So, I got some good deck ideas, I am working on a Mewtwo deck right now, and wondering. Seeing you guys probably got into worlds tourament, city tourneys, ect. Where do I begin my journey after making my deck? I know that I should buy packs for what I need, ect. ect. But, where do I begin competitive playing?

Note: I got a comic store nearby that has pokemon card battles going on alot.

Definitely check out any local Leagues around in your area if you're just starting out. There's usually people there that can help you with pretty much anything you need.

All other tournaments are free, so it's really up to you which ones you want to go to. Prereleases are the only thing that's not free, but I don't consider that a real tournament as you cannot earn any Championship Points there (need those to go to Worlds). You also need a certain amount of Play Points (which you get from just attending tournaments, leagues, etc for free) for Nationals. Hope I helped.

dmaster out.

Dmaster pretty much summed it up. just don't buy packs to hope for certain cards, also booster drafts cost money just wanted to point that out

I know more than you think (Boosters drafts are 30$ and have complicated rules), and if referring to the note at bottom, there free battles.

You could test out decks on PlayTCG.me (use Bebessearch.com to build decks) and then, when you know what you want, buy singles or the correct packs/tins to make it.

I prefer the official TCGO. Sorry, checked site out though! I have a decent experience in deck making.

As far as testing goes, PlayTCG tends to be a better place to do it. It doesn't limit you to what you pull from packs and is a great way to try out new decks before buying the actual cards. It's often hard to tell if a deck is good on PTCGO because people tend to play more "fun" decks then serious metagame ones.

Other than that, the best way to get into the game is to just jump right in and start going to tournaments. Going to a League is also a good place to start, as it offers a less competitive environment and allows you to play many games without feeling the pressure of an actual tournament.

Whats a Meta-game?

And I play decks on TCGO as, hey, these may be decks I'll face in tourneys. Such as Darkrai/Hydreigon, ect,

The metagame is all of the decks that are most commonly played at the current time. For example, Darkrai decks, Landorus decks, and Keldeo/Blastoise are a big part of the current metagame because they are extremely popular.

Each area can have its own separate metagame also, depending on what decks are popular.

Leagues and Battle Roads are great starting points, since they are very basic and not as competitive as bigger events. Making friends who are more experienced is a great way to get help with building decks, and I'm sure most of the people on this site (myself included) would be happy to help with any questions or deck lists you need help with.

RE: How to begin actually playing the game (read thread)

I was a new player (still kind of am) right when fall battle roads started. What I would do if I were you is to go to league and find somebody that you like that understands the game and is good at it and try to learn from them. From there go to official tournaments and spend a lot of time testing, reading online articles etc... to try and get a good understanding of what a "meta game" is and what underlying things besides straight decklists make the difference between players that consistently do well, and those that don't. Subscribing to TheTopCut on youtube also has helped me a lot just getting to watch some of the best players firsthand to gain a bit of understanding on how your train of thought should be running during a game. And of course there are a ton of people on here that are willing to help you out. Best of Luck and don't get down on yourself if you don't do well at your first few tournaments (especially if your in masters). It can be a tough game to get into

Do you have a local league? When I first got interested I had to go to league to meet the people I now play with on a regular basis.

I do have local league tommorow, but got plans so another time. Anyways need a deck to use

RE: How to begin actually playing the game (read thread)

You don't necessarily need a deck to go to league. Next time you can make it check it out and just talk to some people. You might even be able to get a look into your areas meta if your lucky! Good luck getting into it though and feel free to pm me/post any other questions you have!
