Hi!
I'm 12 and I'm getting Pokemon Black when it comes out in English.
Pokemon Black will be my first Pokemon game I have ever owned.
I wanted to ask a few questions like how do you make a good team, are legendaries aloud in competitive play, and is competitive play only on wifi?
You if you could answer these questions that would be great! ;)
Thanks!

1. Legendary Pokemon are allowed in competitive play, you just cannot use Ubers. You can find Ubers in the banlist thread. A lot of legendary Pokemon are Ubers, but many are not.

2. The majority of competitive battling happens on Pokemon Online and Shoddy Battle (Google them and download)

I suggest looking on Smogon for guides on EVS, basic skills you need, and battling simulaters. Asking around in the competitive battling questiosn thread is also a good idea if you need help with anything.

One thing to note - do NOT go on Smogon for movesets and EV spreads, etc. I suggest using your making your own, instead of copypasting like most battlers.

Well, unless you are a pretty advanced battler who knows exactly how a moveset will contribute to your team, I suggest going with Smogon. Their sets are made and checked over by a high level group of competitive battlers. This doesn't mean that there is no thinking involved, you have to know which pokemon and which moveset to use.

^agree

Just have fun right now and experiment with different pokemon to come up with a team you like and can kick butt.

The analyses on Smogon only really show what the most popular sets are. They aren't there to show people what to use.

It's one thing to read up on competitive battling, but it's another to actually battle. You can read all you want, but what it actually comes down to is getting out there and battling over and over. As time passes, you'll get better, learn what works, and start winning more matches.

I have pokemon white on the r4 card for my ds lite. can I play online with others? and trade with other and stuff?

You also want to build a team hat you are comfortable with using. For example I specialize in Stall and Stall Breaking Teams. You may find a weather team like Rain Dance or Hail more style. It all depends on what you like to use.
