragons exalted
1 reshiram EX
1 serperior with royal heal
2 reshiram from next destinies non ex
Two leavannys from emerging powers, with the leaf tailor power
2 emboar, both from black and white, one normal, one with the inferno fandango ability
Hmm, nothing too amazing...but that's okay, this is a work-in-progress.
If you could get your hands on 2 more Sawsbuck from Black & White, you could make a pretty decent deck revolving around tanking with Sawsbuck via utilising Giant Cape (boosting HP to 110) and Potion and healing 20 damage with Horn Leech. while using Garbodor to lock abilities. You can even keep the DRX Bouffalant to help against EX's. You lose access to its Ability, but hitting an EX for 120 damage is still good. Heck, Dunsparce BC would be a nice starter (if you start with it) to get you drawing T1. Now ideally it would be nice if you had 4 DCE as well, just to help with speeding up the process of getting Sawsbuck charged for its Horn Leech attack (2 turns of energy attachments vs 3 turns of energy attachments) but some Energy Switch would be okay (use Dunsparce for 1-2 turns and energy switch energy off it onto something else)
4-4 Sawsbuck BW
3-3 Garbodor
1 Bouffalant DRX
2 or 3 Dunsparce BC (A weaker version of Virizion NV)
RE: Help me make a deck - current strategy is get the big cards out quick/ ho-oh garbodor
Instead of "Tanking" i should of said "Healing" because Sawsbuck makes for a horrible tank and would rely heavily of Giant Cape just to put it in the 2HKO range against certain threats. Serperior would be a waste if you were to include it with Garbodor. Even with Serperior, Sawsbuck would still be 2HKO'd by common threats. Save the space for better Items and Supporters.
RE: Help me make a deck - current strategy is get the big cards out quick
Garbodor is a great card, and if you go the right way with it, it has lots of potential. However, playing so many evolutions along side of it can slow down your deck a lot, especially since you're playing hardly any draw/search cards like Professor Juniper, N, and cards to search out your Pokemon, like Heavy Ball. Before I get too in depth with the changes I would make to your deck, we're going to have to consider the Cities metagame at hand.
Blastoise/Keldeo: Especially weak to grass Pokemon including Shaymin-EX, which can one-shot Keldeo easily.
Darkrai Varients: Weak against fighting Pokemon such as Terrakion and Landorus-EX, both of which can OHKO it. Landorus-EX can also One shot Deino, the lowest evolution of Hydreigon, the support Pokemon played in Darkrai/Hydreigon.
Rayeels/Eels: Rayeels and other Eels varients are prone to Turn one KOs and donks.
Darkrai varients and Eels varients are both weak to Landorus-EX. I would have normally put a couple Landorus' in here, but considering your cardpool, that's not an option. I'll be dealing with some relatively easy to get cards that you can get on Troll and Toad for a fair price that is much better than the heavy price tag of Landorus.
Mewtwo-EX is easy to get since it came out in the fall tins. It can donk Tynamos and get T1 KOs on them if it doesn't donk. Terrakion is a cheaper fighting Pokemon you can play to one-shot Darkrai, and Shaymin-EX is a pretty cheap card that makes your Blastoise/Keldeo matchup much more bearable (not that it isn't anyways since you shut down Blastoise's Ability with Garbodor).
Also, due to Blastoise/Keldeo being played, I'd take out Ho-Oh. However, I'm going to be keeping it in since your deck focuses on Ho-Oh and Garbodor. Playing Shaymin-EX would be an awesome revenge killer against Blastoise/Keldeo if they were to one shot your Ho-Oh
In this format, you're going to want to play 13-15 Supporters and 10-14 energies depending on the deck you're playing. Looking at your I/S/S count and Energy count, I can understand why your deck is rather inconsistent. The following changes should fix that and make your deck much better.
-1 Giratina EX (Not needed, and makes your deck much more inconsistent due to the space it takes up)
-1 Entei EX (Not needed, and makes your deck much more inconsistent due to the space it takes up)
-1 Numel (Never play 1-1 Pokemon Lines because of consistency)
-1 Camerupt (Never play 1-1 Pokemon Lines because of consistency)
-1 Bouffalant (Taking it out for things that you could use better. However, this would fit pretty good in this deck if you were to play it, since it can abuse DCE like Mewtwo)
-1 Emolga (While I like the idea of getting out Pokemon early game, search cards can do this much better than with an attacker)
-1 Sigilyph (Under-rated card, however, your deck doesn't have room for it)
-1 Beyeeyem (Never play 1-1 Pokemon lines because of consistency)
-1 Elgyem (never play 1-1 Pokemon lines because of consistency)
-1 Dunsparce (Double Draw is great because you get to draw but not so great because you will probably get N'd during your next turn)
-2 Pokemon Communication (A great card, but just plain searching your deck for Pokemon is better because you don't have to give up anything)
-2 Cheren (We're going to play better draw supporters like Juniper and N)
-1 Aspertia City Gym (This benefits your opponents Pokemon, too. Instead, play Eviolite, which benefits your Pokemon AND Garbodor)
-2 Energy Retrieval (Why play Energy Retrieval when you can play Super Rod?)
-1 Rocky Helmet (An interesting card, but the tools you want to play are Eviolite and EXP Share. EXP Share keeps your energies in play, and Eviolite prevents damage)
-1 Rescue Scarf (For Eviolite/EXP Share)
-2 Giant Cape (For Eviolite/EXP Share)
- 14 Fire Energies (For consistency, and you don't use them)
-6 Psychic Energies (For consistency, and you don't use them)
-1 Water Energy (For consistency, and you don't use it)
-1 Blend Energy (You could use it, but it doesn't work with EXP Share, which I'm putting in)
+1 Mewtwo-EX (Can get a T1 X-Ball with DCE and can get quick KOs on a loaded up Keldeo-EX)
+2 Terrakion Noble Victories (Revenge killer, and can OHKO Darkrai)
+2 Trubbish (To make it easier to get out)
+1 Shaymin-EX (To counter Blastoise/Keldeo which your deck is weak to because of Ho-Oh EX)
+4 Professor Juniper (One of the best Draw Supporters in the game currently, and can get you set up very quickly)
+4 N (See above)
+3 Skyla (Can get out Energies with Energy Search as well as Tools for Garbodor and Catchers)
+1 Random Receiver (To get out Supporters Easier)
+4 Pokemon Catchers (Pretty much says "Free Prize Cards")
+1 Energy Search (Can get out Grass/Fighting Energies in combination with Skyla)
+4 EXP Share (Keeps energies in play + works with Garbodor)
+2 Eviolite (Makes your Pokemon more durable + works with Garbodor)
+4 Ultra Ball (Gets out your Pokemon quickly plus gets energies discarded for Ho-Oh)
+4 Energy Switch (Great in combination with EXP Share, plus is great with Ho-Oh)
+1 Computer Search (The Ace Spec you need to play, plus the best card in the game)
+1 Grass Energy (For Shaymin + Ho-Oh)
+6 Fighting Energy (For Terrakion + Ho-Oh)
+4 Double Colorless Energy (Makes Mewtwo able to donk + powers it up insanely)
RE: Help me make a deck - current strategy is get the big cards out quick/ ho-oh garbodor
I actually pulled one of those landorus ex's from a boundaries crossed booster today thats a great deck list actually. Specially if its fairly inexpensive

