Is any one else having problems with CMT?

I've been testing Celebi/Mewto/Tornadus for the last few weeks and have a TON of issues playing it. I get that it's primarily a Donk style deck, but I can't seem to get the thing to work.

I often get really bad starts which equate to having all my Mewtwo (3) in hand to start, or all my Celebi (4), or just a single Tornadus. Energy is hard to reach, switches never come, I just don't get it... If you guys need, I'll post a list in a reply or in the Deck garage.

did you try pile shuffling?

usually donk style decks need a really good shuffle and de-clumping for you to get the right starting hand

you also shouldnt be pulling 3 of 1 card in your opening hand. if you are, then your simply not suffling properly

I've done pile shuffles as well as a TON of other, more "radical" shuffles - pretty much anything you can think of...

here is my list

4 Celibi
4 Tornadus
3 Mewtwo
11

4 Juniper
4 PONT
4 N
3 PokeGear
3 Catcher
4 Junk Arm
4 Dual Ball
3 Skyarrow
3 Switch
2 Eviolite
2 PlusPower
36

4 DCE
9 Grass
13

Your list has all the consistency it can get. I guess you're just having awful luck, since usually the deck is somewhat consistent. You could drop a Mewtwo and a Tornadus to cut down on non-Celebi starts and add another Switch and another Catcher/Pokegear.

Donking is so over rated. If your list is built around getting the donk, you won't win. You need to focus on being able to constantly get KOs and recovering/revenging after catching up. You'll stay strong early game with quick 80s, and you can win prize trades with 3 Mewtwo (I like a Super Rod over the third Mewtwo, just saying.) but that's pretty much it. There's no Shaymin EX for late game, no Gigas for mirror, no Terrakion for Eels, no Shaymin for a surprise Mewtwo...You shouldn't load it up with techs, but if you're having trouble with a certain deck, your answer is the techs, not donking.

In any case, you need to know how to play the deck in the first place. It's not like 6 corners, but it's not a pick up and play deck either.

I'd add in a Shaymin-EX and 1-2 more Grass Energy if you're having trouble hitting those. The list looks pretty good aside from the lack of Shaymin, although I dislike the standard CTM deck itself. You're probably just unlucky. The only other thing I'd suggest is not running any reverse foil cards. For example, if all of your energy are RH and the rest of your deck isn't, the energy tend to clump and you either draw too many or don't draw them at all. That's why it's best to avoid these cards completely.

I have been considering giving this thing a complete overhaul - I have to admit that it's mostly net decked, and really trainer heavy. As for revs, I dont have too many in there... I think I just have the two Tornadus in there and thats just because I dont have regular prints lol. But Im probably going to drop a lot by the time its done - most of my testing has been against Z-EXeels (Zekrom/Eels) and there is too little support too spread out...

Zekeels is a good deck and a lot run mew two so that could be a problem I guess. Maybe its partly the matchup?

I really wish i could say its the bad matchup but out of 26 tests I've only been able to net 3 wins. I should have been able to net more wins than that - with what I have been seeing is that it should have about 10 wins. Still not good but it would be a bit better

If you want deck help, use the Deck Garage in the future. Just post it there and link to it.

This could also go in the CMT discussion thread.

I will keep this open for now to keep the discussion going, but in the future, it belongs in the metagame deck corner.

Guess I locked it...

I think this is better in the Competitive Collective because CMT has a lot of problems and they shouldn't be discussed in the deck garage. That is for lists to be specifically edited, not changed a ton to help their matchups.

In the list you posted, you only ran 3 different Pokemon. In my list I run Smeargle, Celebi, Mewtwo, Tornadus, Shaymin, and Shaymin EX. It isn't really a donk deck, it is just meant for quick wins. I didn't read all the posts, but what specific problems are you having?

Pile shuffling can fix this issue, but yeah, RH cards are best to stay away from to prevent clumps of Energy in an opening hand (which can usually lead to a loss).

They'll still start to clump when you shuffle after searches. You can't pile shuffle after every search because it's too time-consuming. :/

I thought we were talking about opening hands. Pile shuffling can fix that. But yeah, listen to Celebi and avoid RH cards when building a deck (unless necessary).

It seriously makes a difference?
