How did you get stuck in the TCG?

Hello, Enshidia here once again asking a personal TCG question due to lack of strategic advice, queries (although I have some) and nothing to say about all the strategy involved now, so I'll attack your minds with asking a deep and meaningful question.
My question is, how did you get into the TCG? Not playing per say, just getting into it as a collector or a player.
For me...I honestly have very little recollection. I think when I was 3-4, Pokemon the Anime came out to Australia on Cheez TV (old show, awesome until about 2003, got the boot in 2005). I don't know if I saw that first or the cards.
But everyone at school had cards, Pokemon was everywhere, everyone had the cards. I was feeling extremely left out and begged a guy to give me some. He relented and gave me a Base Set Machop and a Fighting Energy. I lost those cards years ago, but they were it.
From then on, I collected. The thing I remember was that I had no folder and usually kept them in a pile, eventually getting a milk carton with the top cut off (they just contained them nicely). I remember using an old photo album as a replacement, then getting a proper album (It was a big thing to me).
The craze without a doubt died in Australia in 2004, it was lingering around still in 2003, I can remember when the e-cards came out and knowing what the hell they were...since we were so behind, for memory you could still get Gym and Neo sets.
After 04, I stopped collecting (well properly) until 2007, when after reading a book and staying up to 5:30, I felt motivated to start recollecting. It wasn't until 08 when I really started, when I got involved with the Diamond and Pearl sets.
So yeah. My answer is peer pressure and the want to feel involved drove me in, but happy memories and the want to collect again put me back in.

...Wow, that was a suprisingly long story, sorry if I bored you all to death.

Late 2006, I got very bored and annoyed with Yugioh and had just picked up the Pokemon games again, so I swapped my Yugioh for Pokemon, getting a deck and a sizeable amount of cards for trade to give me a kickstart, and then I stuck.

I also played in the early days, until Team Rocket came out...

I started collecting the tcg once everybody of my friends had it in 2nd grade. The first card I got was from my friend which was a Spinarak from Neo Genesis. I started buying packs until my cousin came over and stole most of my cards from me. In 4th grade, I wanted to play competitively so I attended Florida states and gotten 4th place. Since that tournament, I've been competing until I took a hiatus during middle school. I started playing again last summer.

My cousins(Megan and Angela) lost interest in pokemon, so they gave me all of their cards. This was around the first team rocket set. I still have them today.

I started playing last year in September, when I found a league that runs Pokemon tournament. I never thought they existed in Malaysia, since then, with all the possibilities, I kept on playing competitively to reach my current state.

Started playing many years ago because I find it quite interesting. XD Since then, I kept buying boosters and hook myself to it but I stopped playing for a couple of times...

i was a noob going to school (only played against myself and mom) and i saw a flyer for a league, i went there for fun and i saw a bunch of cool people, and i actually won something! then i went to that league every week and made better and better decks until i PWNzored all the noobs in juniors, then i failed in seniors.... i still remeber how happy i was getting that surfing pikachu on my first day... *memories*

started playing when the cards first hit the stores. had no idea what i was doing. played the game enuff to figure things out, and then quit in high school. (suddenly pokemon was taboo-lol) life went on, i got married and now i'm bored so i picked it up again and whomp on my brother inlaw on a regular basis. *FUN* he's learning. my only regret is that i didn't keep my original cards. they were smoking good. also, i wish there was a league around here! anyone live in bend oregon?

My first cards were a dog-chewed Base 1st Edition Squirtle and a Charmander treated likewise, given to me by another girl at daycamp when I was 5 or so. I became obsessed, and my mom bought me the Brushfire deck and some booster packs, giving me one card for every good thing I did. I joined a league when it first started, though I eventually quit...

Just started again about a month ago! I'm working on fine-tuning my first deck with hopes to make it to Cities this year. My parents are still iffy, though.

Started with Base Set, then the Wizards of the Coast licence changed, and they stopped the league at Toys R Us, so I stopped until late 2005. Started back in, played with my favorite deltas, and then stopped again in early 2007. Started back in a month in a half ago. :F

dmaster out.

Some relative of mine gave me a gift card for Christmas (I wasn't surprised either), so I had no idea what to buy at Target.

Guess what I bought? The Blastoise Theme Deck from Crystal Guardians.

My older bro bought lots of cards, but then got bored of them. He gave them to me and my younger bro (this was about the time of skyridge). I have been buying and playing since the beginning if EX Series.

I started collecting when the ex series came out because i thought it would be cool to play then i stopped when diamond and pearl series came out because you can't us the ex cards then i just got a few packets of diamond and pearl but i don't really collect them anymore that much.

Started in like 2000, when I was four years old. :3 Played for a couple years casually, then stopped...

...

For about 6. Then, halfway through this year, got back into the game and now I'm really enjoying it.

P.S: Yu-Gi-Oh! fails.

P.P.S: I'm just kidding.

P.P.P.S: T-Tar FTW.

I actually started around when Base Set came out. I used to get a pack every week, that and those Topps trading cards they made. I stopped getting them around 1999 or 2000, somewhere around there. I picked back up May of 08 because I saw new decks, so I was intrigued. So from there, I kept collecting and then started playing.

When Base Set was the only set released over here (can't quite remember when that was now), I was getting into the Pokémon franchise, I got some comic that was just the first episode of the anime. In it, there were advertisements for other Pokémon products including the TCG. I liked the look of it and got bought it for me. I played it, and I haven't really stopped to be honest.
Around when the TCG was changing from WOTC to Ninetendo, around the E card sets till Dragon (can't remember exactly), I had slowed down, not getting as many packs I used to, and at one point didn't go to league because I couldn't make a good E-on modified deck, but I was always collecting. I went back to league around when TMvTA was released, when I got both theme decks, modified the Magma one, and went back. Since then, I haven't stopped going.

I started playing when I found my first card on my grandmothers floor(Mew!). Then I collected them till I was 7 then I didn't like it. Later when i was 8 I played in a League for half a year then 1 y ear later I liked it. So I was on and off for 2 years then i saw the Darkrai move
and all the episodes( because I was in the hospital) and loved I and ever since then I have been hooked.

i got my first card from the original set (charmander) i don't know what the set is called but a few years later pokemon died down...a few years went by then i saw an old tape of the cartoon (my little sister was watching) then i thought of how much fun it was and bought a pak of holon phantoms the next week and got a mew ex first pak! went to a tournament. didn't know the legal cards...got into DP went to my first tournament that i actually competed in and got 10th place with a really dumb deck. (but no one expected it becouse it was so weird) and here i am today thinking of a deck to run next year and expecting more cards for christmas! :) (and boy am i hooked!)

It was the late 90s. I started collecting about when Jungle came out. It was the holo cards that drew me in. And the fact that each pack had a rare in it. Then when I played the game for the first time, I had so much fun. Then I went nuts buying packs.

Then the game lost interest later in my life. And I HATED the E-reader cards. Having all 150 original pokemon and nobody left to play against, I retired.

What was it that brought me back into the game? In September 2008, I saw a 3-pack. In it was a card featuring a pokemon I never knew about. Magmortar. I was all excited that some of the original 150 pokemon were getting new evolutions. I HAD to have that card. So I got the blister pack and discovered how much I missed pulling good cards. Plus my binder now had HUGE gaps in it after adding DP-series cards. So now I'm back with a new army.

It was all a day in May of 2007...

I was walking through Wal-Mart and I saw this creature that my friend had been telling me about...A POKEMON! I bought it, and I found that it had cards in it. I got a holo in my first pack, and I was so excited that I kept on getting cards.
