Is Tyranitar too slow for the current format?

I love my Tyranitar Prime! I've only got one though, and so I pair it with a regular Tryanitar. I use Spiritombs to get him up there. I seem to do ok. I'm not the best player ever though and my deck does occasionally get creamed. Tyranitar Prime does not like Celebi Prime, that's for sure. Though the regular Tyranitar and the attack that knocks an energy off does the trick against Mr. Celebi Prime!

tyranitar prime cannot be stopped
it has power claw
it rips through mr. celebi prime

There is a guy at my local that runs a T-Tar deck.
He has had straight T-Tar, T-Tar / Umbreon and T-Tar / flygon

But when it was straight T-Tar, it was pretty normal for him to be swinging powerclaw turn 2, with megaton tail turn 3. It was a pretty fast deck (no starter either) Just a decent T/S/S line built around speed an consistency.

I play TTar without any Rare Candies and only two BTS and I do perfectly fine. I added a Garchomp C Lv. X 1-1 line and it's doing great. Makes the deck much more useful now that I can spread with TTar and snipe with Garchomp C Lv. X. Not to mention two different ways to donk (Sableye and Garchomp C).

It is slown down because of spiritombs however you can block spiritomb using spiritomb to evolve while you use search supporters like BEBE's SEARCH and Pokémon COLLECTORS to get and set up more than one Tyranitar, I recommend 3 BTS so you can evolve, draw, while spiritomb helps evolve slower but BTS should help. Eventually your TOMB has to get KO anyways so use it till 10 HP left and let them knock out so you can attack or if you like Donking, use wrap energy and / or use Darkness Grace to KO yourself. If KO ing yourself is worth it, make sure the pokemon you send up can take the blow ( While you set up, they probably did too but you have more set up than them) so you can earn the advantage. ( Twins is good if you play spiritombs cause they have to be KO eventually anyways)

I'm testing Exploud SV in my Tyranitar deck and it seems like it has potential especially for those Unfavorable Matchups against Donphan Prime and Machamp. Only bad thing is Dialga G Lv. X shutting off Erasing Sound with Time Crystal but then again it see's some play despite the Blaziken FB counter for Weakness.

Black & White should be able to help Tyranitar quite a bit next set, Madibuzz as a tech or the use of Gothitelle for Trainer Lock as I mentioned before. I do think Umbreon UD will help the deck more than Zoroark next set which has potential in the build already however it depends on the drastic rule changes that will come upon the game when the time comes.

I just recently came in 2nd place at a Sanctioned Tournament last Saturday with
UmbreTar (Tyranitar Prime/Umbreon). The Rare Candies really helped for the recovery I needed and I don't think the recent errata from B/W will hurt it that much either. Regice comes in handy especially in this format and Exploud is a decent tech actually.

I lucked out ironically cause nobody in my area was playing SP, LuxChomp, Gyarados however I did spot MewPerior, Machamp/Donphan, LostGar, and a few other builds. A Raichu/Magnezone Prime deck came in the top 4 along with my deck including a Flygon/Slowking deck and MewPerior, it was close. I got to say that Umbreon is doing me better than Zoroark next set, especially in my matchup against Flygon it was a lifesaver thanks to Moonlight Fang.

Here in the Netherlands, I remember there was a player topcutting in each states with t-tar

True, but Dennis' build does feature Sableye SF, as well as Nidoqueen. Just Tyranitar, Sableye, Queen, and some Uxie/Azelf are all that's in it.

Congrats Card Slinger J on your 2nd place!

Thanks, but really it was just luck. Had there had been people running Tier 1 decks like LuxChomp, DialgaChomp, Gyarados, SableLock/Donk, LostGar/VileGar, there'd be no chance whatsoever for me to make the top cut to 2nd especially against a broken deck like MewPerior which did end up taking 1st at the tournament I was in. Part of my success goes to Umbreon UD for helping me setup Tyranitar Prime in time against Flygon.

I was just disappointed that I never got to play against Donphan Prime/Machamp, would've loved to see If I'd been able to get that Exploud SV in time to cover my decks' weakness. Had I played at States I probably would of had a matchup of that likelihood but it was never to be unfortunately. Still surprised that LostGar didn't see that much play and only topped in just 2 State Championship locations.

Haha, did you just say Machamp was still in the format? Lolno. There's an occasional machamp prime I guess, but it's in no way an actual threat. I don't think it's that slow, and I agree with what Tyraniking said.

Heck, my promogon's not moving too slow even with the candy errata, and it's a speed deck. Maybe you're under the impression it may be too slow because of the way your specific build is working?

EDIT: Whoops, this has been resolved. I guess I was a little late.

The recent errata on Rare Candy has pretty much made Machamp less of a threat than it used to be mainly because of how it lost on being a check/counter against SP and Basic decks especially LuxChomp and SableDonk. My UmbreTar deck was slow without the Candies but got faster with them cause previously I relied too much on Spiritomb AR for Darkness Gracing out my Evolutions while locking my Opponent's Trainers.

The recent errata hurts it but not too much as it's more favorable post-rotation coming up. It has no chance of beating LuxChomp even with Regice LA as a tech for Regi Move cause they can just switch into a Crobat G or Luxray GL that has free retreat. Better yet If Spiritomb or Vileplume isn't out they can just Poke Turn despite any amount of damage they take from attacks.
