How long will HS-on last?

I'm just curious as to how long formats generally last? I started really getting into it at the end of the last format, and wanted to know how long the cards I have will be playable. Thanks!

I hope they stick around for a bit longer but September 2012 is probably when the next rotation is (if not I don't see HS-on lasting longer then September 2013)

well, we're getting a reprint of double colorless in one of the BW sets, and with the EX pokemon coming out, I think september 2012 is going to start CoL-on

Definitely September 2012, yes. There's no reason for another mid-season rotation with such a great format like HS-on (yet), and they've already said that they won't repeat the horrors of skipping the rotation anytime soon.

Why would it go CoL-on? That way we still have the same Cleffa engine that we use today. If you've noticed, Pokemon likes to make us try to get a new engine with each rotation. Ex. Holon Engine, Claydol/Uxie, just Uxie, now Babies.

^That's true, although perhaps something will be released close to the rotation that makes the Babies from CoL obsolete. Some other engine, or perhaps people will just realize that the Babies aren't as good as some other options for starters (seeing as they're a free prize later in the game, particularly with Catcher).

it would be CoL-on since it has all the reprints in it. Otherwise CoL would have been a complete waste of money outside of pachirisu with what the metagame is like. And it seems like the holo energy is in higher demand than research records and lost world. It may be TM-on if they only want to rotate 3 sets though. But if yanmega keeps dominating and magnezone keeps helping that domination, it'll be CL-on.

They could make HGSS on like DP on and just not do a rotation next year. That would be cool. Then we could get something to make zps the next sabledonk.

Because the format definitely is in dire need of a deck like Sabledonk :p

My guess is that they will either skip the rotation to give players a bigger pool of sets to work with, then cut mid season again, or they will just make a cut after Worlds next year like they always have.

In a way, the rotation before nationals was nice, and it does make nationals more interesting, but I don't think that it should happen again for a while

I think whenever they do switch, they'll switch to BW-on. Before Psycho Drive/Hail Blizzard was announced, I didn't think they would have any pre-Gen5 Pokemon in the game until RS remakes (if any). If that hadn't happened before rotation next year, we'd be stuck with only 153 choices for Pokemon, which wouldn't give us many options, so I thought next year would probably be CL-on. But now that Psycho Drive/Hail Blizzard has been announced, they will probably switch to BW-on next year.

Actually, BW-on is very possible. It WAS Base Set revisited in a strange, convoluted way, so maybe that'll be the first set in the next format. Just a thought.

I'm sure it'll be September 2012. They wouldn't throw us off target again, simply because there won't be enough sets to do that.

True. There would be no point in reprint sets if we didn't gain anything from them. However, what use will Lost World be without Gengar Prime? ZPS will crumble without Shaymin UL. Reshiboar will dominate from 2012 onwards.

Has anyone wondered why they're suddenly making Water-types that do N amount of damage plus another H amount of damage for every energy attached, like Samurott and the Red Collection Jellicent?Perhaps this is a hint that HGSS will get rotated next format, since Feraligatr Prime is the big support for those guys.

This made me lol....CL IS a waist of money xD. Next rotation will be BW-on. Notice how they dropped the Primes and then picked up Holo's and FA's. CL is just a collectors set...like PK or Legendary Collection (I think that is what it was called) sets.

Also Magnezone becomes a little.....lamer with Catcher out. 3 retreat and a little inconsistent attack without energy acceleration. Most you could do to keep up every turn is 50....ya not that great...

Legendary Collection was to keep our format more like Japan's. in the first years of Wizard's control, only the latest 3 sets were tourney legal. where in Japan it was different. I still want to get 4 explosion holo Energy Retreivals to use instead of the BW ones =)

TM-on would still make some sense, it keeps the reprints from CL (I'm not sure, but I think there were no TM reprints in CL), and is a smaller rotation so not many players will be up in arms about their entire strategy going away. and Magnezone will still have Emboar to setup and do high damage. as well as Pachirisu drops just in case. so, energy acceleration is there. I'm just glad I get to play my HS-on deck for a whole season.

^ We don't need another LuxChomp type situation. If a deck is just destroying everywhere then well...why keep it for 2 seasons. It's good to have change, and having the same deck sin every time is a not good for the meta...it just makes it lame and not fun to play in...thus a HS-on rotation...
