Pokemon How long until Pokemon dies out?

We saw it once a while back-where nearly everyone just stopped playing. Do you think it could happen again? And if so-will it be permanent? I'm not just talking about the TCG but Pokemon in general. How long do you think it could last?

Nearly everyone stopped playing? When the hell was that? o_O
It's not dying any time soon. Look at Star Wars; it still has a rabid fanbase 30+ years after the first movie. It's going to take a long time.

As long as there are video games, there will be Pokémon. It is one of Nintendo's most money-earning franchises.

I don't see Pokemon dying out soon. Pokemon X and Y look amazing, and everyone I know is excited for it.

I can't see it ending soon. It's awesome and the fanbase is enormous. Each generation is original and builds on the previous generation.
I like the Star Wars analogy, as well. Good point.

I think whenever hand held gaming devices slow down, so will pokemon. We're switching over to tablets and other devices, I don't think selling a DS or a 3DS or whatever is going to last for ever.

The question should be, how long until handheld consoles die?

Well how about a different question; how long until Pokemon runs out of ideas? Now don't get me wrong I love Pokemon and I have since i started playing it (almost 10 years ago) but I meant they keep doing the same thing over and over again. Do you think people could ever get bored of it? Unless they add a completely new dynamic to Pokemon it could die out (not necessarily soon, but eventually).

>when will pokemon die out
>when will people stop asking when will pokemon die out

Never.

As players leave, more players enter. They'll be hard-pressed to juggle new Pokemon (or they may even start to retire them) but Pokemon is here to stay folks.

Even if pokemon started running out of ideas, there is always something new they could do.
Like PMJ said, they might retire some of them. If they made one last game or series to go through all the regions, then they could start again with a new planet/section of the pokemon universe. I mean, they have no reson to stop. Pokemon is a very big seller, and they continuously have new players joining, more so than they have leaving.
We may lose the DS, 3DS, ect. but pokemon is either here to stay, or will be for a long while.

I think XY will bring back many old fans. I was talking to a friend yesterday who hasn't played since RED - if you can believe that! He has just started looking into what hes been missing over the last 10 years! (wouldn't that be crazy...to just learn about some pokemon from gen 2 on?!)

Lol. Oh god, he's in for a treat. I still have trouble remembering Gen 5 names. I feel bad because I love Pokemon so much, but really half the time when someone says a name like Meinfoo, it takes me a second. I couldn't tell you the names of Gen 5 Pokemon even if you promised me money.
Plus all of the mechanic changes since Gen 1. lol

Anyways, yes the question is redundant. No matter how many times you rephrase it. Pokemon is a staple in our generations pop culture. I'd give Pokemon at least 30 more years. As I mentioned in another thread, I would have stopped playing Pokemon if they stopped after Gen 2. I would have grown out of it as an old game and would have no reason to care for anything else Pokemon related without the main games by my side (Ya'll those are an extension of myself). However they keep making games and I will keep growing with Pokemon. Even if they stopped making new Pokemon, there are so many ideas they could still continue on with.

*Making a console mainstream game.
*Making a high budget MMO
*Making a game that has every region in it.
*Simply making a game with a more mature story

And if Nintendo ever decided to stop making Pokemon games (ha), then another company would pick it up and we would get a brand new everything starting over.

Star Wars, Star Trek, Spider-man, Looney Tunes, Hello Kitty, Godzilla, Ultraman, Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes, Transformers...

Virtually no best-selling franchise, not in film, not in comics, not in anything, has completely died out in the entire past hundred years.

You forgot about more spin-off games like a good Dungeon squeal after Sky and maybe some original spin-offs like Conquest.

I dont know if the spin off games can hold on without the main games

The heldhand systems wont die as long as they will keep developing them
If you play the game in Iphone with emulator it will be slow and painful
They can bring the handhels console to the same level of todays tablets its just a matter of time

I never EVER thought of playing pokemon until i had a child, that's 7 right now.
I only got into it just because my kid did.
If,if my 2nd child wants to play when she gets to be 7 or so,i'll keep playing.
Otherwise...I'm hooked lol

Do your research! The main-series games sell MILLIONS of units each time they're released, not to mention that the side titles can still be hot sellers too. Furthermore, not all of Pokemon is bound up in the video games or TCG. There's a ton of merchandise that people love to buy and collect too.

In response to the mention of Pokémon dying out previously, the card game dropped massively in popularity in 2004. This was around the time of the switch over, from Wizards Of The Coast to The Pokémon Company International. This is a contributing factor to why FR/LG, Aqua v Magma, Hidden Legends and EX Team Rocket are expensive and harder to find . There were less made, because there was less demand. Pokémon as a whole, has lost a lot of fans but has gained even more. Nostalgia is what brings back the older fans, newer games, sets and anime brings in the newer fans. Older fans, introduce their younger family and friends as well. Pokémon, will carry on for at least another few generations . We don't know for sure, but sales in handhelds are dropping as the years go on.
