How many versions of the Base Set Pikachu 58/102 (incl. reprints) are there?

There's a Jumbo version of the Base card too.

To add info about the Snap contest one, as far as I know only one copy ever sold, and it went for £11,000 (which at the time was around $22,000)

Yeah I know. I have seen that card for real. My friends brother had one of those in his binder pouch. Anyway. I am guessing the rough count for this is around 50 Pikachu's. Don't forget to count the extensive amount of duplicates too XD.:)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the "Unlimited (printed in English on Japanese card stock, distributed in Japan)" the same as "Pokémon Best Collection CD"?

It's just a shadowless yellow cheek Pikachu card on Japanese card stock, right?

EDIT: It's this guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pokemon-Pikachu-Sealed-CD-Promo-Base-Set-Art-Gem-Mint-/261066117983?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc8c0d35f#ht_500wt_1219

Yes, I noticed this online. I believe the only ones on eBay at the moment only ship to the United States (I am located in Canada :( ). I saw some Best Collection CDs for sale from $60 sealed. I'll have to research the price of those a bit. At last it (hopefully) guaruntees a Mint to Gem Mint card!

Which card have you seen for real? The snap tournament prize?

I doubt you have. You've probably seen the snap promo that was released via Coro Coro or something similar.

I imagine he saw the Jumbo version of the Base Set card that you were referring to :p

The Base English Pikachu card. I have seen this card for real. My friends brother had it in his binder pocket of his card binder. He even took it out and let me look at the card. It has been about 8 years since I last saw that card. When I moved in 2005 my friends brother was selling his cards so I don't think he has it anymore now. I will see if I can find the jumbo card on the list here on the site and see where he got it. Then I can tell you guys XD.:)

EDIT: It is either the 1997 or 1998 Pikachu. Only it is the blown up version of the Base set Pikachu. When I saw it I did not think anything of it because I was new to Pokemon and he might have bought it online or he might have been in Japan when it came out XD.:)

The top pic does not show on my end for some reason but my friends bro had the one in the bottom pic. I am not sure if he still has it since I have not seen him in a very long time because my old friend turned on me and treated me like dirt. His 2 brothers were so much nicer to me than my friend treated me. He was fine for about 2 years but he always like to win and he always made sure I could not win. I got fed up and no longer friends with him for that reason. Sad that he did that because his brother were always so good to me XD.:(

@ xxashxx: That doesn't sound like a very good friend! :(

Thanks for keeping the thread alive you two!

I received what I believe is the Pokemon Best Collection CD promo in the mail today (I purchased it off of eBay). However, I'm not sure if the card is real. Is it true that this card is identical to the Base Set 58/102 Shadowless Pikachu? If so, it might just be a Base Set 58/102 Shadowless Pikachu. I thought that the card stock would be a bit thicker and more durable (Japanese card stock). The card stock seems identical to any of the English cards that I own. I have never handled Japanese card stock before, however I have handled Korean card stock recently. I figured it would be about the same as the Japanese card stock?

The top picture is just the normal sized Jumbo Pikachu. You can Ebay search it or google image search it to find it.

So you know someone who had that giant Pikachu card (that's like 5+ feet tall)?! That's crazy! I know there are some bad memories tied with him, but please try and get in contact with him. If not, can you give me his contact info?

That one in the pic was 5 feet tall? I wondered why there was a person standing next to it. Anyway no that was not that one. It was the binder size jumbo that fits in the pocket. It is as wide as the regular jumbos and as tall as the regular jumbos but I am not sure where he got it. It is an English Pikachu Base set though.:)

SP I know. I am no longer friends with him either XD. He was good for the first 2 years though. If it was not for him getting me started with Pokemon I probably would not be here right now because when Pokemon first came out I did not know exactly what it was and I hated Pokemon. After he started showing me his cards his Base Charizard caught my eye. He gave me around 600 cards to get me started. Then before I moved back to where I am now my friends gave me all their cards except my ex friend anyway. I got into a couple of fights over the Nintedo Power Mewtwo and the WB Promo Dragonite for the first movie so I eventually broke friendship after something else that happened that I can't explain XD.:(

Oh, the normal sized Jumbo is common. I thought your friend had the giant one.

secret pikachu...do you have any old japanese cards? besides the questionable pikachu? like from neo sets or below?? thats the best way to tell feelings of card stock take an old english base card-fossil (not base pikachu)...and 1 old japanese base-fossil card (not base pikachu) to tell....if u dont have either those old cards, let me know and i can help u get some (no charge-no trade)

that giant pikahcu is probably a very rare (less then 10 made or so?) japanese contest or tournament prize....probably more $$$ the university magickarp or prerelease jungle raichu

Does anyone know for sure if it is card, and not a poster? On my giant cards( they are about 2 feet tall) they are print on 1/4" thick foam poster board.

No. The giant Pikachu was for the Pokemon Mall Tour. You could go and take your picture if front of it. There are no official numbers for how many were made, although I know from the pictures I have seen that there are at least 2. Here's that picture:

Also, there were giant versions of the Japanese Trophy Pikachu cards. Here's a picture:

However, no one is sure yet if they are felt or card material.

The giant Pikachu was a base set reprint, so it is from a way earlier one than BW. Like very early 2000's

If you have a jumbo anything from the early times I am pretty sure it is worth more now. Does the Pikachu count toward the types of the Pikachu's or is this for normal cards only. I thought of this Pikachu because it would add to the Pikachu list if these count XD. I was trying to figure out if these counted or not XD.:)

To answer that, other questions need to be answered first.

1) Did the back side have the card back printing?
2) Is it a card if it does not have double sided printing?
3) Does it have to be rigid to be a card, or can a poster count?

So these don't count toward the number of Pikachu cards out there for those serial numbers? That was what I was trying to figure out and if they counted or not XD. Thanks man.:) Trying to get back on topic after the halabalu over the Jumbo card Pikachu.:)

The Giant Pikachu, for now, does not count towards the number of Base Set Pikachus. Why? Because it is not known if it card material or poster material (or even felt) or any of the things omahanime pointed out.

However, the normal Jumbo Pikachu does count towards the number of Base Set Pikachus.

This is not necessarily true. I, and I'm assuming most people, do not know what the Japanese CoroCoro comic Jumbos sold for when the first came out. I don't think most people know what the Base Set Pikachu Jumbo sold for when it first came out.
Regardless of those prices, most of these early Jumbos are still very popular and widespread and don't normally go for over $10, which I'm sure is close to what the went for when the were first released.
Please don't make assumptions because it can lead people into believing false ideas. Make sure you can back up what you say, especially when it comes to value. Thanks
