How to find pre-releases

Good morning,
I am having a hard time finding out where pokemon plasma freeze pre-releases are going to be. Is there a list somewhere of sanctioned shops or do I just need to call all of my local game shops? I'm a bit new to this, thanks!

Also, Do they sell boxes at the pre-releases?

Thanks!
Zion

I thought that, I have to travel a few hours but I am considering it. I know the US is big, but seems to have loads of events and competitions there. Here in the UK, it's rather dead. No where near as many card shops either, I've found 2 cards shops in my life, both in the same city. One has closed, the other has a really eccentric man who seems weird and doesn't like the young.

Depending on your location, some places prefer you to pre-register before attending the pre-release due to limited space. So be sure to contact the league leader for information. The last thing you'd want is to go to the event only to find out there's no room left!

Also, most prerelease locations won't sell boxes at the event if you attend the prerelease that takes place before the official release. This is because, simply put, the set hasn't been released yet. Though, there are some that do; you could probably find out ahead of time. If you're attending a prerelease that's taking place after the set release, it depends on location, but if the event is at a place that sell cards (like a comic shop or the like), then they probably will sell boxes; again, you can find out by contacting the location ahead of time.

At my plasma storm pre-release(which was held a week before the set's release), the owner was already selling Boxes, boosters and pre-cons. It is, in the end, up to each store's owners

I find it interesting that some places sell boxes/packs during the pre-release time. Isn't that not allowed and could result in repercussions? After all, they're pretty much breaking the sell date if that's the word.

Well some places, you can't trade at the event even after, you can't watch others open packs and you can't bring anything with you. Some also don't allow you to record. It's up to the Host at the end of the day, there are rules to comply with but unless someone complains then , Nintendo USA or whoever distribute the boxes won't find out.
