Medaforcer and I were looking at cards last night and we noticed this:
Look at the artist -- Tomoaki Imakuni. Does the name ring a bell? To the people who played the Pokemon TCG game for GBC or the people familiar with the old Japanese cards, I'd hope so. Here's a Wiki article for those who don't know about him.
He had a series of joke cards in Japan that were never released in America (probably because Wizards of the Coast felt we American players couldn't handle a joke set) such as this one:
The attacks, are all silly and probably would never be played in a real game; all his cards were like this. He was always listed as the illustrator of the joke cards -- "Imakuni?"
However, his full name is "Tomoaki Imakuni," which would make him the illustrator of the new Rising Rivals Hippowdon. Hippowdon isn't a joke card however, in fact, there's not even any reference to Imakuni's humour or jokes on the card... at all. The card isn't even mentioned on the Bulbapedia entry!
Has anyone seen any other cards illustrated by Imakuni? Is he actually secretly a good artist? Would you have liked to see the Imakuni cards released in America? Do you think there will be any more Imakuni joke cards, or has Imakuni moved to the status of official Pokemon card illustrator?
Do you like the character Imakuni? Do you even remember him?
Discuss.
