Hello, Enshidia here once again asking a personal TCG question due to lack of strategic advice, queries (although I have some) and nothing to say about all the strategy involved now, so I'll attack your minds with asking a deep and meaningful question.
My question is, how did you get into the TCG? Not playing per say, just getting into it as a collector or a player.
For me...I honestly have very little recollection. I think when I was 3-4, Pokemon the Anime came out to Australia on Cheez TV (old show, awesome until about 2003, got the boot in 2005). I don't know if I saw that first or the cards.
But everyone at school had cards, Pokemon was everywhere, everyone had the cards. I was feeling extremely left out and begged a guy to give me some. He relented and gave me a Base Set Machop and a Fighting Energy. I lost those cards years ago, but they were it.
From then on, I collected. The thing I remember was that I had no folder and usually kept them in a pile, eventually getting a milk carton with the top cut off (they just contained them nicely). I remember using an old photo album as a replacement, then getting a proper album (It was a big thing to me).
The craze without a doubt died in Australia in 2004, it was lingering around still in 2003, I can remember when the e-cards came out and knowing what the hell they were...since we were so behind, for memory you could still get Gym and Neo sets.
After 04, I stopped collecting (well properly) until 2007, when after reading a book and staying up to 5:30, I felt motivated to start recollecting. It wasn't until 08 when I really started, when I got involved with the Diamond and Pearl sets.
So yeah. My answer is peer pressure and the want to feel involved drove me in, but happy memories and the want to collect again put me back in.
...Wow, that was a suprisingly long story, sorry if I bored you all to death.