I'd kinda like to keep it for now, or at least see what other trade offers I get the problem with deck building is, there's not many places to buy cards round here. Ordering off the net takes ages to ship, and the only kind of cards you can just buy is boosters, and dragons exalted theme decks.

I understand Nigel wants you to keep ho oh since its in your deck title but as a mod he can/shouuld be able to change your thread title. Ho oh has no purpose or synergy in your deck. At most ho oh can use its ability to resurrect itself with two energies which is not enough output for a maximum output of 60 damage. Replace the ho oh with the landorus ex you recently pulled.
Also stores only sell booster packs and decks (maybe some random promotional thing like the mewtwo tin) .
Also 1 week is not long to wait for cards in the mail. And it the only reasonable way to her the singles u want outside of trading. I'm going to assume that u don't get much trades in since your collection is weak.
Hey hey hey now... I never lost because of bad cards, everybody has there days, and just because a card is bad in your mind doesn't mean it's bad in the Meta.
I'd definately suggest using Nigels list. It's amazing, because it has Energy acceleration. Just find room for a few Sableye's, and some Dark energy to get your tools back, and you have a huge chance of winning.
However, one of the things that confuses me is why you even like Ho-Oh. Garbodor blocks Abilities so Ho-Oh can only be used early/late game if you don't have any Garbodors out.

Landorus EX is starting to look better and better in this deck
if he gets killed by a Keldeo/ Blastoise that just gives your Shaymin Ex more fuel. You're opponent just needs to take 2 prizes for you to do 90 with revenge Blast plus the type advantage OHKO.
