Pick your favorite Pokemon and collect it. All versions of it from each set. Foreign language versions as well. The awesome thing about collecting is you get to choose what you want to collect and how you organize it. It is your personal collection after all!

No, it's not a stupid question. I often ask myself the same thing. :p I am currently collecting Espeon cards, in the way Fusion mentioned.

You can choose a set, card, or Pokemon to collect. Keep them safe with sleeves and/or keep them in a binder and avoid touching them so you don't get them oily!

There has to be a motivation to start collecting. You have to want a certain card(s) in order to start a successful collection. Do you want to collect every set, all of the promo cards, RH cards, first set, or just simply start collecting? I am sure there are plenty of youtube videos out there where collectors state why/how they are collecting. I watched a video of a girl that was opening packs online of every set, in order to collect the entire set of pokemon. This way she had plenty of motivation to collect; an audience with a demand to see her open her collection! All though it does get very expensive depending on where you want to start or what you want to collect. Just make a set of goals that way you can budget your collection. Rather than just buying card lots off ebay (How I started =P).

It comes down to personal preference. Pick a card you like and collect it, you can put it in any order, by rarity, type, set, etc..

Good luck with your collection

I'm trying to collect Flareon cards for a display, (As you can see from my profile and picture that Flareon is my favorite.) but my main priority remains with playing competitively and gathering cards I will need.
What I'm doing right now, is that for every different Flareon card I get, I put in a penny sleeve and then I tape the penny sleeve on the wall, sealing the penny sleeve with tape in the process. I put them in order from oldest---->newest. It looks pretty nice, but I don't have that many in the first place.

Try looking at bulbapedia, search each eeveelution in the trading card section, and make your own checklist for each card. Then, be on the look out for future eeveelution cards.

Depends on what cards you're collecting. You can do something like the other posts say, but I do it way differently. About 7 years ago, almost everyone I knew played it, so I got into playing/collecting (non-competitive/at school recess). About three years after that, I learned of a local league, which I took part in for 1 1/2 - 2 years until becoming too busy to go. Since then, my colection has grown by probably 1500-2000 cards and I collect each english set (mainly just Base-Neo and DP-on, not really E-Series or EX Series) in the regular and RH forms. I also collect all of the promo sets released to us as well as a bunch of other card related merch. But really, find what you want to do withit, and follow through with it. Either way, good luck. :)

For Eevee, try talking to CorinthiansRose. They have a very good collection of English, and Japanese cards. They might be able to pm you a list.

On the front page of Poke Beach there is a Card Scan section, that should help.

This helps out a lot also, because you can see the actual card and it is organized. This is the great part about collecting, is that it is all about having fun with it. There are so many ways to organize and collect it's almost endless.

Only bad part, promo sections don't work for me. Not sure who/how many else, but it's still fine with me.

This might be expensive but might as well give it a shot. If you can buy singles and only singles. Most card shops sell singles but they are usually more expensive then if you got it through booster packs. Also buy booster display boxes. This way you can trade the ones you don't want for the ones you do want XD.:)

I would love to do this!! I just can't buy booster boxes right now seeing as I am completely broke!! Unemployment really is putting a hold on my collection!!! Haha

I usually go by set. i was into wotc cards but i put that on hold for the moment. It just depends on what you want out of a collection. For me im ocd about my sets. I have to have every card including secret rares, a complete rh set, different cards from the theme decks and more. With dragons exalted i even got the banned magmortar card. Its all up to you on how you want to collect but i basically go by a few rules.
1. Be passionate about what you collect
2. Make a list of the cards you need. SUPER important especially if your on a budget. I have wasted a ton of money buying cards i didnt need at the time and it ended up wasting me money, making a cluttered mess of cards i dont know what to do with, and stressing me out over stuff that i shouldnt be.
3. Buy only cards from that list or set. Again just because i can get a popular card for a decent price doesnt always make it worth it. For some people this rule may not apply for trading and whatnot but i have found that sticking to what im working on no matter what makes me alot happier with my collection and a lot less stressed about it.
4. Set reasonable goals for your collection. it will stress you out if you set your goals to high or broad and you will never see collections complete themselves. For example i cant set my goals to complete every single set ever made and buy a bunch of different cards all over the map. It will drive me crazy and at the same time i cant collect a PSA graded 10 complete 1st edition shadowless base set. That in no way shape or form conforms to my budget. Collect with in your budget and a narrow set of cards usually the size of a set or less.
5. Showcase your collection in an organized way another way to prevent stress in collecting is to enjoy the way i showcase my collections. I dont like clutter in my cards and it drives me nuts. For me i usually buy the portfolio that goes along with that set and use those. Keeps it organized and keeps me happy.
6. Enjoy the road to completing your sets/goals. Having a complete set is nice to look at every once in a while but for me the fun is in getting the cards that i want. To me thats where all the fun is. I enjoy getting cards in the mail, opening packs and putting cards in my binder and marking them off my checklist. As usual its all about the journey and not the destination. Cliche i know but to me having a complete set is not nearly as fun as building one.

Those are my 2 cents on collecting cards. Theres no right or wrong way to do it i just adhere to the rules i put together for myself because with collecting pokemon cards there are thousands of different cards across more than 50 sets and hundreds of promos and whatnot. Without a bit of guidlines for myself it would become to cluttered and stressful. Its alot fun for me when its organized and i can watch a collection grow. Whatever you decide to collect whether it be sets or promos or a certain pokemon i do hope you enjoy it and feel free to take or leave anything that i said. Thats just what i do passing it on from one person to the next. Let me know if you need any help or have any questions!!

Hey guys sorry to hijack the thread.. but I want to collect Scyther and Pinsir cards.. what would be the cheapest/most efficient way to do this?
EBay? From private sellers?
What's the easiest way to make these transections?

*Note I live in Australia

Eh, I don't really trust Ebay half the time. Even when a seller has good feedback. Look locally first for friends who might have a bunch of cards you may need.
