Hydreigon / Yveltal EX

Hi everyone! PSA: this is my first post on this thread (expect more in the future). I have a good amount of experience in the card game and love to come up with many different deck ideas based on the current or future meta play style. Also, there will be many city championships coming up next month and I would like some feedback on my decks. So, here we go.

Pokémon: 16

  • 3 Deino (LT)
    2 Zweilous (LT)
    2 Hydreigon (PHF)
    1 Hydreigon (LT)
    2 Yveltal
    3 Yveltal EX
    2 Darkrai EX
    1 Malamar EX

Trainers / Supporters / Stadiums: 34

  • 3 Skyla
    4 Professor Sycamore
    4 N
    1 Colress
    2 Lysandre

    3 Ultra Ball
    2 Rare Candy
    3 Max Potion
    3 Muscle Band
    2 Startling Megaphone
    2 VS Seeker
    1 Escape Rope

    3 Shadow Circle

    1 Dowsing Machine
Energy: 10

  • 8 Darkness Energy
    2 Psychic Energy

Strategy / Main Idea:
For those of you who do not know what the new Hydreigon does from Phantom Forces it is a modified Dark Patch. Instead of attaching a basic Darkness Energy from your discard pile to your dark Benched Pokémon you attach a basic Darkness Energy from your discard pile to your Active (regardless of their type). So with that being said the strategy is simple. Set up with 2 to 3 Hydreigon on the Bench and hit hard with the main attacker (Yveltal EX). Malamar EX is there for my Energy attachments from the hand to put the Active to sleep. Baby Yveltal is there for Safeguards and extra acceleration.

Main Concerns:
I run no way of getting my Pokemon back from the discard (not sure if this is relevant but it's always a concern.

I have never been a big fan of the dark types in the card game but that new Hydreigon made me want to make this deck. In playtesting this deck does INCREDBLY well. There are not many match ups I am scared to go against and I like how the deck operates.

Things I will not consider in this deck:
Do not mention putting in a Jirachi EX, I have never liked it and will never consider it.
Virizion EX, yes verdant wind is an amazing ability but I do not want to make the space for that AND rainbow energies, I feel that will make the deck a little more clunky and with Aegislash EX I do not want to take my chances.

Any thoughts / comments / concerns will be greatly appreciated!! :D

Zeypher,

I play this deck too, very similar build, but I really recommend a silver bangle--it allows you to one shot 170hp EX pokemon--great for the finish! I been using rainbow energy and have not run against any Aegislash-EX yet...biggest concern is early game with a rainbow on your baby yveltal or yveltal-ex preventing an attack...I suppose after you have the hydregion out you can move the rainbow off the active?

Good Luck!

I play this deck too and absolutely love it! Keldo EX is a good addition because it's free switch & free status condition removal. I play each Hydra at 2. Do you ever have problems getting your LT one out?

I completely forgot about adding a silver bangle! On second thought I am going to take out a muscle band for a bangle. And I am still concerned about adding in the rainbows. Then again as long as the LT hydra is out I can dark trans them away. I will play around with both ideas because aegislash really is a niche card. And I have thought about keldeo in the deck, but am still not sure if I should add it. Yeah being able to rush in and retreat to get rid of status is great but the format (in my opinion) is slowly moving away from status conditions (meaning not as many decks are running the staple laser/bank combo anymore). if I was going to put keldeo in I would take a darkrai for it but in my opinion I would prefer the second darkrai in there. And about playing a 2/2 hydra stage 2 lineup isn't a bad idea. I do not suffer from getting it out (also because my main concern is getting out the other hydra out first depending on the situation) unless of course it is prized but that does not hinder the deck really. I tried to put my focus on the new hydreigon with this deck.

Thanks for all the input so far!

Interesting! In my area a lot of peeps are playing Laserbank. Gengar EX and Malamar EX are also seeing more play in my area so I felt the need to prepare for it. I must say that keeping Darkrai EX at 2 is a good idea. I played around with the numbers for a while in my testing and having only 1 Darkrai EX hurt me in a lot of situations. I run 4 Ultra Balls and it still took me till about turn 3-4 to get him out. Now i usually get him out by turn 2 no problem. Since you run just the 3 ultra ball, you might want to leave him at 2. How successful have you been with your Malamar EX? I was going to run it, but i have 3 techs already in Keldeo EX, Seismitoad EX and Mr. Mime so i felt i couldn't warrant the space. Lando EX is pretty popular in my area too, so the Mr. Mime is a must, but I've considered replacing the Toad for Malamar. Just haven't tested it yet and don't have one for myself. Also if you get the space and want a decent way to get your resources back, Lysander's Trump Card is a good 1 of. It's great in the late game and against Flareon/ night march (another popular deck in my area)

Glad you are getting the feedback you need! I love this deck so much! It's a fun deck and it can dominate if you play it right

I guess it really depends on the area. Gengar's natural pair is virbank and he doesn't see too much play in my area. If I see the need to make room for a keldeo for that problem then I can make an adjustment. Also, I do not really like seismiitoad. It's attack is great when you can stall your opponent, but the only time I ever use the attack is if I start with the toad. I prefer malamar because having your opponent roll for awake basically every turn is a little more annoying IMO. The only concern I have with lysandre's trump card is shuffling in all my darks back into the deck, but I guess if used right it can save me late game. I will definitely think about possible replacements for it. Maybe a colress? and this deck doesn't die as much as you think to garb. There are 2 megaphones and 2 lysandre's in my list (99% of garbodor users only have 2). As long as I can have my abilities for a turn, I can make it count. Or I can lysandre it out and get rid of it.

Yeah garb doesn't kill it because most players only run 2-2 garb with about 4-6 tools, so its easy to let them set up the garb and just either lysander it or megaphone everything.

I'll post my pokemon and energy since im pretty sure its against the rules to post a full list and I don't like sharing my full list's
17 Pokemon
3 Yveltal EX
2 Darkrai EX
1 Seismitoad EX
1 Keldeo EX
1 Mr. Mime (plasma freeze)
3 Deino (1 LT, 2 PLF)
2 Zwelious (1 LT, 1 PLF) 2 Rare Candy
4 Hyreigon (2 LT, 2 PHF)

10 Energy
