How do you organise your folders?

I've always just ordered my cards my Pokedex number. But now that I have so many different versions of the same Pokemon, I'm thinking I need a new system to display them better. I was hoping someone might be able to advise or inspire me by showing off what system you all use!

I start off with sets. Chronological order (Base Set, Jungle, Fossil ... Diamond and Pearl, Mysterious Treasures, Secret Wonders, etc.). Then, type in order of Pokedex numbers (if that makes sense) (Grass, Fire, Water, Colorless, Fighting, Psychic, Darkness, Steel, Dragon [I suppose], Trainer [Items], Supporters, Stadium, energy in the same order as Pokemon after Trainers [for special, I organize by set and then set number]). And then by Pokedex number, followed by set number for multiples of the same species (but different card) in a set.

I just put all of my Primes, EXs, exs (old versions) in the front. Then I put all of my Rares that have some competative use after those, then Commons/Uncommons after those, then Trainers, Supporters, Stadiums, and then Energy. Although I don't collect, I play competatively so that may hold some sway over my organizational system. I always get rid of my cards that are rotated so I don't have to deal with them. If you collect, most people do it by sets then by set number.

@Chariblaze
Your system is so complex... How long did it take you to do that?

To come up with the system, probably an hour total. To put it into action with 2,000+ cards, what with reorganizing for changes to my system, probably 10 hours total.

I did forget, I do have a few other parts. All non-legal cards go in a big blue binder, all legals go in a big white binder. Rare non-legals and foreigns go into a small yellow binder, rare legals go into a small red binder.

As far as my legal stuff goes, Type (for example: Fire, Water then Grass), then reverse rarity for the Pokemon: (I'll use B&W as an example) Holo, Reverse Holos, Rare, Uncommon, Common, RH Trainer/Items, Trainer/Items, RH Supporters, Supporters, RH Stadiums, Stadiums, RH Special Energies, Special Energies, Basic Energies (not all the Energies, just the ones with the cool designs) and the 2 exceptions are Full Arts and EXs which go in the back. (though when I organise my binder again, which will be when I get offline if I feel like it, I will put The FAs and EXs in the front)

Hmm, those are some good ideas. Gives me something to think on.

I'd really like to be able to display variations of the same Pokemon next to each other, but also in some sort of overall ordering. My problem is, if I order by Pokedex and get a new version of a card, I'd have to shuffle EVERYTHING forward. Which would, well, suck.

I sort them via playability. High playability to low playability. Or Value with rotated cards

I keep mine organized in chronological order of sets, and then by set number within each set. I have a separate section for promo cards, and also separate binders for my cards in Japanese and Dutch. I keep my excess bulk in tins.

I, too, wanted to keep pokémon next to each other, and that's how I originally had it organized at first, but... it was just too much work to maintain. Even having separate sections for each type, getting any new cards resulted in a massive under-taking of sorting. Not that I mind sorting cards (I actually enjoy it and find it relaxing) but because it took so long, cards ended up sitting out in sleeves for longer periods of time and I started getting nervous about the cat getting a hold of them, so I overhauled and switched to a faster, easier system.

At the moment of got all the English BW sets in their respective Ultra-Pro 3x3 portfolios, with whatever reverses I pull in the back. Nine promos take up the first page of each, leaving the back for a gap before the actual set. (So I've actually got a few left hanging until DE's folder is released)

Then at the moment I've got a World 2011 folder that's got everything else I've been collecting since I started again last year in. At the moment there's my pulls from Hail Blizzard - DBDB boxes in order, then Magma vs Aqua and Rocket Returns, ending with Japanese Rising Rivals.

Eventually I plan to separate the above into three binders for - Japanese BW / English Team Ex sets / Japanese DPt character owned sets and decks (With some moving around, I'll probably separate the Cyrus/Cynthia deck and put the former after the first DPt set and Cynthia's cards after the E4 deck but before the Supreme Victors equlivalent)

All the cards I ended up keeping from back in the day are still in my Southern Island binder, and probably won't be moved ever.

Despite being a heavy player, I organize mine by set in binder and basically hold Energy/Trainers in a tin.

I organize all of mine by collector number since I have multiple complete sets.

I have a special binder though with the original #251 Pokémon. They're in numerical order and only 1st ed. WoTC cards go in there. :D

By set. With separate binders for promos, decks, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, and Korean. I have banker boxes full of binders.

I have a small Rares Binder, and a large Binder for everything else. I order that one simply; by colors. Grass Energy followed by Grass Pokemon, Fire Energy followed by Fire Pokemon and so on. T/S/S in the back and preceded by Special Energies. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me.

I originally had a giant mess of an organizational system but I switched over to arranging them by sets a few weeks ago. Ideally I'd have my cards arranged by a modified National Dex order, showing off each card of a Pokemon before the next Pokemon, but they release new cards so often that it's probably just not practical to do it that way. If I did it now I'd have page one as Bulbasaur and then I'd have to switch all of the cards in a month with Dark Explorers comes out with a new Bulbasaur card, for example.
