DPPt/HGSS How do you train your Pokemon??

Hello, I just had a question to ask.

When you play pokemon games, how do you level up your pokemon?

What I usually do, is get my pokemon to a certain level before continuing.
Like, I had all pokemon at level 15 when I challenged Roark
They were level 20 when I challenged Gardenia
They were level 25 when I challenged Fantina
And right now, I am working on getting them to level 30 for Maylene

I have 110 pokemon in my pokedex (including Lopunny, Chimecho, and Crobat, all due to my awesome friendship abilities)

And, I am happy to report that I have 172 hours invested in this game, and I am not even halfway done with it. (BTW, this is Platinum)

I have also done this with past games, including Gold, Ruby and Sapphire, and FireRed

And let me tell you, training Finneon and Chansey in Platinum is a major pain! Oh, and Shieldon

So, does anybody else train their pokemon like me, or is it just me?

RE: Something I am fond of doing...

Starter only training...then get some high level wilds, migrate, and elite 4 training.

That's what a lot of people do, but I like the idea of training all of your pokemon, that way, whenever you need to switch, you have one right there that you need.

Also, here are a few things I have discovered

Chatot has a killer Chatter attack
Chansey's Attack and Defense sucks
Finneon takes forever to level up
There are a lot of pokemon in Platinum that require Friendship to evolve (Including Clefairy, Togetic, Lopunny, Crobat, Espeon, Umbreon, Chimecho, and Roselia) Luckily, I have all those
Aipom and Pachirisu's Pick-up is very helpful
Duskull sucks

RE: Something I am fond of doing...

I always keep the first 6 pokémon I obtain throughout the game, never switching until after the Elite 4. I train them in each place about 5 levels higher than the average trainer there.
After the Elite 4 I train my other pokémon, so that time is pokédex filling time.

In Pearl my team was: Empeleon, Infernape (traded when it was a Chimchar for a Starly early in the game), Chimecho, Pachirisu, Luxray and Noctowl (too be fair, this wasn't one of the first I obtained. It used to be Bibarel, but it couldn't learn fly, so I switched it for Noctowl).

RE: Something I am fond of doing...

I usually only level up the pokémon in my team. Then, I just level up some pokémon to evolve them when the evo is not available in the wild...

RE: Something I am fond of doing...

Usually I level up Pokemon early game, like my Platinum Team:
Torterra
Luxray
Giratina
Gastrodon
Alakazam
Rapidash

But with HeartGold, I traded over an Elekid and Larvitar to train up. My final team is:
Feraligatr
Electivre
Tyranitar
Ho-oh

So thaý's what I do. Raising Pokemon in heartgold was easy, because no of the trainers caused problems.

RE: Something I am fond of doing...

Well, I usually just raise Pokemon on a whim(Starter only training most of the time though). But in recent years, I've started to put some thought into my Pokemon teams. I normally train around 8 Pokemon at one time so that, in the case of an important battle that requires say, a Fire type as opposed to a Steel type, I can just switch out for my Fire type. Also, I have started to get a habit of going back and training random Pokemon that I caught but never really intended on using because they've sunddenly look more useful.

Another I tend to do with my newer games is put my legends in the PC. I've just stopped liking to use them when D/P rolled around for some odd reason. However, for HG, I trained Ho-Oh anyways(since this is my nostalgia game. I also kinda vowed not to make a good team, but that sorta back fired on me).

But yeah, I do tend to raise my Pokemon to be a certain level that I set for Gym Leader battles, with my starter being raised an extra 5 levels for good measure.

i get the pokemon i want first usually a starter a good water a ghost and always a dragon

my platinum and heart gold team
scyther
scizor
flygon
lapras
gengar
typhlosion or a good starter from that generation

once i trade to get those thn i keep them and use them through out the elite 4, battle frontier, and video game championship, also online as well

I level up my Pokemon earlier in the games, or as soon as I obtain them. I dislike level grinding, but I find it quite necessary.

I like to massively over level my starter as I go through the game.
For example, on my Platinum, I had a Lv. 35 Torterra before I even entered the 2nd gym. When I beat the E4, that same Torterra was in the high 70's.
My Soul Silver, finished with a Lv. 63 Feraligatr after the E4, and then he was Lv. 67 after he practically took on Red by himself(Lucky much?)

My friend didn't know how to change pokemon on emerald and he had a grovyle lv 23 when he reached the first gym. Then had a sceptile from then on and ended up with this team:

Sceptile Lv 87
Tailow Lv 13
Arom Lv 10
Geodude lv 4
Geodude lv 9
Geodude lv 7

.... And that was for the elite four!

I just go along and use my starter all the way. Uncoordinated, lv 53 lv infernape at maylene. Rest of the team: low twenties.
