So fellow players, what is it that sometimes irks you guys while playing this game competitively, be it a playstyle, Pokemon, gimmick, or anything else about the game?

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

Two things:
Keldeo; ubsurdly broken pokemon that has no place in this metagame. Too fast, too much power, too much bulk, extremely good typing, and did I mention power? Keldeo is just too much for this metagame and it would be better and more enjoyable without this demon.

FREEZES; you don't know how much I hate getting random freezes that kill my momentum. :(

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

idk this little thing called 5th gen has been irking me for a good while now

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

Critical hits are at the top of my list. I'll be honest, they are the reason I've never attempted a stall team. In the words of Jimmy McMillan: "The critical hit rate is too damn high!"

Second is the Keldeo-Landorus-Tyranitar core. I'm amazed at how little thought is put into the teams thate revolve around this and how easy the strategy is to execute. This is the reason I hope Landorus or Keldeo is booted sometime. The degeneracy brought on over the past few months by this trio is sickening.

I think we all can agree that people who run baton pass teams need to burn in Davy Jones' Locker.

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

I hate people who rely on luck teams to win. Nobody wants to have their Pokemon flinched to death by Jirachi. When this is combined with Thunder Wave or another paralyzing move, the chance that you'll move is less than 1/3.

Another pet peeve of mine is losing when I outplayed the opponent, but lost due to hax.

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

When I ran paraflinch once and my opponent always attacked.

Sableye in UU is too annoying (not like it should be moved but it is very annoying sometimes).

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

Probably Milotic and too much auto-weather. For all of my friends, it's my Cloyster (except for my friend who borrowed mine at VGC and missed top 8 by only 1 place, who came to love my Cloyster as a result).

...And I have no idea what ITT stands for as nobody has ever told me.

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

ITT=Institute of Travel and Tourism?

I hate Amoonguss in VGC. Too bulky, too good on Trick Room, Rage Powder is dumb, and spore is freaking annoying if you know what I mean.

It's like

235.gif

Lv. 1
EV's/IV's= All 0
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
Nature: Brave/Quiet

Moves:
  • Spore
  • Trick Room
  • Endeavor
  • Dragon Rage

On a team starting with

488.gif

Lv. 50
EV's: 196 Def, yaddayadda
Item: Fire Gem
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Calm/Sassy

Moves:
  • Trick Room
  • Hidden Power [Fire]
  • Light Screen
  • Psychic
.

So very annoying.

People who use Ambipom in UU.

I also dislike teams relying on luck to win. If you go for Parahax with Jirachi or Nasty Plot Togekiss, cool. If you need one or two flinches to get that critical KO that breaks the opposing team down, that's fine. What bothers me is when they go for like 6 or 7 in a row when they either don't need to, or have a safer play.

Google is your friend. It's "In this thread."

Anyway, I've probably played less than ten 5th Gen competitive battles in my life so I'm probably not one to talk, but I just generally don't like the metagame. There have always been so many problems I've seen from constant bannings, to weather wars all the time, to Dream World Abilities and it just never really stops. It just makes the game overall very cumbersome to get into, play, and have fun.

But luck is a big one, even from the numerous 4th Gen competitive battles I played when I actually liked playing. Critical hits and hax were pretty high and I assume that not much has changed on that front.

dmaster out.

this

The story of why I quit battling. With regards to DPP, it would have to be trying to battle against stall (even though I am guilty of using it myself, as older battlers would attest to).

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

And how many different combinations there are in possibilities of Pokemon and memorizing what each move does. Abilities too.

So much Mind-boggling shtuff.

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

That's not really all that hard since there aren't actually all that many moves in competitive battling that are worthwhile and a lot of them are simple (high dmg high accuracy maybe a slight stat debuffer or status chance that the move isn't used for). The versatility is actually imo a good thing, it makes it more fun for me.

But yeah peeves are weather being so centralized, incredible power creep, and just Gen V in general.

^He just hates losing.

I also don't like it when people whine about luck / hax / hax teams. It's part of the game. It's often unfortunate, but games need some degree of luck.

Not starcraft, aka the best game invented.

Also, we shall see in the finals. We shall see.

Go and send unsheathed your team.

RE: ITT: Competive Battling Pet Peeves

when people ragequit just because a certain member of their team is down (ie KOing the opponents Tyranitar when all their team utilizes sand or something)
